Last night though, we were a bit disappointed with service and food. After we were seated and ordered our drinks and appetizers, the waitress let us know that a plentiful of menu items were out of stock. (Pan seared chicken breast, NY steak, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pork chop, branzino) Also, my boyfriend wanted Mezcal in his espresso martini instead of vodka and it was a $7 up charge which she failed to mention, (didn't realize until the bill had came) had we have known it was that price we would've opted for the normal concoction. Coming from someone who works in the restraunt industry as a general manager, It would've been greatly appreciated to have known nearly all of the entree items were out prior to being seated or at most ordering anything. We didn't want to just up and leave after we had already been seated and ordered appetizers/drinks. As we were ordering our limited entrees, we had placed an side of the mac and cheese and after she had rang it she had to come back to let us know they just ran out of that as well. It's disappointing because this was our first date night out after a few months and we really had to save up and wanted to make this special and didn't feel as if we got our moneys worth out of this one...everything took a left turn.

We sat at a table by the front window facing the main drag. The area definitely has an old town feel with many restaurants and shops up and down the street. There is also a park right across the street. There is plenty of parking around the corner on the street and in a nearby lot. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. We had one more round of drinks and I had the Billionaire cocktail (Old Forrester 100 proof bourbon, lemon, house made grenadine, absinthe, $16). This was excellent. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. They have a very good sized cocktail and food menu, as well as many beers on tap. They also have happy hour specials. We would definitely return if we were in the area again.

We started with drinks and I honestly don't remember what everyone had. The Mai Tai was a little lackluster, though, but the other cocktails were decent. For food, we started with the oysters, potatoes croquettes and agnolotti. The oysters were fine, can't complain about oysters, but they really didn't stand out necessarily. The croquettes were tasty, nice and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with smoked bacon and cheddar cheese. And the agnolotti came topped with a truffle foam and filled with ricotta cheese. Also a nice bite! For entrees we tried the pork chop, rigatoni, shrimp penne and the bucatini spaghetti. The shrimp penne has a good amount of shrimp in it, which is always nice, but there seemed to be a missing flavor profile to make the dish pop. The same with the rigatoni with basil pesto, it just tasted like something was missing to elevate it into a great dish. The rigatoni did have that nice pesto green color which stands out though. The bucatini was a little better with the spiciness from the vodka sauce giving it a little punch, but the stand out was the boneless pork chop with broccoli and cheddar covered potato gnocchi. Pork chop was cooked perfectly, great flavor on the pork and the gnocchi hit as well. Overall, Italian spot in Pasadena seeing up didn't nice looking dishes. The agnolotti, croquettes and pork chop were definitely stars of the meal, while the pasta dishes didn't hit like we all hoped they would. I'd stick with the proteins and maybe skip the pastas.

Cozy dining room.

We had an amazing time at FrontRunner Restaurant in Arcadia. From the moment we were seated, the service was top notch, friendly, attentive, and really knowledgeable. We kicked things off with the Mimosa Flight, which was a fun and flavorful start. The standout, though, was the Blackberry Whiskey Sour, perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and with a smooth kick. Shoutout to our waiter who recommended it, it's a must-try! We also tried the Old Fashioned, which was expertly crafted and bold without being overpowering. For food, we ordered the Classic Caesar Salad, which came with Peruvian peppers, a first for us! They added a mild heat and a slightly sweet, fruity kick that took the salad to a whole new level. Seriously, I'd eat those peppers by the handful if I could. The California Classic All-Beef Burger, cooked medium well, was absolute perfection, juicy, flavorful, and served on a toasted bun with all the right toppings. Definitely hits the spot if you're craving a great burger. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, and you may need to pay for seating depending on the event schedule but honestly, the food, drinks, and overall experience make it worth it. Great place for a special occasion or just treating yourself right. We'll definitely be back! read more

Our visit to The FrontRunner at Santa Anita Park was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The service was absolutely terrible, and the food was just as bad. Our waiter only stopped by once--to tell us the kitchen was closing soon--and ignored us the rest of the time, even as we tried to call him over multiple times. The food itself was disappointing across the board, but the dessert was truly awful. The bread pudding tasted like rubber tires, completely inedible. To make matters worse, our coffee arrived 30 minutes after the dessert, ice-cold. When we finally mentioned how poor the experience was, the manager showed no concern whatsoever. There was no apology, no attempt to make things right--just complete indifference. For a restaurant located in such a beautiful venue, this level of service and food quality is unacceptable. We expected a nice meal overlooking the track but instead left frustrated and unsatisfied. read more

Wow! What an amazing experience!!! I'm not going to rave about the quality of food or the speed of service. Both are pretty good but this is an experience, not a restaurant. Plan to come in for the early races and place your bets, and then get comfortable and have a leisurely meal and while you enjoy your day at the races. My server was very polite and informed me that all guest order at the same time so please be patient. They were probably 6-700 diners in the room so I could understand, and we were enjoying the races and view so we didn't even notice the wait for our food. I am definitely going to plan a party with friends and host them in front runner restaurant for my next birthday or celebration. Great place for big groups/families to spend the day. We ordered fish and chips full order (2 pieces) with mushy peas. You can probably just order 1 piece and it's plenty. The fish was nice and flakey, but was not seasoned so needed a dosing of salt and pepper. The mushy peas has a knob of butter which is not how the Brits serve it. Then we tasted the peas and they were regular peas mashed up. That's not what mushy peas are. They are a marrow pea. (For Americans I can only give this example: It's like taking potato chips and mashing them up and pan frying them to serve as hash browns.) Plate came with steak fries. The Cornish pasty was a fair effort, although the pastry dough wasn't quite right. The chicken curry filling sounded promising but it was a curry sauce with chucks of chicken. The British curry would be stewed so the chicken was soft and stringy. I'm not sure if the chicken curry on the menu is the same chunky chicken. Plate came with thinner home style fries. Any way, great vibe here for a local pub. The food can't match a basic Wetherspoons pub in the UK.
