Ok, I decided to try this place again. Today is a Wednesday, 1:00 pm. Off the back they are empty so I'm thinking that service would be quick? I guess we were wrong. The waitress was all over the place. We ordered the jalapeños poppers and she never brought us some plates to share. Ok whatever. My thing is when you order your appetizer you'll let them know what you're ordering. Well she didn't. If anything she forgot we were here for 10 min. Even after making eye contact with my husband who was asking her to come over. There was 6 employees jsut chilling and talking to the side. I felt annoyed. I was so closed to leaving. I get you guys are slow but just because there's no one besides us, doesn't give you the reason to take your sweet time to come attend us. We were expecting a quick lunch. The jalapeno poppers weren't too bad. Kinda spicy with chicken inside. But I wish they had cheese as well. We ordered the poblano enchiladas and the Santa Clara enchiladas. They both were ok. The Santa Clara ones felt like they were a big on the salty side but the poblano ones weren't too bad. They both came with rice and frijoles Charos. Beans came with tortilla chips on top. We have NOT had a bad meal here. Most recently we enjoyed dinner here and it again did not disappoint. The wait staff is always on top of keeping our drinks filled and getting anything we ask for. Wow. Reading the one star negative reviews makes me wonder if we ate at the same place. We had lunch here after a long morning of chasing bluebonnets throughout the countryside. WE LOVED IT! Our server,Kyli, was so sweet and attentive. We asked her for a suggestion from the menu and she suggested the Monterrey Chicken. It was so good and a huge portion. The shrimp did not have a great taste and the ribeye steak was only about a quarter an inch thick and was not tasty or medium cooked, like we ordered. I don't regularly rate restaurants but felt this one needed commenting on. This is my 2nd visit. The food and service were so great the first time; I had to return to see if it was a fluke. It was not a fluke. Both the food and service were just as good this time around. We visited at lunch on a Friday both times. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and you get a lot of food for the money. I can't recall the last time I have had fajitas this delicious at a restaurant. From scratch Daniel's Kitchen: my first visit and I got a combo of beef and shrimp fajitas. I am very picky when it comes to fajitas!! OMG!!! Those beef fajitas were TENDER, flavorful and the grilled shrimp was the bomb!! The pico de gallo was fresh. I did have to send back the refried beans because they were cold. However, it was fixed in a heartbeat. Those beans tasted homemade and the rice was not dry. I'll order these again. And our waitress Penny was attentive and took care of us. I'll definitely be back!! Small town folk who are not inviting to anyone who didn't go to the local high school. Showed up at to a full bar of patrons and were denied because we didn't know the bartenders name personally. The sign post clearly stated open until 11pm. If I was running this establishment, id question the work ethic and inclusiveness that my staff was showing to the general public. Food is really really good, the chicken is super flavorful and moist, was able to cut it with a fork. The only thing we were disappointed in was the salad, it was a bit pricey for the lack of ingredients. $8 for a side salad, which is high, and all it is is iceberg lettuce, small amount of cheese and tomatoes, croutons we're going to be an extra charge. This was our first time visiting this restaurant so it may have been an off night. There were three of us and we all had the catfish and shrimp. Onion rings, okra, cabbage, and blacked peas were the sides. Service was spotty. We waited a good 8 minutes after being seated before anyone acknowledged us. We ordered 3 waters with lemon. Surprise, they don't have lemons only limes but failed to mention that. We also ordered the queso at the same time. I got the impression I was not supposed to order from that person but we were traveling and didn't want to wait any longer than necessary. We received our drinks and queso. Our waitress did not show up for awhile so I asked another waitress for more chips. Agin I got the impression that I was not supposed to do that. The look she gave me said it all but she did it anyways. The food took about 25 minutes to come to the table. 4 strips of catfish and 4 large shrimp is generous. And filling. The sides were not so great. The onion rings were cold and had been sitting for a while. The blacked eye peas lacked flavor. The cabbage had a big hunk of the core in it and lacked flavor. The okra was decent. There is a fine line between checking on your table too much and not enough. We were in the not enough camp. And the place was a little busy but not overly so. Have always been to From Scratch for breakfast service. It is very filling, tasty and plentiful. We have always been there with a group of 12 to 14. The service was steady and we only had to call waitress once for something missing. But it was taken care of and an enjoyable experience in all. read more
