We have NOT had a bad meal here. Most recently we enjoyed dinner here and it again did not disappoint. The wait staff is always on top of keeping our drinks filled and getting anything we ask for. They also have a great breakfast menu and options. There is street parking and a small parking lot nearby, There is also a rooftop seating option/bar on the weekends. Lots of places to check out around this area on foot before or after your meal.

Fajitas for two

This would be the first time I've visited a restaurant in Ennis. It was my mother in laws birthday so we decided to stop by. We came on a Saturday around 1ish pm. Party of 7 (4 adults,3 kids). The wait wasn't too bad but I will say the hostess was trying her best to keep up with everyone. There was so much confusion on parties because the hostess would write one name and then two other people would come by and try to find tables for other people. Idk what was going on. Staff Friendliness was ok. I will admit the wait for a party of 7 wasn't too bad maybe 10 min. The issue we had after was our waitress. Idk if she was new or what. My husband and I ordered the pineapple cucumber margarita (which were ok, had like a weird after taste) and my mother in law (MIL) ordered some other margarita. She brought out only mine and my husband and forgot about my MIL drink all together. (Note it's her birthday ) so she was not happy at all. We all ordered our food. My husband and I ordered the fajitas for two. My kids had the kids enchiladas. She ordered the appetizers sampler I believe and my MIL husband ordered some tacos. Let's start with our food. The wait time wasn't too bad considering they were busy on a Saturday. The presentation was nice. The taste was ok. Our fajitas weren't too bad. The kids enchiladas were eaten up but my kids didn't like the rice or beans (which they love at most places). The tacos were ok. The sampler was big and she said she enjoyed most of it. Note, the waitress also has said she forgot her food but somehow it appeared? Idk maybe she forgot she had put it in. Idk. Again she wasn't very attentive at all to us. Overall the restaurant was clean and the environment looked nice. When it came time to pay she dropped the ticket off and forgot about us again. So we had to wait another 10 min for her to come back so we could pay and leave. Price wise it wasn't too bad, quality of food I'm still undecided but for now it'll be like a 3 out of 5 on it. Would I return I still haven't decided since the staff didn't seem too attentive or friendly so we will see.

First time, but definitely not the last! I stopped by From Scratch Daniels Kitchen in Ennis for the first time, and it was a great experience from start to finish. The bacon cheeseburger was absolutely on point -- juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The onion rings were crispy and golden, and paired perfectly with my Margarita, which was smooth and refreshing. You can tell everything is made with care and quality ingredients. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was great. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Migas

Great service but so expensive for breakfast! We split the Migas and the portion was on the small side.

Their salsa's with black bean dip. No bueno they use a lot of chipotle sauce instead of fresh tomatoes and peppers.

I have eaten here a number of times. Really good food and a unique combined menu of southern cooking and Tex Mex.

El Santo Kamaron - Torta Bisteck

El Santo Kamaron

No longer a food stand, this place has it all! You will be transported. We were. Terrific music…read more Tropical colors. A cute exterior. And the menu at El Santo Kamaron is wonderful. It has photos of everything. I love ceviche and I had a very difficult time deciding. Ceviche, Aguachile made in multiple ways, Coctels, Seafood Tower, Tostilocos con Ceviche! Hacha and all kinds of shrimp. Beautiful Snow Crab. They make trays of items. Bowls. Boils. Molcajete. Ramen noodle bowls. There is Zarandeados style to cook shrimp and octopus. There's Beef, too. Fajitas. Carne asada. Bistec. Barbacoa. Burgers. So, we had our favorites. I ordered a Plato de Ceviche that comes comes with fresh thin fried corn chips and a fish tacos platter (4). My husband ordered this huge Carne Asada Plate. Our sweet waitress was kind and patient. Much of the menu is in Spanish for items that I'd never heard of and wanted to know about. I tried not to monopolize her. There was all this incredible looking food around us! It looked like we were served a very tasty fire roasted salsa Negra to kick things off. Our food arrived fairly soon. My husband's Carne Asada Plate was enough for two. Served on a tray, it came with 6 flour tortillas and he took half of what you see in the photo home. The meat was so tender and the grilled whole onion was delicious. My ceviche rocked. Crunchy veggies and well seasoned and marinated fish and shrimp, lots of avocado and a surprise! Tender bites of octopus at the edges of this enormous serving of Ceviche. It was perfection. Next time I want to try the Aguachile. My only problem will be which one? I opted to take half the ceviche home and jump into a fish taco. There was so much fish, it barely fit into the tortilla. My husband had one too. There were two delicious creamy sauces, Pico de Gallo and purple cabbage. Crunchy enough to stand up to everything, it was SO good. I took the other two home of course. This area of downtown Ennis is so very nice. Plenty of parking. Benches. The restaurant has patio dining but it was much too cold. On a Sunday evening, every table was packed, but we waited just a couple of minutes. Service was lovely. We'll definitely be back. I can hardly wait!!

One of two places it looks like to eat in Founders Row. Came with a group of 7. We stood around the bar height tables and had drinks for about an hour before finally sitting down. The bartender took great care of us despite the size of the group and ensured we had everything we needed. Once we sat down, the real magic happened. We ordered a few apps for the table, calamari, spinach and artichoke dip and alligator bites. I only had some of the artichoke dip and some of the complementary smoked salmon dip they brought out. Didn't want to be too full for the catfish plate I ordered. The artichoke dip was made with smoked Gouda and was great. The other apps got great comments from other people in the party. I ordered a fried catfish plate that came with grilled shrimp, coleslaw and fries. Catfish was cooked perfectly and the grilled shrimp were delicious, great seasoning. The coleslaw is made with cabbage, green bell pepper and apple cider vinegar. Really great combo that worked well. Service was great especially for our large party. Our server who was also the bartender because we sat in the bar area kept a fresh soda water in front of me the entire time, never had to ask. The manager/owner? even stopped over to check in on us a couple of times. Stop in for a great meal, I wish I could return to try the crawfish etoufee.

There's also an easy-going ambiance reminiscent of that Crescent City charm with a menu and service to match. We were delighted to see so much of the late David Wilson's cuisine on the menu from his Cedar Hill restaurant. His son Shawn has a jewel here and it was tough to decide on an entree. There are many enticing newer items. Special menu items included a Spinach Artichoke Dip, Steelhead Trout, and even Grouper! Our waiter, Tanner, was very kind and helpful. Eventually I ordered an old favorite, the Fried Seafood Platter with Fried shrimp, scallops, and catfish that came with a Remoulade, a sweet and spicy Cocktail Sauce and a delicious Tartar Sauce. Substitutions were not a problem and of the sides, I ordered the sautéed Spinach and a potato cake! My husband was easy. Wilson's Pot Roast was calling him. Cooked with Cajun seasoning and slow roasted, it's served with mashed potatoes, celery, carrots, fried onions and gravy. He also wanted some Jalapeño Hush Puppies. There was virtually no wait for our food or so it seemed. Our food arrived and it was terrific, first bite to last. Odd that I would enjoy a vegetable so much but the spinach was excellent and it disappeared. All of my Seafood was perfectly fried with even my shrimp tails edible - nice and tender and crunchy. The potato cake was also yummy. I haven't had one in some time. That thin fried shell with the creamy tasty interior ... My husband was over there seemingly playing in his fried onions and gravy. I had to laugh. And then try some. Ooooh. So good. He couldn't stop eating them. And the roast beef! Very tender and a huge portion. We were definitely impressed with our first outing. The restaurant is beautiful. A gorgeous bar takes up one side of room. There are tables with pews for seating, and others with a singular banquette on one side and chairs on the other. These tables can be moved. There are two unisex restrooms. Everything was very clean. The "Revival Tent" patio is equipped with fans and lighting and would be nice in almost any weather. There is ramped handicapped access in front. We're coming back soon. I was impressed with the environs, pricing, portions, quality and especially the service.

Nothing flashy, nothing trying too hard just flavor that knew where it came from and didn't apologize. The arugula salad came sharp and clean, green with intent, that bitter edge that wakes you up a little and reminds you you're still alive. It wasn't there to impress you. It was there to balance things out, like a deep breath between sentences. I drank Earl Grey tea, steam rising slow, bergamot drifting up like memory, like train smoke somewhere far off. It felt right. The kind of tea you drink when you're not rushing anywhere, when the world can spin without you for a moment and that's okay. Fern in the Wild isn't trying to reinvent eating. It's doing something better. It's paying attention. To ingredients. To pace. To the quiet pleasure of a meal done right.
