I love Friendly's in Avon. Their breakfasts are delicious and I can get one for $10 that will keep me full until dinner. Servers Jon & Carol are, well, friendly and attentive. They're both smart and funny, as well. Jesse, general manager & also usually the cook on Sundays, is incredibly fast and I never wait when he's at the grill. I don't understand why Friendly's has a bad reputation. The prices are reasonable, there is always a coupon or something available to use, the food is great and the ice cream is a classic. I bet the food is good but the nasty attitude I got from whoever is working there now was awful. (Update) I am pregnant. I had an issue with door dash not getting to friendlys on time and I didn't want old/soggy food so I canceled my order and placed a new one, called friendlys and spoke to the manager who said the order would be made fresh. FIRST OF ALL, my milkshake looks and tastes like old milk. Second, I've never had fries and chicken so stale and cold in my life. Third, the customer service from both a regular associate and the manger was straight TRASH. DO NOT GO HERE! After going to Bradley Airport, we decided to go get a quick lunch, what a mistake. First the restaurant seemed clean, so we ordered our meal. After 30 minutes, we were told our order would be right up. 10 minutes later we got our food. After eating half of my burger, I found a little surprise - a HAIR IN MY FOOD! Bringing this to the waitress attention, she didn't seem like she was suprised, even though I got a new burger, it was cold by the time I got my new order. We always have great service at Friendly's however this time was terrible! The waitress barely acknowledged us and we are not what you would consider "needy" customers. We asked for salt and we were done by the time she came over and she didn't even have the salt lol. But that was not the worst part, my daughter ordered a Fribble and it came..with a long hair in it!! So we waited till she was running by (she had 3 tables) and told her. Our 7 year old niece was up for the day so we let her pick where she wanted to eat. Despite my subliminal suggestions for Chili's she chose Friendly's. As it was a cold rainy Sunday evening it wasn't busy at all. We started catching up with her and hadn't really noticed that time was flying by. Our only clue that anyone else was in the place was that someone named "Donna" was occasionally being called (not her real name) by the manager and hostess who were talking to each other in the front. It would be something like this; "donna"....."Donna"....."DONNA"! We sort of got the impression that Donna was their personal servant in the back. Anyway, we soon realized that it had been 25 minutes since we were seated and no one had come to our table. I went up to the front and mentioned this to the manager -who was still talking to the hostess- and while walking back I heard "donna"..."Donna"..."DONNA!". Yes Donna was the waitress along with other jobs in the back I imagine. It was pretty sad that the manager or hostess could not come over to our table themselves or that they could not keep up on the status of their customers in a practically empty restaurant. Let us hope that "Donna" has found other work. Otherwise it was a typical Friendly restaurant experience. I probably should have given one star but as we were enjoying the company of our neice and weren't in a hurry they earned an extra for comic relief. read more

A little nervous with the closing of the Farmington location but now with the complete remodel, the staff has been moved over which is great to see and the food has been consistent and the service very good. I've only been once, for takeout ice cream. There was hardly anyone there and it took an unusual amount of time to get helped and get out of there. The ice cream was good as per usual. DO NOT EAT HERE! Friendly's is advertising 50% off there breakfast menu Monday through Friday. However, it is not a deal because they over charge for coffee and charge extra for potato's which should be included in the meal. The coffee was $2.39 and tasted horrible, the potato's were $1.99 up charge and my scrambled eggs with cheese looked like they weren't even cooked. The original price for my breakfast was $6.99 the price should be half of that, but with all the extra charges I ended up paying over $7. What a scam and the food was meager to boot. read more

I knew what to expect coming into a Friendly's so the bar was set low, but I needed a kid friendly restaurant stat (other parents of hungry and tired toddlers can understand this urgency). Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed and didn't get to us for a long time. She spilt an entire water on me as she brought it out. I said accidents happen and asked for something to wipe my soaking pants and shirt with and was brought a measly paper towel. Though she apologized a couple times and it was clearly and accident, no comp was given to me. I didn't ask for the manager since it wasn't a big tab, but I'm really surprised since she commented several times on whether on not I was drying off yet. On top of it, another waitress was very rude the patrons next to us stating that she didn't take their order so it's not her fault it didn't come out right and rolling her eyes every time she walked away. I have loved Friendly's for a long time, but their service has plummeted. It's slow, unfriendly, dirty, and here is my latest example: My family and I went to Friendly's Restaurant in Norwood, MA recently and had a terrible experience in almost every way. First, it took about 15-20 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and come take our drink order. When I asked a waitress about it, the waitress was very rude and unfriendly. The funny thing is that it was lunch time, but there were not too many people in the restaurant that day at all. My family was already complaining about how Friendly's was notoriously slow, but this visit was ridiculous. We waited about 1 hour for our food (4 people all simple orders), and again, not super busy. The waitress did not visit the table even once during that time and did not appear to have any people skills or friendly-ness skills, ironically. She didn't come once in the entire meal to ask us about drink refills. She seemed bothered to even stop by. We go out a lot to different restaurants, and this was one of the worst experiences we have had, if not the worst in a long time. The worst waitress we have had too. When the food finally did arrive, it was wrong on multiple accounts. I ordered the crispy chicken breast sandwich, and what I received were three sad chicken fingers on a hamburger bun. I called back the waitress and asked her about it, and she said they ran out of the crispy grilled chicken. Frustrated, I said, "Oh, Really? So, you just give me chicken fingers without telling me you ran out of my meal and without informing me that you were giving me something else? If I wanted chicken fingers, I would have ordered them..." This is the antithesis of not caring. Next, my wife ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch salad with grilled chicken. It was missing the tortilla chips. It was missing the egg. It came with crispy chicken instead of grilled. And, it was the saddest looking salad I've even seen bar none; and this is coming from someone who worked in restaurants for nearly 10 years. There is more, but I think everyone gets the point and would agree that there was no excuse for this disastrous kind of service. So unfriendly. So not interested in serving us. So unprofessional. And, soooo long of a wait for absolutely no reason. I'm sorry, what I said above was not thie antithesis of not caring, but the fact that Friendly's never even acknowledged this email I sent them, that is the antithesis of not caring. I'm always regretful after I go out and eat.. And THEN check the reviews. Yikes!! I've never eaten at a Friendly's, I've only seen them since I have moved from the south to the New England. Seems inviting, who doesn't want to eat somewhere "friendly"?!?! Well... It should be called mediocre's 'cause that's what you get. It was a Sunday at 11 o'clock when my husband and I took our hunger to the red and white Friendly's sign. The host looked lost and not so "friendly" upon our arrival and then took us to our seat. The waitress was great... No problem there. The food? It was left to be desired. We started off with the CYO appetizer which had a chicken quesadilla, mini cheese sticks and loaded waffle fries (don't judge). The cheese sticks were off the hook. The waffle fries were not loaded but came with a side of ketchup, okay whatever we didn't need the extra loaded calories, no harm no foul. The quesadilla... Ohhhh that "quesadilla" was a sad sight. Not only was the quesadilla soggy as a wet diaper, but there was a potato in mine. Just one chunk of potato. Odd, pick it out and put it on the side, no biggie. Then there was some sort of khaki colored liquid encased in the inside with the chicken. Horrid flavor. Scary. It's haunting me already. Onto the salads... My husband got a crispy chicken salad w/ honey mustard I got a honey bbq salad. The lettuce was crispy, veggies seemed fresh and crunchy and the size was just right. I wish I had not ordered the honey bbq chicken (it was just too sweet for my personal taste- my bad) but everything else was pretty good as far as the salad goes. Although it was pretty "okay" I can't say I'll ever be back. I can see why this place is so kid friendly and marketed towards that type because the menu looks like the inventory of a Sysco frozen foods truck. A lot of crap on one menu... So let me preface by saying the food (mine at least) has normally been very good. Like most places, the portions seem to have shrunk a bit over recent years , but did I really need a pound of fries anyway? As someone else has said, you go to Friendly's with certain expectations. Sadly, they are usually all met. While the food has been consistent on a positive, other aspects are consistent too. Like horribly slow service, a mistake on the order/bill and general lack of cleanliness. Long waits for order taking, disappearing help and the long wait for the food are annoying and normal there. Last night my daughter ordered their new Mac & Cheese entree. She was brought mozzarella sticks (I guess the rationale was they are both cheese-centric). After voicing our issue, she was then brought a reheated plate of Kraft-like Mac & Cheese. The waitress said she can bring the right one but we would have to wait "a long time for it". WTF? Get it right the first time! We ended up sharing our meals with her just so we could leave. They took it off the bill, but the experience left a lot to be desired. My son did a build-a-burger and an item was left off. As far as cleanliness, gone are the days of someone else's food all over the floor for hours, but there's still a general dinginess to the place. I'm sure a high volume of little kids makes keeping it clean tougher, but the seemingly unmotivated staff needs to try all that much harder. Have no idea what has happened to the Friendly's in Avon, CT but the service and the food was awful two days ago. We were seated right away and our server came right over. It took 15 minutes to get a beverages. A coffee, water w lemon and a blue rasberry soft drink. We placed our order which was simple, kids grilled cheese w mac & cheese side, cheeseburger sliders w fried and a fish sandwich. Coffee was awful tasted like it was made the day before. We ordered kids menu which they served after nearly 30 mins. The waffle fries were cold and so was the chicken. How could they serve such food to a kid?
