Having read that the company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy (restructuring) a few days ago, we took the opportunity to eat here in case this location was slated for closure. Our meals were basic but tasty sandwiches and fries. I added a side of cole slaw which was very good. She had been here years ago and praised the ice cream. So we shared my first Caramel Fudge Brownie Sundae. It was awesome! Their branded ice cream is available in stores - manufactured by Dean Foods (now owned by Dairy Farmers of America) since 2016. Poor service. When you walk in, you have to wait 5 minutes before someone will come up and greet you. We watched around a dozen people leave because no one was sitting anyone. While being checked in, you are asked if you are there for food. Why else would I be there? Once we were seated, it took at least 15 minutes before our waiter came up to the table. Once we placed our drink and appetizer order, it took 10 minutes to get our drinks. When he brought the appetizer to the table, he just flopped it on the table and left. Couple minutes later he took our order and disappeared for a long time. It was 30 to 40 mins for our food to come out. Our drinks were empty 20 to 30 minutes before hand. And still was when we got our food. So when the food did come out, 2 other servers brought it out, served 4 out of 5 people, ignored requests for refills of drinks and ignored the 5th person asking where his food was. And served the food without any napkins. Never asked if we wanted silverware. About 15 minutes after getting our food, and still nothing to drink, our waiter finally showed up, told him we are waiting on drink refills, my food and napkins. He never apologized and just said, hold on and walked to the kitchen. 5 minutes later he comes back and tells us it be a couple minutes for the rest of the food. We again, asked for drink refills and napkins. It took about another 5 minutes to get drink refills. We again asked for napkins which took a couple minutes to get. So it took about 15 minutes from the time he went to find the rest of the food to getting it. By now, half of the table is done eating and the other half 3/4 done eating. And again a different server brought out the missing food. We asked for more refills of our drinks, and was told they ran out of tea. Really, how to you run out of tea? He asked if water was OK, but did not offer a different drink in its place for the free refills. Like free soda. When time came to order desserts, our waiter took 4 orders out of 5, ignored the 5th person, who happened to be the person the forgot the meal for, and started walking away without asking if that person wanted anything. We spoke up, and asked him what about the other person, aren't they allowed to order? He took the rest of the order. 10 minutes later, the ice cream came out. There was a problem with a couple and the time change, but he explained that the manager took care of that. The person that they forgot the meal for and tried to skip dessert for, ordered a large Sundae. Which was not filled to the top. Even the whip cream was but on lite. Never asked about drink refills again but did ask if we wanted a box for the food for our son. We said yes, and a few minutes later, our waiter walks by, without stopping, drops the box on the table almost knocking my wife purse off onto the floor, saying here's your box, as he walked away. Service was just rude. This place was not busy, maybe 6 to 8 tables, with at least 4 to 5 different servers that we saw, and they they had line for no reason of people waiting to be seated while others walked away because no one would greet and seat anyone. This place seated everyone near the doors. You felt crowded and you had to talk over the tables around you because they could not spread tables out to give some privacy and not felling crowded. The back room was not even being used. Lights were off. But let's just sit everyone on top of everyone. I took my family there, as I wanted my children to experience the Friendly's ice cream, but it turned out to be a horrible meal. Wait times are ridiculous and the service is extremely poor at best. Food is not that great and very overpriced. $10.00 for 2 small hot dogs and a few fries? Really. And the toasted bread, was just bread. Nothing special, no roll or anything. Bread that was toasted. Sad, very sad. Should not have been billed for a number of things but the waiter just didn't care enough to fix the problems or issues that came up, even with being told. read more

I have been to my share of Friendly's - the first time was probably with my Grandma at the Harrisburg East Mall location. This visit was to the route 30 location across from Burger King with my wife and son. The wait was short and we were seated all the way back toward the M & T bank side near the kitchen in the front of the restaurant. The temperature inside was warm which I only noticed because there was a slight musty odor when we sat down. I noticed ice under the table after I was seated so it could have been carpet smell. The waitress who waited on us was young and friendly and took our drink orders quickly and came back for our food order. I ordered the New - Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt and loaded potato wedges since I was hungry from shopping at Bj's with the family. My wife ordered the 9.99 create your own meal w/ Honey BBQ Chicken SuperMelt™ Sandwich and we split the happy ending sunday with reeses peanut butter cup with oreo topping. I think the family oriented atmosphere is fine, but it can be a bit loud and we could here screaming kids in the background -just a little loud. The prices are decent for the amount of food and it is of good quality. The burger was a little greasier than the bacon egg & cheeseburger from IHOP if you can imagine, but very cheesy and the burger was meaty and juicy. I liked the fries and couldn't ask for better service really - quick and personable. I will be back, but I know what I am getting when I come here. I was happy to have used a $3 off of $15 or more total bill coupon from the Coupon clipper, it made the visit more reasonable about $19 after discount with tip for the 2 of us. read more

OMG the ice-cream is so good. The Butter finger Sunday is insane! The food is OK but not spectacular. Its like a franchised diner of sorts. Everything was well prepared and delicious. I had a burger, my daughter a grilled cheese, and my wife a sandwich, and we all enjoyed them. When my family went they were having a special, if you didn't get your meal in 15 minutes then it was free on your next visit. Well it just so happened that it was packed that day and they were short on staff, so my entire family got free ice cream and coupons to get our meals free the next time. The manager was awesome and was straightforward about her situation that day, and we were happy to have some and reap the benefits of their shortcomings that day. Needless to say, that promotion didn't last long. They probably lost their shirts that day, we were not the only family having a good time at their expense. read more

I ordered food to go from here with a third-party app and I would not recommend eating here. First of all, my drinks were forgotten. I ordered a waffle sundae and I will never order it again. The description says that fudge is included, but I did not receive any. The waffles were DRY which sucked because they forgot our drinks. I also ordered a salad and my lettuce was brown. Never again. Ate there yesterday (10/13/2015), very disappointed again! This place is really a hit-or-miss type of restaurant. We ordered four of the $5.00 Bacon Cheeseburger Specials which comes with fries. Why four, I usually love the fries and my dog loves the burgers. The burgers I received this time were very greasy; I think they could have been done a little bit longer. The fries were not golden as usual and tasted of old stale grease, slightly under-cooked. The waitress, well just did her job and that's about it. They (Friendly's) seem to just want to push dessert / ice cream down your throat. And once you get your bill it takes the waitress forever to come back just to pay your bill. I am so disgusted with this establishment. We go maybe once a year and that's only because I assume there is no way a problem that big could continue to exist and that something had to have been done. And every single time, I am mistaken. I should also let you know that there were only 2 people in our party, we dined between lunch and dinner, with few other patrons in the building, and I'm fairly certain she was only waiting on ours and one other table. Waitress, supervisor and every other employee ignores the patrons. Not friendly at all! The past four times I have tried to call an order in the phone is busy for 15-20 mins so Forget calling it in and picking it up. Instead you will stand in line, your time wasted. Breaking News!: This Friendly's sucks! I was seated with my family into a crust-infested booth, completed with the view of the very incompetent waitress (Bela or Beva was her name) and manager. The first thing the waitress does before greeting and seating us was taking a seat next to me before she takes our drink orders. She tells us how long and hard her day was. She takes our orders for drinks; just drinks. The place wasn't very busy in our section, so at max, drinks should take 5 minutes. Instead, it took almost 3 times that amount. This was when another large family came in. She then took our orders after another 10 minutes. A triple decker sandwich, a lobster roll, and a grilled chicken avocado roll. All of this should take 15-20 minutes. We then noticed the table next to us had an issue with the food as well in which their grilled cheese wasn't prepared correctly. The manager was brought out, just to give excuses, just like his establishment is a total excuse. Our food was brought in almost 40 minutes. The lobster roll was a sad excuse for 'food.' The chicken sandwich was bland and distasteful. The triple decker looked bland as well. The fries were liberally used, so were the brain cells of the workers. The family that came in after us was almost done with their dinner and moved onto their desert. We asked for the manager and he gave more excuses. I quote, the burgers took long to cook because 'they are finicky.' Great use of the English language, dude. We paid $50 and left. Shortly after we got in the car, we saw our waitress literally run outside to another worker and had a hit of his cigarette, then another employee run outside and do the same. This was the fourth employee we saw sitting around, since there was another waitress sitting on her phone at one of the tables. Stopped at this Friendly's for ice cream. The bananna in the bananna split was over ripe and had large brown spots. They could of at least hid those in the ice cream. My coffee was served in a dirty cup with very obvious food smudges I noticed after I drank the coffee down a bit. I had very good service. Had a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and a small hot fudge sundae. We don't have Friendly's where I live, so this is really a treat. The chicken on the salad was hot and fresh and the dressing was tangy and tasty. Croutons were crunchy. The sundae was excellent and something to look forward to after getting off work. This location could use a serious refresh. It looks like it's a bit beat up, but morale among the cooks and servers sounded very high (I was seated next to the kitchen pick-up window). If I had a zero star review I would do that. The service is awful. We waited 20 mins to even get acknowledged and the only reason we did was because of another table near us. I always enjoy my meal at this location, and I do enjoy one or two of the dedicated servers. The food comes hot, fresh, and just the way I asked for it to be prepared. The only reason I cannot give 5 stars is because of the managers attitudes. If they aren't giving you attitude, then they have the angriest looks on their faces. They seem frustrated, surely you are inconveniencing them, taking them from some activity they'd MUCH rather be doing. Even though it was empty we had to to wait 30 minutes for our food. When it did show up it our birthday girl was served a quesadilla instead of a hot dog. After the meal we ordered ice cream. Bussing the table before serving the ice cream would have been nice if not simply to make room. Again it took forever and they got on order wrong. It was supposed to be vanilla with pineapple sundae. Friendlys has always had a special place in my heart. My father was a former employee when he was in high school so I have ways had positive feelings toward the restaurant. I am glad to say that I had a wonderful time during my last visit. The staff was incredibly friendly(no pun intended), and the food we had was filled with flavor in every nook and cranny imaginable. The only slight negatives had to do with pricing and wait times. My father recognized a menu item that was 2.99 when he worked at Friendlys. It was 6.99 at the time of our visit. Inflation is alive and well people, if you didn't believe in that economic principle I hope you do now. While the food is high quality, the prices have gone up quite a bit. The burgers we had were succulent and delicious, so my father and I decided to cap our night with a famous Fribble. When I received my Fribble, it was delicious, but I felt like it took quite a long time to get out to me in regards to the number of patrons. My father told me that when he worked at Friendly's, a fribble did not take that long to produce and get out to a customer. Granted, that was 30 years ago, and the fribble making process may have changed considerably. To conclude, I wholeheartedly enjoyed my visit and minus the prices and somewhat long fribble wait time, it was a positive experience that will help me develop and grow as a person. read more

Took my girlfriend and her children here for dinner last night. I will never do that again. We continually had to wait or ask multiple times for things. The hostess was slow seating us. She looked like she was lost trying to get the menus together. Our server seemed like it was her first day. She came to our table, not even 5 minutes after receiving our food, to ask if we were ready for ice cream. She would not take our empty appetizer plate away. When the $60 Bill came, I left a $10 tip. 15 minutes after paying the bill we were still waiting on our to go sundaes. 2 small sundaes and 3 kids sundaes. Wow. Them offered me a 15% coupon for our next visit. That barely covers the tip I left. We drove 20 miles to go to this restaurant. I called and asked to speak to the manager. The manager told me that calling her staff incompetent for not being able to find the to go cups for sundaes was rude and uncalled for. And the 15% percent coupon is the most she could do.
