The ring had been appraised at several places over the years, both in Illinois, and in California. I came back at the appointed time and saw three small little red jewels on a work table. He said my ring wasn't ready and to come back. I came back paid for the ring repair and put the ring away. Sometime after I brought the ring to be appraised by a reputable jeweler for a sale. The jeweler tested it and said there were not real rubies in the ring. He was the only person who touched the ring at the only place it was out of my sight. Every bone in my body said that he was a crook, but I was too shy in those days to confront him. I would swear to this under oath.

I found Marin Gold & Silver on Yelp (Thank You, Yelp), and went with some of my family heirlooms and dental metal I'd been hanging on for awhile - I mean, what do you do with this stuff? So after reading some Yelp reviews, I selected Marin Gold & Silver because they had good reviews and were conveniently located in downtown San Rafael, I spoke with Danny before I went in, and he was nice and personable. It seemed just the place to figure out how much my stuff was worth and what to do with it. Danny couldn't have been nicer! He says he pays 80% of the gold price. He has a nifty little machine that gives the item's gold content. With that and a scale, he ascertains a fair price. I had some pieces that were old as dirt (no, really old)! There are many things you could do with it, but Danny was objective and said selling now was better than trying to sell it as "Jewelry" (it was really beaten up) and waiting for a better price would not affect the dollar value significantly to me (or him). He can multi-task as well! In between analyzing my items, he was very knowledgeable in other things such as coins. He explained how the coin process works and gave me some strategies for selling my old coins (at a later time - coin values suck atm). Some pieces I just wanted a value: when I told him I wanted to keep them, there was no further pressure to sell. This guy is a gem! As I was a newbie to the process, I felt like Danny was the right guy! I'm a bit smarter about precious metals now than when I walk in the door, and learned how the market works AND I have a bit more $$ in my pocket because I sold to him! If I had precious metals I needed to have looked at, Marin Gold and Silver in San Rafael is your place. I don't deal too much in precious metals, but if I did, it would be my first stop!
