Ok! So first note, the only reason I'm leaving one star, is because I can't leave a review without doing so. I would rate them, absolute zero stars if I could. So this rant is titled: Never Fly Frontier, EVER!
So backstory, my family and I looked into it and turns out that it's cheaper to fly frontier with my ferret then it is to have him stay here in Seattle with a sitter. I'd flown Frontier with him before and didn't have any problems. As I didn't have much money after my move, my parents bought the tickets for me and were once again assured that there wouldn't be any problems with him coming on the plane with me.
Fast forward to today! I have no problems going through security, have waited at the gate for more than two hours without complaints, and am sitting on the plane awaiting take-off, when one of the gate attendants comes to me and says, "Miss, you can not have your ferret on the plane. I'm afraid that I have to escort you off." I told them that there must be a mistake, I've had him with me on the plane before without any problems and he just sleeps in his carrier. It's no different from having a cat or dog on the flight. She responded "The pilot is refusing to take-off as long as the ferret is on-board." I decided to go with her, knowing that a lot of the other passengers are just trying to get home for the holidays. (Though I'll be the first to admit, I did say that this was bull to her a couple of different times. In those words too, nothing ruder than that.)
When we arrive back at the gate, she's calling someone up on the phone and I assume that it's to find me a new flight, or at the very least get me a refund, and I call my dad to let him know what's happened. (Mind you this whole time, she's refusing to talk to me for more than a few words and is avoiding eye contact with me.) Turns out, she wasn't looking to help me by finding a new flight or get me any money back, she was calling to bring up the wording of the policy that allowed them to kick me off. "Rodents are absolutely not allowed on the plane under any circumstances" essentially. (Random side rant, FERRETS ARE NOT RODENTS! Any dumbass with access to the internet could figure that out. I can, to some extent, understand kicking someone off for having their pet with them. (Like if someone had allergies.) but don't try to do it for some bs policy that's factually incorrect. You know what animal is a rodent, rabbits! And they're allowed on the flight. I know this because I saw one as I was leaving the plane!) By this time, the plane has already taken off, so I know I'm stuck there, and I'm crying because I think I'm going to be alone for Christmas, and I kid you not the gate attendant starts laughing. At this point I'm pretty pissed, and I say "Well if I'm stuck here are you at least going to give us a refund?" She said, "I don't know. I can only forward the case to our refunds department." She sends me on my way to baggage claim to get my bag back and I'm left trying to figure out how/ if I can get home for Christmas.
On my family's side, they called Frontier to get the refund, that I believe we rightfully deserved, while I was struggling to figure things out. Low and behold, more BS as they try to refuse a refund to my parents. They said, and I quote, "We can kick anyone off of our flights and refuse to find a new one at any time, for any reason." (Essentially, I wasn't on the call on that, so I can only go by what I'm told.) Ok, so they did that, but what about the refund? "They also cannot refund a flight that we have cancelled." But we didn't cancel the flight!!! I was kicked off for having a pet on the flight, that I'd previously been assured had permission to be there!!
To Frontier's credit, they did, after much arguing that I'm pretty sure I heard at least part of while on the phone with my parents, finally end up reimbursing my parents for the tickets. But long story short, never fly frontier. They'll try to take whatever money they can get from you, without doing the promised service, and laugh in your face while they do it. read more
