I've had 3 sandwiches here so far and all have been tasty and satisfying. Staff is friendly and speedy. The traditional Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms, onions, provolone and peppers is my favorite but after trying the meatball hoagie it's a tough call. I've also had a cold Italian hoagie which was also good with some hot peppers. Bread appears to be baked in house, crispy on the outside and soft inside. I mentioned something to cashier and after a couple minutes the cleaning lady stopped because the MOD/ cashier told her to. not sure who the real boss was that night. cleaning person should be retrained. you don't spray cleaning chemicals while food is being cooked. cashier was wonderful and cook offered to make another sandwich for me but I was in hurry. Excellent place for quick and reasonable price lunch! I ordered the original Philly cheesesteak and it truly did remind me of Philly! I would say that this is probably the best Philly cheesesteak I ever had in the west coast! It also has a NY style deli feeling, yet it is more cleaner and nicer. "From Philly" simply is the best Philly Cheesesteak I've had, since I moved to California in 1985. Their Cheesesteaks may even be better than the best Philly has to offer. I'm serious. While I was enjoying my Philly Cheesesteak (American & provolone with fried onions and side of hot peppers), some stranger sitting next to me said...you need to go try John's Philly Cheesesteak in Seal Beach. He said, they blow these away. Well, being curious, I had to try it. So I took my son with me to John's. Now, before I tell you the outcome, I just want to say, it's amazing what people actually consider quality. From Philly blows John's away. 1st off, the bread at John's is too tuff and chewy. From Philly's is made homemade on site and is the closest to South Philly bread. No 2, the quality of From Philly's steak was far superior, has more flavor and melts in your mouth. Last, From Philly's hot pepper mix is just flat out awesome and completes the sandwich. I just found my go to Philly Cheesesteak place. For years Franks Phillidelphea was the only cheesesteak place for me. Until now. From Philly is a different style sandwich. The bread is baked on premises and the meat is more like a sliced steak as opposed to the ground style of Franks. Both are good but for different reasons. Highly recommended. read more

There are 5 or 6 tables and a nice outside patio with umbrellas. Food is fresh and comes out hot. My order was correct and the price was worth it. However, Philly's Best, Frank's Philadelphia, and John's Philly are some of the establishments that specialize in this East Coast favorite. From Philly boasts a wide array of sandwiches, chips, sides, and sodas in a newly renovated spot located next to the old liquor store on Baker and across the street from an apartment complex. We ordered the Traditional Philly Cheesesteak at $10.49 and the Old World Italian at $9.99 with a side of fries for $2.99. So how did From Philly's cheesesteaks stack up against their competitors? Theirs is similar to Philly's Best but with a better ratio of meat, cheese, peppers, mushrooms, and onions. The bread is soft and chewy on the inside with a slight crust on the exterior. The tender, thinly sliced meat is seasoned well and the gooey American cheese, Provolone, and hint of mayo lent a decent amount of salt and fat to the sandwich. The fries were subpar but perhaps we received an old batch of fries. I wasn't a fan of the seasoning either. Next time, I'll try the macaroni or potato salad from one of the numerous self serve fridges. As for the Old World Italian, it was a basic cold cut sandwich comprising of proscuiotto, capicola, soppressata, tomatoes, provolone, mozzarella, mayo, and mustard. Nothing special nor unique. Compared to some of the famous establishments in Philadelphia such as Tony Luke's and Pat's, From Philly falls a little short. Where's the option for cheese whiz?
