When we picked up the dress Lilianne had made the executive decision to hem from the waist as she felt that cutting the lace would interrupt the pattern too much. We were not charged for the upgrade. Other local seamstress suggested my daughter wear higher heels. No way we could add another 4 inches to her already high heels.

I went to all the 'must see' places in Vancouver (Bisou, Blush, Frocks etc) and I am so glad I went to and bought my dress from Something Blue. The dresses: the dresses at SB are all their own designs which means you won't be wearing just another wedding dress from a typical designer or wedding label, you will be wearing a unique piece of art. The materials they use and the quality of the dresses are unlike any I saw elsewhere. They were so luxurious and details in the gowns were unmatched elsewhere. They have such a wonderful variety of styles to chose from and are able to customize dresses and change things to suit your taste. The experience: You feel so special when you go into their beautiful shop. The white dresses look so elegant with the contrasting blue carpet in the store. You feel like you have time to look and consider your options. This was by far the most beautiful shop I visited in Vancouver. I met with Jija during my appointment and she was so lovely and so helpful. She really listened to what I was looking for and the style of wedding I was planning. As another reviewer noted she knows the dresses inside and out and can give you lots of options to accessorize the dress to make it your own and they will custom make an accessory and veil to suit the look you are going for. The prices: The prices were totally reasonable. When I went, their inventory was comparable with the lower price point at stores such as Blush or Bisou. I was told at the other stores (blush/bisou) that there were only a handful of dresses I could look at in that range, at Something Blue I was able to look at every dress in the store. And there was no comparison when it came to quality, style and fabrics - Something Blue was far superior and in a category all it's own. I ended up falling in love with a dress that was 1/2 price making it comparable with the prices at a discount bridal shop such as David's, but of a quality unrivaled at any luxury store. Customizing: Jija and Heather have such an amazing eye for detail and I can't wait to work with them on accessories and a veil. They have such great ideas and are really willing to help you get the look you want. They do the alterations and are total perfectionists so your dress will be perfect for your big day. Overall: I think it's a good idea to really look around but make sure you go to Something Blue. You may find lovely dresses at other shops but none will compare in quality, detail or fabric. At Something Blue you will find the dress that was made for you. Sure you can get a beautiful dress at another store, but it won't be a unique piece of art that is locally made and you won't find service like this anywhere else.

Everything I had seen up until that point had been pretty disastrous (I am a person of odd proportions), and the salespeople I had interacted with had been pretty snooty, and actually not very knowledgeable. So it was with a bit of a heavy heart ("oh no, here we go again") that I entered Something Blue. I've got to say, I didn't have high hopes walking into this shop. It's in an odd area of town for a dress shop, and wasn't at all what I expected in terms of decor (the space is very open, with high ceilings and concrete floors). There are two walls with a single line of dresses hanging. I was greeted at Something Blue in a pleasant manner, and left to browse the dresses for a few minutes. The quality of the fabrics and the level of skill of the designers was immediately obvious when I started looking at these dresses. I picked a couple to try on. This is the point at which the real fun began. The dressing rooms are enormous and carpeted, with a full wall of mirror. The designers are also the women who put the dresses on you and pin them so you can see how they would fit properly. They are so knowledgeable, and offer advice about lots of different wedding-related things, even if that info wouldn't help them to make a sale. The best part is that the dresses look phenomenal. That kind of good-quality fabric and skilled workmanship really makes a difference in how the dress looks. In other places, the saleswomen had kind of seemed exasperated that my body didn't fit the dresses properly. Here, it was definitely about making the dress fit properly. It really made a difference. Even though they had to pin the dresses here and there, I could see that I could actually be a beautiful bride on my wedding day. I have never felt so gorgeous in my life, and can't imagine how much better that would be when the dress was actually made to fit me. If you buy a dress there, they actually make it (here in Vancouver) to your measurements. You get to go in for fittings, and from what I hear, the process itself is really special. I went back in to try on the dress I'd fallen in love with a few weeks later and brought along a couple of my friends. They'd come along on some of my other wedding-dress-shopping trips. I put on the dress and pulled back the curtain on the dressing room. One of my friends looked really happy and impressed, and the other one looked really sad. I asked her why she had that expression on her face, and she said "Compared to that dress, everything else you've tried on looks like crap." (She's pretty blunt) I'd definitely recommend Something Blue. Especially if dress shopping has got you down.

The parking situation was a little bit confusing but other than that, everything went smoothly. Vimo is one of the few places here that offer rentals, which I thought was very cool. There's also discounts offered on previously rented dresses so there are lots of great deals. Mandy was the bridal consultant when I visited and she was super kind and helpful throughout the whole process. Although their website sounds very strict about time limits and trying on only 6 dresses, I never felt rushed at all or pressured to try fewer dresses. There were some really nice options and I even retried a few. I particularly liked that the sizes and styles they carry are more suitable for me. If I could have more than one wedding dress, I definitely would have gone with Vimo

She wanted to come back the week later with her bridesmaid so the sales person said we can put a deposit down to hold the dress for a week. My sister wasn't sure if she wanted it still and the sales person said that she could use the credit for other things in the store. My sister ended up not getting the dress the following week and one week later she got an email saying the credit was expiring the next day. NEVER at any time did the sales person or team at Vimo say there was a time limit on this credit! Super shady practice to do this and leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth. In my opinion, the dresses itself are much too overpriced for the quality.

At my first appointment, I got to try on a variety of dresses and my bridal consultant Tatiane had pulled several dresses for me ahead of time based on my preferences. She also offered a lot of helpful feedback and tips of what to look for in a dress and what modifications can be made. I'm very indecisive and I felt that Tatiane did an excellent job of guiding me towards finding my ideal dress. Communication after my appointment was also very prompt when I requested more information about the dresses I liked. When I finally decided on my dress, Tatiane was kind enough to put it on hold until my appointment to go try it again. Overall I enjoyed my experience at Lisa's. I especially liked the large variety of dresses they carry and I'm very happy to have found my dress off the rack so I don't have to worry about ordering. Hopefully the alterations go smoothly as well!

In 2002, I made the biggest mistake of my life: I got married. (I have since gotten a divorce.) I was young and stupid, and it being my first wedding, I was doing all the traditional wedding things, such as wedding dress shopping. My bridesmaids and I went to New West to start my wedding dress search. We walked into Lisa's Bridal Salon, which was empty, and were met with disgust and distain, and told with a snotty attitude that we needed an appointment. (Uh, what's wrong with walking in TO make an appointment?!) We told the rude woman that we were looking for wedding dresses, and the second she heard the word "wedding", she treated us like royalty. We booked an appointment and came back an hour or so later. When we arrived, the store was still empty except for a couple of teenagers (who were in no way being obnoxious) finishing up with their prom dress purchases. When they left, the woman made a rude comment about them (I no longer remember what, but I recall the incident). Clearly she had no respect for customers, unless they were purchasing wedding dresses, which was the reason why we were treated so shabbily when we initially walked in -- she assumed we were teenagers wanting to purchase a $300 prom dress instead of a $3000 wedding dress. Anyway, not only were the dresses quite expensive, but they were ugly. There wasn't one dress that appealed to me, and when I told the woman what I was looking for/what style I liked, she pressured me to try on dresses I had no interest in (back then, as a kid barely out of high school with no self-esteem, I wasn't very assertive). She also barged in on me as I was changing, and forced an ugly dress on me, scratching my arms with all the gaudy beading adorning the dress. So, to summarize, I hate Lisa's because: 1. The employees there were fucking rude, treating their customers like shit unless they were buying a wedding dress. 2. The sales woman I dealt with was pushy and wouldn't listen to my preferences, and didn't respect people's boundaries. 3. The dresses were ugly and very expensive. I didn't buy a dress there, obviously, and instead, I bought a dress from a nearby store, for $400, from a person who didn't treat me like garbage or judge me and make assumptions based on my appearance. Even though this incident happened 16 years ago, I still remember, and I certainly will NOT buy a wedding dress from there for my upcoming wedding in November. [Yelp collections: Rude!]

Although they have a decent selection of dresses, beware of having your new dress altered here! My…read moremom bought a dress here, it was too big but they assured her the alterations would make it perfect. They make it sound like they're giving you an awesome deal, asking for payment in advance in cash. The alterations were done so poorly, with the dress top still not fitting properly, the hem being uneven with frayed edges and loose threads showing. We asked for some of the defects to be fixed and they agreed. When we came in the second time the dress was incrementally better. The excuse this time was that the style of dress couldn't be altered the way it needed to. Why didn't they explain that in the first place? If they have professional seamstresses, shouldn't they have known that before hand? They tried to convince us the alterations were good, their attitude was pretty care-less. Too bad we had to pay ahead of time. I'm super disappointed for my mom as she spent over $400 on this dress and decided not to wear it because it didn't fit her properly. I will not be back and encourage you to think twice before shopping here!

I visited Truvelle in September of 2018 looking for my wedding dress. I had been following Truvelle…read moreon Instagram for quite some time and I loved all the dresses so I was eagerly anticipating my appointment. My appointment was on a Saturday afternoon, which may have made it less than positive experience. When I arrived, we were given a spot in the back corner of the store. Another bride and her guests were in the center of the store. I had brought my mom, my sister, and my best friend with me and it was quite tight to fit all three of them into the small space given to us. At our previous appointments, my style and budget had been inquired about and we had been offered water (and in one case champagne), at Truvelle none of these things were asked or offered to me. The salesperson did ask about my wedding date and then she told me that I could pull anything off the rack I wanted. I pulled a few dresses but because the other bride who was there had already pulled some that I was interested in I was told that I would need to wait and maybe I'd be able to try on those dresses. The samples did not fit (which I completely understand) but the salesperson did not clip them to give me a sense of how they would look (it looked like the other bride had all the clips they had), so my mom held them closed so we could get some sense of how the dresses would fit. One of the coolest things about Truvelle is that you can customize their dresses and there were quite a few customizations in the store to try on. When I inquired with the salesperson about what the specific customizations were, so that I could request them if I chose to buy the gown, she seemed vague and unable to really answer my questions. The poor customer service felt really disappointing given how excited I had been about this business. Also, for me personally, the materials of the dresses just weren't what I was looking for, each dress has several layers which left me feeling weighed down and warm. Some of the dresses were definitely beautiful but in person I just didn't love the materials. I had thought I would buy a Truvelle dress but ultimately I decided to buy my dress from a different designer and a boutique which I felt like really listened to my preferences. Unfortunately given my experience, I wouldn't recommend that my friends visit this store on a weekend. I hope that others have better experiences than I did.

During our appointment we had the beautiful storefront to ourselves. The dresses were beyond beautiful with their delicate details, unique materials and a variety of shades. I had a lot of fun trying on different styles and having having the lady in the shop tie a big bow in the back or add on a veil to help me picture myself as a bride. Once I tried on the Alexandra dress in dove grey I was sold. The dress was comfortable, moved elegantly and was long enough for my 6 foot frame. The lady in the shop took my measurements and sent me an email with additional information later that day. Once I decided to move forward with ordering the dress it was a simple process. I live in San Francisco and Truvelle was able to courier the dress here once it was made. The shop sent me a fabric swatch in the mail to help with picking colors for bridesmaids, flowers and any other decor that I wanted to coordinate with the dress. When I had questions such as what shoes they would recommend to finding out the ETA of the delivery the ladies at the shop were always helpful and quick to respond. The dress did not require much tailoring - shortening the straps, adding sewn in cups, buttons to create a bustle for the train and sewing the bow to the waist. On my wedding day putting on the dress was very exciting. Seeing the look on my now husband's face was priceless. He loved the dress as much as I did. The way the dress looked in photos on an overcast Northern California day was perfection. My friends and family showered me with compliments about how much they adored the dress. I hope to wear it on anniversaries since it can look less bridal with a tuxedo jacket on top. I was told by friends that deciding on the wedding dress was one of the toughest decisions of planning. I feel lucky that I was able to find a dress at Truvelle and feel confident in the choice. It was a positive experience from beginning to end and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a dress for a wedding or otherwise. Their instagram account is one of my favorites to follow. Their dresses look beautiful on all women and photograph so well!
