Honestly? Kinda blown away by the Attleboro Friendly's when I visited this week. I haven't been in a few years, and I was pleasantly surprised go to see that both the interior and exterior were gorgeously redone in what I can only call Friendly's Renaissance style. The floors and tables were no longer permanently sticky, and while I had a view of a vacuum cleaner leaning against the wall near my booth, I consider this a major upgrade. Growing up going to Friendly's, I became accustomed to the suuuuuuper long wait time. Every restaurant moves at lightning speed compared to Friendly's. Not anymore!! The food came out so quickly. Perhaps because it was a Wednesday night and there weren't many patrons, but still. It was basically instantaneous (do with that info what you will). I had the fried clam strips with mashed potatoes and corn. It was alright. I wish there was more clam than strip, but I'm dining at Friendly's. I thought the price was really good for a generous portion with two sides. I also got ice cream of course, and I decided on a cup of cookie dough with chocolate sprinkles. There were very few chocolate sprinkles (which cost $0.99) and not that much ice cream. The ice cream itself also wasn't very good. Not very creamy and not many cookie dough pieces. I was disappointed to say the least. Friendly's will always have a special place in my heart, however, and I'm glad this one is still kicking. I was always fond of the hamburger sliders as a kid so maybe those are still great, or perhaps my taste buds have lost their youthful naivety. Friendly's 1995 vs. Friendly's 2023. Total Apples vs. oranges. Totally gone down hill but the ice cream is still great! It's not about the food, it's the environment- aka the facilities. Last year, the bathroom just smelt and I don't mean like let's air if out for a few minutes like constant made me want to vomit! The Friendlys I knew as a kid and a teenager was clean (not squeaky) but taken care of. This place had one table covered in personal belongings and all kinds of reports and such. I watched an employee sit down at said table and have a meal. Now I am not opposed to employees having meals with patrons, it's about one table begin dedicated to being the restaurant office. I also noticed a few holes in the back wall. Made me even question was there a camera in one of the holes? The light fixtures- layers of dust on the inside which patrons can see. Friendly's is a classic and it's sad that so many have closed over the years. Luckily this location in Attleboro is pretty close for me. The food is always good and the ice cream is amazing. I'd say it's the best ice cream of any chain places. Even tho we don't come super often Wendy the waitress remembers us everytime. She knows where we like to sit and honestly even most of our order. If they keep up the strange tactics with seating and high prices, they're probably going to have difficulty staying in business. They had 4 servers on and we requested a booth near the window because all the other booths were occupied except for a dirty booth. So they offered us a table and we declined. They outright refused to allow us to sit in a booth near the window. It certainly wasn't due to staffing, just being difficult apparently. The food was the same as usual except the burgers went up 50%. They should act more friendly like their name implies. Friendly's has been around New England almost forever. The original owners sold the business several years ago and since then it's gone through several peaks and valleys. Lately it seems to me this company is on the right track offering good meals and ice cream treats in a reasonable amount of time after ordering. It's a great place to take the family for quick meal while busy doing other things or the team of young athletes that just played a tough game.
