I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with Dr. James Song at Frontier Dermatology was serious enough that I feel obligated to share it so other patients can make informed decisions. My husband underwent an outpatient cyst removal procedure with Dr. Song on May 19, 2026. We were told the procedure went as planned and were given standard aftercare instructions, including avoiding showers and exercise for 24 hours and applying Vaseline afterward. The following day, less than 24 hours after the procedure, my husband began bleeding heavily through layers of gauze, bandages, and eventually his clothing. We contacted Frontier Dermatology and were instructed to have him lie down and apply pressure. We followed those instructions exactly, but the bleeding continued and worsened. When we called the after-hours physician, we repeatedly sought guidance about whether we should go to the ER. Despite explaining the situation in detail, we were unable to get a clear answer. We were told we would "probably end up at the ER" but were also told that no one could definitively recommend that course of action without seeing him. We first went to urgent care, where the physician was uncomfortable treating the wounds because of their depth and complexity. After attempts to stop the bleeding failed, we were sent directly to the emergency room. At the ER, the physician treated the wounds with silver nitrate to stop the bleeding after hours of unsuccessful attempts elsewhere. We did not return home until approximately 1:00 a.m. The next day, I filed a formal complaint with Frontier Dermatology regarding both the procedure and the lack of adequate after-hours support. During that conversation, I learned my husband had no follow-up appointment scheduled for two months. Shortly afterward, Dr. Song personally called my husband and defended the treatment decisions that had been made. Because we were concerned by everything that had happened, my husband sought a second opinion from another dermatologist. That dermatologist informed him that the wounds were infected and required antibiotics and additional treatment. We were also told that corrective care would now be necessary to reduce the likelihood of significant scarring. During follow-up communication, we learned that no pathology report had been performed on the tissue removed during the procedure. What should have been a routine outpatient procedure resulted in severe bleeding, an urgent care visit, an ER visit, an infection, additional medical treatment, missed time, stress, and ongoing concerns about long-term scarring. We understand that complications can happen in medicine. What troubled us most was the combination of the outcome itself, the difficulty obtaining clear guidance when things went wrong, and the need to seek care elsewhere to address the resulting complications. I hope sharing our experience helps other patients ask questions, seek second opinions when necessary, and make informed decisions about their care. read more

I visited Frontier Dermatology for a routine skin check appointment a few weeks ago in August. I saw Dr. Song. During my appointment, I commented on a wart on my right index finger. Dr. Song offered to take care of it with cryotherapy (application of liquid nitrogen). The entire "treatment" took less than a minute, and there was no discussion about costs. My medical notes from the appointment indicate that the wart was treated. In fact, the coding for this treatment on my billing statement reads "17110 - DESTRUCT B9 LESION 1-14". However, after several weeks and pain in the treated area, the wart remains intact. It was not "destructed". In fact, minus the pain, it's as if no treatment was ever performed. This less-than-one-minute procedure cost me $199.64 after insurance applied. Shocking! I called Frontier's office and spoke with Roxy about this charge. Roxy then connected me with Beatrice in the billing department. Beatrice shared that neither a refund nor a follow-up appointment to re-treat the wart with no additional charge would be possible. This is a highly distressing outcome. I felt compelled to post this review to warn others to consider other dermatologists in the area instead of Frontier. It's worrisome that this provider not only charged a significant amount of money for a procedure that didn't work, but also provided no extra grace for my situation when I shared the details of what happened. Apparently, it's all about the money for them. I'll be going elsewhere for future dermatology appointments, and I'd encourage others who read this review to consider doing the same. read more

I was scheduled for a full skin exam at the Mill Creek location. I had not seen a dermatologist in years, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Based on reviews, I thought it would be a positive experience. While I did get the information I needed for my main concerns, the appointment felt very rushed. The provider mentioned multiple times that she "did not have time" to go in depth, which was disappointing after waiting months for the visit. I appreciated her honesty, but it was frustrating to be told there wasn't time during the actual appointment. I also completed all of the requested new patient paperwork beforehand, only to be told that they don't have time to review it, which felt unnecessary. The front desk staff was kind, and check-in was smooth. The provider was knowledgeable, but the recurring theme of "not enough time" left me feeling like I couldn't ask additional questions and I walked away a bit frustrated. If you go, I recommend making sure you get your questions answered in real time so you don't leave feeling the same way. read more

I was charged $414 for a 2-minute visit to have one skin tag removed. Complete rip Off! I have a family of 5 that goes to this company and we will now be looking for a new provider as they were unwilling to work with me. Probably care less about loosing 5 patients as they make so much money by ripping people off. read more

I used to go here years ago. Had an unknown bump on back of the head that I could not see, so decided to get back in the books as a current patient. Waste of time and money. Dr said go home and put some cortisone cream on an infected hair follicle. I said if infected, can you remove the infection and clean since I cannot see the back of my head. NOPE. I decided to ask a PA friend to look at, embarrassing yes, but very upset with the treatment or lack there of. Huge blackhead, yuck yuck, she removed and cleaned with soap and astringent. Gone a day later. I will find a new dermatologist since if this is what you get for something simple, no way I want help with other treatments. read more

The Mill Creek clinic has an alarming lack of follow-up with patients. I had mohs surgery on my face on 6/26/25. I was told someone would follow-up with me a week later and would want to see a pic of the scar. They didn't follow-up, so I did after 1.5 weeks. I was told to submit a picture. I did, but no follow-up. So, I called on 7/11/25 and was told someone would get back to me. They didn't. So, I have no idea if it is healing as expected nor do I know if I can resume lifting over 10 lbs. The post-op instructions give no guidance on what to do after the initial 1-2 weeks. Their lack of follow-up now has me questioning their competency. Was the diagnosis legit? Did the surgery get all the cancer? Can I trust what they tell me? read more

I visited Dr. Katrina Bassett at Frontier Dermatology (also known as North Sound Dermatology) for lipoma removals and had a very concerning experience that ultimately led me to stop the procedure for my own safety. There was excessive and unnecessary emphasis on risks from Dr. Bassett, which further contributed to a lack of confidence in the her ability to safely perform the removal. When the she began administering lidocaine to my arm, I experienced a sudden electric shock sensation radiating into my hand, consistent with near contact with a nerve. This was alarming, and I immediately asked the her to stop the procedure to protect my health. Prior to and at that point, the provider appeared visibly shaky and concerned. Due to the uncertainty, lack of confidence, and the nerve-related incident, I decided not to proceed. Despite no procedure being completed and the appointment ending due to legitimate safety concerns, my insurance and myself are now being billed for this service. This charge is not fair or justified given the circumstances and the standard of care provided. I attempted to resolve the billing issue directly with their billing department and was told that they will not be waiving even after recapping my poor experience and safety concerns. I would highly recommend avoiding Frontier Dermatology for your dermatology needs. read more

The doctor didn't talk to me, he ask me why I was there, and I showed him the spots I was concerned about, as I went along he just shook his head no. I felt he was suspicious of me and he acted like I was wasting his time. I had gone there previously about 1.5 years before and saw a different doctor who basically acted the same, so, whether or not it's my imagination or if my intuition is right, I had a strong feeling that they treated me this way because I'm a veteran, and the VA pays with a discount. I unfortunately need to give a one star review. The front desk staff was not very helpful in setting some appointments for me. I was in there for a family member and thought since I was there I might as well make an appointment for myself, I have never been to a dermatologist before. I started working with one front desk person and said I was interested in a "Mole check" and also for anti aging and skin care. She said this location did both but I could only be seen for one thing at a time. I indicated that I would like to make appointments for both things then. We set up the first appointment for the "mole check". I had to step away from the desk and when I returned there was another front desk person that helped me with the 2nd appointment for anti aging / skin care with another front desk person. At 51 I wanted to see someone to get started on anti aging and skin care. I have never been to a dermatologist before I didn't really know what to ask for. I asked if I could make an appointment for anti aging and skin care. I was asked "what do you want to be seen for"? I indicated I wasn't sure but repeated the anti aging and skin care, thinking that they could give me guidance on what that might be. She said "we need to put something down for you that you want to be seen for". I said "retinol, wrinkles?" She was dismissive and said "they can help you with that on the mole check appointment", although the other person had indicated I could only be seen for one thing at a time. I just left still unsure if I can be helped in that appointment for both things, confused about the being seen for only 1 thing per appointment rule. On another note - I did pop into the North Sound Aesthetics as well to ask about visiting this side of the business. Again, having no idea what I really "need" never having had anything done before. I asked if I could have a consultation, the woman at the front desk called someone over, they took one look at me and was told I should see "an injector" and to put $100 down to use as consultation fee and they would apply it towards injections. I didn't ask for injections! I am just getting started. It is all so overwhelming and I am not in this realm. I have no idea what to ask for and was hoping for some polite guidance and maybe a consultation or something. I don't know that I even want injections and I certainly don't want to commit $100 to something I am unsure of. I double checked on their website after this experience and just as an FYI there are over 20 options for things you can have done in the drop down menu under "Medical Spa". Each category from there has several additional sub categories. IPL Photofacial, Liquid facelift, Chemical Peel? Am I supposed to know what these all are and say "Hey I need a microneedling appointment" even though I have no idea what that is? That said - I recommend going here if you are well versed in medical spa stuff and already know what you want. It seems that you are basically going in and saying I want "fill in the blank" because if you are unsure they make you feel like s**t. If you have no idea! I guess just live with your wrinkles or go somewhere that is kinder and offers more guidance. I am still looking for this place, I will probably live with my wrinkles or buy retinol online. I had skin cancer surgey by Dr Schmidt. He explained the procedure very well before the surgery. The day of the surgery I asked him about several aspects and he explained them to me which allayed my worries. The next day, some of the bandages were coming loose because the tape would not adhere to my hair. I called Frontier Dermatology and explained my problem I got an immediate appointment, was attended to after a 2 minute wait. I have seen Dr. Malakouti for years. I have seen him for chemical peels, acne skin treatment and Dysport (which is like botox, but a different brand) over the years. He even did minor surgery on me to remove a cyst. So lets just say, I thought I had a good relationship with this guy. I had it on my chart that Botox does not work on me, and with his recommendation I started to get Dysport back in 2020 with him, which worked great. (I went to him years before these injections for acne treatments.) They always verify what I came in for, the assistant would say Botox? I would say the other brand, she would say Dysport? I would say yes, and that Botox doesn't work for me. But the last 2 times I guess he has accidentally gave me Botox and not Dysport. The first time he made that mistake I never knew about it because I was charged the same Dysport price. The Botox didn't work and I thought maybe my body was getting used to it. I was made aware of the mistake the next time since the lady up front wanted my rewards account for Botox. I said that's weird I thought Dysport rewards is called Aspire, not Alle. Then she said I had a Botox injection. I said no there must have been a mistake. Then they talked with the assistant and she said I told her Botox and she verified it 2 times, which is a lie. I had a clear conversation with her about how it doesn't work for me. I know she was new and she is looking out for her job, but WTF. Mr. Malakouti said he gave me Botox the last time too, which freaked me out that I'm getting injections with chemicals that I am unaware of. He said if it doesn't work I can come back and get Dysport. I went home upset and told my husband about it. My husband was pissed that this seems like a medical malpractice or a medical negligence. I ended up making an appointment to get Dysport from him a few weeks later after the Botox did not work. 8 months later after my last Dysport injections, I make another appointment for Dysport injections and now Dr. Malakouti does not want to see me anymore and I guess we no longer have a good relationship according to the manager. I have followed him from Arlington to Everett and now Mill Creek each time he moved locations. I am a loyalist... He would tell me his dream to have his own brand of skin care products one day. How he went to a conference and met Dr. Pimple Popper, so lets just say I was really upset that he felt we don't have a good relationship anymore over HIS mistake. read more
