But I truly was disappointed in the quality/quantity of food compared to the prices.. I would have been better off ordering a kids meal that came with ice cream! My food was good, so was my ice cream, and I have no complaints. However, my sister-in-law ordered a green smoothie. They brought a smoothie out to her, and it was greenISH and tasted like peanut butter. When brought up to the attention of the waitress, she went back to the kitchen, and they stated that they didn't have all of the ingredients for the green smoothie, so they just put them what they had. This office super friendly and the location is always of kept. It's never a long wait for seating. Food has a variety for those with dietary restrictions. I go out for breakfast fairly often, but for the past couple of days I've gone to the Friendly's on Talcottville Road in Vernon, which I haven't visited in years. Let me preface my remarks by saying I've eaten breakfast in almost every eatery in Vernon, and I don't think I've ever had a bad breakfast in this town. But I must say that my breakfasts at Friendly's were the absolute best. The eggs were perfectly cooked, as was the bacon. Their fried potatoes with peppers and onions were delectable, and the two thick slices of marble rye toast were an unexpected gift. Waitress kind enough to serve split on two plates, however, most of the chicken was in one half instead of distributed evenly. French fries hot fresh and crisp. As with any other Friendly's location, the food was "A-OK" and very mediocre. What I particularly like about this location was how great the service was: We were seated instantly, and our waitress came up to us in a timely manner to take our drink orders. She then took our food orders whenever we were ready, and checked up on us periodically to make sure we were okay throughout our visit. We ordered the "Chicken Quesadilla" for appetizers, which was quite underwhelming. For my meal, I ordered the "Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich", and my fiance' ordered the "Turkey BLT". The "Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich" was quite tasty, and the chefs truly did not skimp out on the amount of honey mustard placed on the chicken. (There was so much honey mustard that it sometimes oozed out from the bun whenever I picked it up to take a bite.) If you don't like honey mustard, this sandwich is not for you. In addition, if you love BLTs, it is recommended that you get the "Turkey BLT", since the sandwich was tasty and filling. Despite the excellent service, I did not like the lay-out of the seating in the restaurant. As someone else mentioned, there are no dividers and no space between the booths. Thus, if you are in a booth and accidentally lean your head back slightly, your head may collide with the person's in the adjacent booth. So, after eating a lot at this location, one unfortunately cannot lean back in their booth during the intense stages of "food coma". Another thing to point out is that this location does not honor any promotions done by Yelp!. I checked-in on the Yelp! app on my phone and was prompted with the deal of "1 Free Appetizer w/ Purchased Entree". When I brought this to the attention of the waitress and manager, I was told that they do not honor this promotion, and that they only honor the offers given by "BFF". Even though this was somewhat of a buzzkill, I appreciated how the waitress and manager were very respectful. I can see myself coming back here for some ice cream, especially since the customers at the adjacent tables were served some delicious-looking sundaes. Overall, as with any other Friendly's location, the food is mediocre, but most people tend to go to Friendly's for dessert anyway. I would recommend this place to anyone in the Vernon, CT area that is craving ice cream, and possibly an "A-OK" savory meal. read more

I go to this place almost exclusively for ice cream. And must of the times I go for take out. I had something so if their sundaes and I've creams. I like the Royal banana split. After a long time I had this yesterday. To my surprise now it is two scoops. I thought banana split anywhere is there scoops - chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Seems here it is only chocolate and vanilla now. I recommend either putting the third scoop back or provide an option in the menu itself to upgrade to three scoop. I like the Hunka Chunka PB Fudge sundae and shake. Jim Dandy and other large sundaes are big. I generally take it only when I am really hungry or if there is someone I can share with. There is a 12 scoop crowd pleaser which I will take some day. Not sure even two can finish it. From a food perspective they have a ton of junk. Super melts are delicious. It saddens me to see the decline of Friendly's. There is enough value from the brand for people my age and above for a great retro experience that does not exist in its current form. This is my favorite location and my family consistently gets good customer service and a nice meal. Today was no exception. We all got the standard fare of burgers. My patty melt was unusually bad as there was something wrong with the onions. Our ice cream treat was worth it. I'm not sure is this brand will be with us forever without changes. The restaurant used to be private and comfortable to eat in... now with no dividers between booths and tables, including some tables separated by only a wall that comes up less than three feet, it seems like you're eating in a cafeteria or eating your meal with strangers... uncomfortably close and a part of their conversation! If you thought taking the dividers out between rows of booths was a good idea, you got it all wrong. At least stagger the tables so I don't have strangers joining me for my meal. The food is the same, at least that didn't suffer the fate that the dining area did! Horrible starting from the minute I walked in...there is an odor and I cannot pinpoint it but the place just smells dirty. I was seated and placed my order relatively quickly. Waitress was ok but forgot my water and didn't keep up at all with my coffee cup (and they weren't busy). I ordered a low carb breakfast of scrambled egs, bacon and a yogurt parfait. Eggs were ok, a bit rubbery like they were microwaved. Bacon was wafer thin and tasted like it had been pre cooked and warmed. The parfait was disgusting. Rotten banana slices and green grapes. You can't tell me that the fruit wasn't all brown before they put it in the parfait. Table next to me sent back their eggs Bennie because the poached eggs were overcooked (more microwaving issues). Another place to scratch off the list! Recently discovered they have online ordering. Placed an order for dinners for 4. Had my husband pick it up. He got home to discover they had forgotten his dinner salad. Not only that but they forgot all the salads. He was so furious that i had be the one to drive back to ask for them. When I arrived I got a lame excuse about the online system being glitchy. So how did they forget the entree salad as well as the side salads? They got the other entrees and an app right. So I informed the manager that my husband was very unhappy and would probably never sgree to pick up food from them again. She offered me a free cone the next time I came in. Not good enough. It was a 15 minute ride each way. I restated how mad he was and she shrugged it off. So a half hour after my food first arrived at home I returned to find that my cold greasy quesadilla was also burnt black inside. My son told me his burger had also been burned black. Disgusting. Old school atmosphere comfort replaced by discount tacky cookie cutter "mall crap." Not the Friendly atmosphere we expect much the way Howard Johnson's was. Popped in here on a whim while out looking for food. The nostalgia was like a tractor beam! There have definitely been some changes to the Friendly's chain since my last visit. They've clearly made an attempt to modernize a bit, including adding some Ziosks to each table for both handling payment and some pay-to-play video gaming. For a mere 1.99, you can avoid the terrifying prospect of having to socialize with the people at your table! (Or adjoining tables, since there aren't any dividers.) I'm sure some people will miss the old look, but I thought the place looked nice, and it was clean and well-kept. The real surprise, however, was the high level of service. Friendly's had become infamous for poor service, particularly the Elmwood location of my youth, where people would die of old age in their booth before their menus came. Not so at this joint, where our server was rock solid. Our orders were taken quickly and our food arrived sharply, and we even saw our server winning over some grumpy kids at a nearby table to help keep the peace. Gold star for that woman! The food was... fine. It's Friendly's; what can you say? My Fribble was delicious, albeit pricey, and my meal was a perfectly satisfactory salt-and-oil delivery system. The chain has always worked the awkward space between fast food and 'sit down' cuisine, and it still does. Of course, now that fast food "value meals" are teetering towards the ten dollar mark, Friendly's is beginning to look like a bargain. At least you get waited on, and the tables aren't sticky.
