Goes above and beyond expectations. The food was great - burgers were fresh and big, and the fish sandwich was flavorful and filling. The ambiance is great - a rooftop patio overlooking some shops. They were able to seat our party of ten after a short notice reservation, and our food was here within 20 minutes. The waiter was nice and attentive. Overall I am very impressed with this restaurant. Food was great! The best Buffalo wings I have ever had. The Buffalo sauce was phenomenal with the perfect flavor. Service was good and staff was very friendly. We ordered steak nachos since the burgers were all over 20 dollars, which I would have felt really stupid to spend that much for a burger. The nachos were served in a white, watery, cheese "sauce" which had a strange coconut aftertaste. It wasn't good. Huge miss. The 7-11 pump nacho cheese dispenser from my high school stoner days even beats this stuff. The steak was the highlight and was tender, and the fresh cilantro saved it, but there was zero spice. No salsa. No jalapeños. No pico de gallo. All in all, I was not at all impressed. The server was nice at first but never came back to see if we needed anything else, like, maybe hot sauce for the seriously bland nachos. It took 15 minutes for us to square up after she left the check. It wasn't very full at all. Ambiance has enough potential with a big bar with lots of giant TVs above, and the semi outside layout, but nobody was at the bar until one elderly couple when we left. This place feels like one of those Waikiki rip off theme bars with no happy hour, and too many staff people standing around and crazy tourist trap food prices. read more

The food and service are top notch. Great selection on tap. Cool and comfortable outside covered seating in the middle of Old Town Koloa. Sweet potato fries were just the right crispiness and I got the rum-based bbq sauce to dip them in and it was amazing! Will definitely come back. read more

I attended a private event at Friendly Waves and was super impressed. The crew was friendly and accommodating, and the food was seriously amazing. I love that they don't do chafing dishes for a buffet style set-up but instead kept the hot and fresh food coming. I would definitely recommend Friendly Waves to anyone visiting Kauai. read more

The only issue we had was that we found this place on the last day of our stay! This place was great, the service was amazing and went the extra mile, the food was soooo good, and a plus if there's a game to watch!! Worth every 5 stars, Sampson at the bar was probably the best bar keep we ran into the whole trip! I never leave reviews, and he just made our meals great! Friendly is an understatement. This place has no only the most attentive staff the food, atmosphere, food and drinks are the BEST! We has the special..a smoking rose to drink and an old fashioned. For food, carnitas nachos and Buffalo wings, naked. Yum! The restaurant is on the send floor so you're massaged by the Tradewinds with giant TV screens with various sports. This day football, basketball and tennis. I like tennis while boyfriend loves all sports so we were in heaven. Breakfast is also served here and sounds delicious. Usually reluctant to give a "Great" recommendation however Samson and crew deserve it. The 2nd floor elevation is not a problem as there is an elevator. The menu is very friendly to those with needing gluten free options. I elected to customize my burger and it did not disappoint. The crisscut sweet potato fries were amazing. Most important, the gluten free wings my wife ordered were very good! There is a television for every sport. This restaurant fits very well in the Old Koloa town locale and wish them great success. I just want to say, the servers were absolutely amazing. Gave me and my sisters an above and beyond experience. Menu recommendations, drink recommendations and being so attentive and fun the whole time. Though our experience was amazing, we would like to point out that we were told that the bartender was watching our drink consumption(view attachment for receipt). None of our party was being loud, crazy or acting in a way to get watched. Our server acknowledged that they did not agree with them watching us in that way.This was very upsetting and awkward. we went twice during our stay knowing that a couple people in our party had food allergies. The waitresses were very knowledgeable and couldn't have been more accommodating and made us feel so comfortable. everyone loved their entrees which is why we went back. Only wished we had discovered it earlier in our stay. Go for a great meal (lunch or dinner) when in the Koloa area of Kauai! We'll be back when we visit Kauai next time! read more

Hard to get excited over a salad but the Wedge Salad at Friendly Waves is one of the best you can find. Beautifully presented with a light creamy dressing and blue cheese crumbled on top. Just outstanding. Followed that with the Uptown Burger and the Crispy Chicken sandwich. Both were cooked to perfection. We will go back and probably get the same things. So good. We were enjoying a day exploring Koloa and couldn't have been happier than when we stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. The view was outstanding and the wait staff were fun and friendly. We are a family of 7 with mixed dietary needs (everything from Celiacs to soy allergies to vegetarian needs) but the menu had many delicious choices for all of us! We plan to make Friendly Waves a permanent part of our vacations from now on! It was a wonderful place to enjoy lunch and my husband and I hope to go back for a date night sometime soon! read more

At friendly waves it is really clean.The nachos were not the best so I give the nachos a two star rating because the nachos were cold the cheese sauce was terrible and the chips were a little chewy.The burgers were outstanding because the sauce was really good and the meat was cooked to perfection the onions made it have extra flavor. Really awesome service! Tamar and the other staff were so attentive and on point. Our food came out hot and quick. The beers were super cold, the chicken sandwich was delicious and crispy. So me and my wife stop by for lunch and as we walked in it felt weird, we didn't get acknowledged and when we asked for a table they said no you have to sit on the bar. There's was other tables empty so we asked to sit at another table and we got a no again. We felt that because we are locals they didn't want to give us a table so we walked out I work in the customer service business for 40 plus years and has never been treated this way at any restaurant on this island and also one of the girls even rolled her eyes at us.
