I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with Dr. James Song at Frontier Dermatology was serious enough that I feel obligated to share it so other patients can make informed decisions. My husband underwent an outpatient cyst removal procedure with Dr. Song on May 19, 2026. We were told the procedure went as planned and were given standard aftercare instructions, including avoiding showers and exercise for 24 hours and applying Vaseline afterward. The following day, less than 24 hours after the procedure, my husband began bleeding heavily through layers of gauze, bandages, and eventually his clothing. We contacted Frontier Dermatology and were instructed to have him lie down and apply pressure. We followed those instructions exactly, but the bleeding continued and worsened. When we called the after-hours physician, we repeatedly sought guidance about whether we should go to the ER. Despite explaining the situation in detail, we were unable to get a clear answer. We were told we would "probably end up at the ER" but were also told that no one could definitively recommend that course of action without seeing him. We first went to urgent care, where the physician was uncomfortable treating the wounds because of their depth and complexity. After attempts to stop the bleeding failed, we were sent directly to the emergency room. At the ER, the physician treated the wounds with silver nitrate to stop the bleeding after hours of unsuccessful attempts elsewhere. We did not return home until approximately 1:00 a.m. The next day, I filed a formal complaint with Frontier Dermatology regarding both the procedure and the lack of adequate after-hours support. During that conversation, I learned my husband had no follow-up appointment scheduled for two months. Shortly afterward, Dr. Song personally called my husband and defended the treatment decisions that had been made. Because we were concerned by everything that had happened, my husband sought a second opinion from another dermatologist. That dermatologist informed him that the wounds were infected and required antibiotics and additional treatment. We were also told that corrective care would now be necessary to reduce the likelihood of significant scarring. During follow-up communication, we learned that no pathology report had been performed on the tissue removed during the procedure. What should have been a routine outpatient procedure resulted in severe bleeding, an urgent care visit, an ER visit, an infection, additional medical treatment, missed time, stress, and ongoing concerns about long-term scarring. We understand that complications can happen in medicine. What troubled us most was the combination of the outcome itself, the difficulty obtaining clear guidance when things went wrong, and the need to seek care elsewhere to address the resulting complications. I hope sharing our experience helps other patients ask questions, seek second opinions when necessary, and make informed decisions about their care. read more

Dr. Vena Melendez was extremely rude and impatient with me for my appointment yesterday for a spot of concern. She visually diagnosed me with a condition that contradicts what 4 other doctors diagnosed me with previously. That is fine, but when I started to ask more questions about this new condition just to educate myself about it, she stopped me and basically said "Well I'm a Derm, so don't trust any other doctors you've visited. Go see another Derm since you don't trust me. I'm done here." And she proceeded to walk out and shut the door on me. I believe her diagnosis is true, but considering I'm a solo parent to a newborn baby and worried about getting the wrong or harmful medications that may affect my baby and prolong this condition, you can imagine I want to ask more clarifying questions. Unfortunately, I got the rude Dermatologist here. And she wouldn't put aside her ego to help a young new mother get clarity on a scary situation. read more

I was so excited to go see someone about my wrinkles and how to age slowly lol I told the lady on the phone when I made the appointment what I was going for and she said yes they do that. Then when I got to my appointment I told the lady check me in do they do wrinkles and age spots She said yes! But when I saw the doctor he said no I have to go to the Bothell location Wow!!! Why did I waste my time to hear just use sunscreen and go to the other location I was so annoyed I tried to call two numbers and emailed them and NOBODY has contacted me I don't want a bill for an appointment that said to go to another location mostly when I asked two people if they did this at Everett read more

DON'T GO TO NORTH SOUND DERMATOLOGY Came in for concern on my neck. Doctor Song, Eingun James MD saw me for 10 minutes AT THE MOST. Looked at it and said it was a cyst, nothing to be concerned about. Bill was $285! Wtf. Billing code 99203 btw. Before I came in I did my due diligence and called around to find out what the price would be for a simple visit. I was told by North Sound a much lower amount - of course, followed by a statement that they won't actually know until the visit is done and billing codes are set. The typical line you hear all the time for when you get the actual bill. Called the billing department and was told there is nothing that can be done about it and that my insurance was covering a portion of it. Here's the thing, these sorts of prices make ALL of our insurance premiums go up so don't say it like it's a positive. read more

Scheduled an appointment at the Colby Ave location in Everett. Didn't seem much of a welcome for a client. I completed all the info and uploaded my ID w/insurance card ahead of time. Paid my $40 copay and was given a health history clipboard to fill out. (I was 15 minutes early). As I was filling it out, another lady stopped me before completing, asked my name and had me go into the room. I expressed my concern regarding my dry/redness of the scalp, dry hands, pitted nails, and red spots appearing on my skin. She jots down what I've said and moments later, the doctor came in. I pretty much repeated the same thing to him and showed him my dry hands, nails, and scalp. Next, I explained what treatments have I tried. Which is pretty much the special shampoo keratin & a lotion to apply to my scalp. I showed my red spot on my ankle and mentioned that the red spots sometimes who up elsewhere like my elbow or knees, but was told it's just "dry skin". My mom has psoriasis and I suspect I have the beginning stages of it. The doctor pretty much just said "I'll order you the same shampoo and lotion again and give you a few refills. See you in 2 months. Then we'll check it out again.". My appointment was then made and that was it. I finished my health history sheet and turned it in to the front desk. Not even a "So hey, we sent your prescription in to the pharmacy of your choice. It should be ready in a few hours". In all, I will be calling in to cancel my appointment and seek another specialist area that will possibly show more "willingness" or care. Felt like I only paid copay and they wanted to rush me to get it over with. Who knows how much they got for my insurance for that 20-25 minute appointment. read more

NSD screwed up my billing and then sold the company to Frontier. I paid 220 dollars out of pocket (they said would be my total with insurance) for skin tag removal and skin cancer screening. They billed my insurance as well. I get a billing statement and they recorded my payments incorrectly. I asked for a bill reflecting the payments but they didn't send one. I have the copies of 2 checks I wrote to them so they should both be listed but were not listed. Now apparently Frontier sold the company to Reichel Dermatology group and they sent to collections. read more

Today I took my 15yr old son to see Dr Song at the Everett location. Immediately I knew upon meeting him that we would like him a lot. He didn't leave us waiting and was very welcoming when shaking our hands. He took a look at the issue (mild acne) and assured my son that he was going to help him get rid of it before it became a real problem. Really disappointed in my experience with this facility. After my referral finally being received. Took 3-4 tries of me having to have the referral faxed over. (Should have been a huge red flag) Imagine having to ask your doctor to resend a referral 4 times, embarrassing. Finally, we got past that and they had the referral. I was advised it would take one week. I called a total of five - seven times in all between them actually receiving the referral and waiting on approval. Every time I was told this was normal procedure and the referral simply had to be approved and I could then make an appointment. I stressed the fact that I was suffering and in pain and specifically asked if I should line up a back up doctor in the case that the referral did not go through. I was reassured that no, this was normal and all I had to do was wait. One week later, still no approval. Ten days later, still no approval but further reassurance it should be in soon. I reiterated I was in a bad physical position and that I was as very concerned with a worsening condition. Finally, 13 days (one day short of two weeks later) I call and it was finally indicated to me that maybe it would be a good idea to have back up. Really? One hour later, the denied referral request comes in. With no indication prior to this that would be a possibility, after specifically asking if it was possibility of being denied. Every single one lf the phone calls I had to tell them what insurance I had. No notes on my referral or file, ever? None of this makes sense. When I reiterated every time I was in a bad condition and really needed help, how could not a single person until the very last day suggest that I may not be approved, even when I specifically asked this? I have never been through a referral process before and relied on a professional facility to walk me through it, especially when I reiterated the physical condition I was in. Instead, they wasted my time, were inconsiderate of my condition and because they weren't giving me the full story delayed healing my physical condition by WEEKS. I can not even imagine putting my physical and health in the hands of people who care that little about their customers. I don't know if it is lack of training, or just lack of care, but wow, I'm incredibly disappointed and hope this message reaches someone that can modify the protocol in handling of patients especially when they reiterate suffering. read more

I came to have 4 moles removed in March 2020. My other dermatologist doesn't charge and this one charges $100 per mole. I've had 4 removed from other dermatologist with ZERO scarring. This one left me with 3 big scars and one that is still on my stomach (after 5 months). He walked in the room, shot at it with a freezing gun without saying a word to me then nothing ever happened. These people are a rip off. Made an appointment for a skin check. Was told by both nurse and Dr Park that they screwed up and only had me down for a cold sore Rx refill, no skin check. ( who would schedule an appointment just to get a Rx refill? Really?) Recieved a bill for $230 dollars, for which they did absolutely nothing. I can get this prescription from my primary care physician via MyChart. Don't waste your time with this provider. 12/21/2021 update: Received a call back from North Sound Dermatologys' third party billing service after my review above..... What a waste of my time. They informed me that they are unwilling to do anything about my concern. It is their position that the charge was appropriate for a "standard office visit". So if you are someone who wants to pay $230 to do nothing but "visit" for 1-2 minutes with a skin doctor, then these folks are for you. I prefer to have the service that I scheduled, actually performed - that I would willingly pay for. As stated previously, don't waste your time with this provider. I called to make an appointment for my husband due to a suspect spot on his scalp. I waited for more than 5 minutes to even get to a person which was reasonable in my opinion. When I was waiting I placed my phone on speaker so I could continue to work while I waited. When the lady picked up I switched it back over. Apparently, this caused a discrepancy in audio quality so I ended up having the whole conversation on speakerphone. She asked me about insurance and told me there are only 2 providers and neglected to listen to my explanation about it being a carrier from out of state (they did accept the insurance but I was put off by her lack of caring or the ability to listen). After we get this straightened out she proceeds to give me a long winded financial policy so I ask "so you put a hold on my card? That's fine" and she stops and goes "CAN I FINISH WHAT I WAS SAYING?" So I let her finish... again, put off by her lack of empathy and manners. And last but not least when she asks what my husband is coming in for I tell her "there's a suspect spot on his head and he's had several removed in the past due to problems and I would prefer it be evaluated by a professional" she stops me and in a very condescending tone asks me "Well, have you even looked at it to know what it looks like?" At this point, I had had enough. Thankfully upon walking downstairs to re-inspect my husbands head (because I have nothing better to do than remember what the spot on his, or anyone's head for that matter, looks like), I was pleased to discover it was no longer there. I told the rude woman on the phone that I will call back and make an appointment if we should encounter future problems - she hung up on me without allowing me to finish. I will seek another referral to an alternate dermatology clinic in the future. The curtness of the staff on the phone leads me to believe that an office visit would have me in tears. read more

I am 39 years old, and had a red spot about 5mm in diameter on my lip for the last 19 years (cut my lip and it healed with a small 'pool' that never went away). My dentist had recommended an appointment with an oral surgeon which would have cost me probably $1000+. After a full body scan at North Sound Dermatologists, they referred me to their in house LMA, Elizabeth Hagen. She really made me feel comfortable with the idea of doing an IPL on this. After one treatment, $110, it seems to be already 80% better. I may have to go back for one more treatment (TBD) but really happy with the diagnosis and selected treatment by Elizabeth Hagen. Likely because she is a nurse with significant training and knowledge of anatomy, she takes her time to understand the best approach and communicates very clearly so that the patient is completely at ease and confident. I was more relaxed around her and her techniques than I have ever been around someone with a needle. She is meticulous and caused no pain, bruising, or anything but beauty. I was explained in detail what was going on with my procedure, the nurse/MA was extremely helpful, nice and kind. Dr. Baugher was also kind, informative and attentive to my questions and comfort. I am new to North Sound Dermatology this year because my insurance coverage changed. I went in for my annual skin check. I found all aspects of the visit very professional and friendly, from the front office, to the medical staff (Tessa) to Doctor Jeyamohan. They put me at ease and explained the biopsy procedure that I needed very thoroughly. Luckily my biopsy came back negative :). I have an odd red bump on my nose and I immediately called and made an appointment and not only did they get me in the same week since I was extremely concerned, but I literally had a two minute wait from the time I arrived. I didn't even have time to finish my paper work. I assumed once they put me in a room, I'd have a little wait as I usually do at any other doctors, but Dr. Song came in immediately and to top it off, it turns out the red bump on my nose was angioma and is harmless.
