This place is like a mini-Whole Foods mixed with some touristy stuff mixed in. Mind you, this is touristy stuff that is actually thoughtful and that locals would want to buy! The 5-stars is mainly for being open year-round. Seward is a ghost town in the winter. It feels like 80% of business are closed, making it challenging and frustrating for Alaska residents to visit in the off-season. The main/only negative is that the prices are high, really high. Also, the anti-science rhetoric around GMO foods is a huge turnoff. We need more science in our food supply chain, not less. Fear mongering and food shaming (see also: "clean eating") by people of great privilege is not helpful to improving the outcomes of those that are less fortunate. GMO fresh veggies are about 1000X as healthy as non-GMO, organic, GF cookies. Not everyone can afford massively expensive organic/non-GMO/GF/etc products. And eating those is not necessary for good health for the vast majority of people. read more

Great natural grocery and wellness shop. Everything is pretty much full sized here - so it's more for local grocery shopping. So much healthy goodness! A mini Whole Foods: pantry, frozen, beauty and even a cafe/smoothie shop in the back! We stopped in to do some browsing, ended up with some healing hand lotion, sulfate free dried organic cranberries and some cute Darn Tough socks for gifts. read more

Such an awesome place. I supposed a tourist could enjoy this place, but I don't think it's really a gift shop, per say. It reminded Natural Pantry in Anchorage, but on a small scale. Coffee shop and teas. The service was helpful and kind. There were several new items to me. Mind you, I live in Alaska where the inventory seems to be smaller and the choices, more limited. Here are a few things I found, and bought because they sounded tasty. - - Kombuchas by GTs I have never seen before. I chose the Carrot Turmeric and I was very happy. - - A Kombucha inspired hot sauce that is really good. It is the perfect blend of hot and flavorful. I would have liked to spend more time in the yoga section. The book about breathing techniques was particularly interesting to me. I wish they would open one of these in Palmer. I would pay the higher prices if it meant avoiding the traffic of Anchorage! read more

Favorite place in Seward. All my favorite natural / healthy products and so much more. I was so impressed. If I lived in Seward, I would definitely be a regular at this store; it reminds me of the health food stores I shopped at in the early late 80's/early 90's before health food chains were common across the country. They have a very nice assortment of food items (including veggie/vegan/gluten), spices, vitamins, beauty items, candles and some questionable new-age items (a few that irked me, but I digress...), and a coffee/smoothie bar. In general I have to give a lot of credit to Frontier Trading Post- they've been in Seward a long time and continue to be successful in a very small town. They know their market. read more

So happy to have this place in downtown Seward! It really is like a mini Whole Foods and a godsend for tourists and summer locals with no car (like me) when it's hard to get out to Safeway. Plus with a nicer selection of health foods, vegan/vegetarian options, vitamins, and bulk spices. They also have beauty products and kitchen necessities and some fun books and gift items. Things you definitely can't find anywhere else in town. Yes it is more expensive, but also everything is expensive out here, so with that in mind it is great and so so convenient. Hidden gem! They have gluten free baked goods near the register that are excellent (including gluten free donuts!). Almost every single restaurant in Seward did not have gluten free options and/or was closed. They had a large frozen gluten free section and a microwave, etc. for use as well. We were in situations where we were genuinely desperate for food and this place saved us. The store was also consistently open (a rarity in Seward!). I would highly recommend checking this place out if you need food, specifically gluten free food. read more

Good selection but the price on the tag for the birch syrup was $25.95. The itemized receipt showed I had been charged $26.95. I showed the cashier the discrepancy, and she said she couldn't do anything because she wasn't the owner. In addition to fraudulent pricing, poor customer service. Will not be returning. read more

Went here for coffee when we were visiting Seward for the day. The prices they have posted are if you bring your own cup so they charged us fifty cents more. We asked for room to add cream and she handed us the carton of creamer which had an expiration date of over a week old. When we mentioned this expecting to be given a new container she informed us we SHOULD be fine using that one as they open them frequently. (So they usually use expired products for their customers??) We didn't add cream and will not be returning for coffee. The store looked fine, but after the poor customer service in their coffee shop, we did not shop. read more

Not a lot of places to buy groceries if you're staying in a hotel in downtown Seward. The Frontier Trading Post opens early and offers a good selection of organic foods including sandwiches, snacks, and drinks. We opted not to buy the meal package on our Kenai Fjord tour as it seemed overpriced for a paper plate buffet. Got everything we needed at the Frontier Trading Post. read more

Great place for healthy food in Homer, pretty much the only place I was able to find!

We called ahead and ordered box lunches for a group of 8 before a hike. The staff were super accommodating and friendly, the lunches were ready for pickup on time (at 8:00 am), and the food was delicious! Even the vegetarians had a great sandwich option, and everyone was very thankful for the wonderful lunch at the top of the trail. Highly recommend Frontier Trading Post. read more
