It's almost embarrassing when people ask me about my jewelry, scarves, hats, sweaters, trays, salad servers, jewelry boxes, handbags, umpteen great tops, down vests, blankets, it's like: "Cheryl's, Cheryl's Cheryl's. The owner has an eye that I'm downright envious of, but I shouldn't be because she has curated a lot of my life! I don't think she even understands how special her selection is and I really appreciate how she supports artisans near and far, and sources from anything but the usual suspects. Whether for yourself or gifts for those you love, what you can find at Modica Home, is not what you'll find around the corner, or everywhere else, which makes gift giving from the store a very special experience. We love this shop!!! We seem to talk about it all the time, so I decided to "yelp" Modica Home. The History: I have friends who job it is to travel the globe looking for "the extraordinary"... On one such trip, my good friend Coco discovered this amazing shop sort of off the beaten path on Union Street in San Francisco She read an article profiling Modica Home and said "Carol Modica's a world renowned home decor expert who has excellent taste, loves what she does and doesn't try to rip of her customers by charging exorbitant prices...she finds gorgeous stuff and charges a reasonable price..." [sic] Since that fateful day, my family (mother, sister, sister-in-law, cousins and friends) shop here for gifts( and for ourselves...) We love everything here, but especially the unique lacquer trays/lazy Susan(s) ...her sister makes them (was written up n the NY Times Home Section)... Fantastic accessories...handbags and laptop totes...artistic and original but still practical...beautiful dishes, amazing real and costume jewelry... Everything I've ever bought from here as a gift has been received with excitement by the recipient. I've never been disappointed. We have friends from all over who ALWAYS make sure they stop in around Thanksgiving to buy Holiday Gifts and to see Carol and her amazing trove of special items... Maybe I came in on two bad days. There are definitely beautiful items carried in this shop but I can't get away of the horrible service. I was looking for a basket to hold hand towels and found a beautiful one in the shop it was a set of three. I picked it up and while walking to the front I was asked abruptly what i was doing with it in a tone harsher then it needed to be. Apparently the item wasn't for sale and was claimed it was used to hold items (nothing was in the basket, they were stacked on top of each other). It was awkward and her delivery could of been handled much better. Whatever the case I will not be coming back. read more

A charming little boutique filled with gift items. The jewelry caught my eye and that's hard to do as I don't wear much of it and am very picky about it. It's an interesting blend of craftsy items, a few retro things and a little bit of luxe thrown in with out it all being overwhelming. read more

My friend was registered here for her wedding last Fall, as they carry lots of Juliska and Match items. I discovered lots of other goodies as well, like paintings from local artists, decorative table-top items made in Europe (not made in China stuff), some lovely scarves & wraps, and cases full of unique new jewelry and vintage jewelry as well. Great place for gifts. The owner Cheryl is very hands-on and helpful (she even does gift wrapping!). She has a great eye for sure! Lots to choose from at different prices.
