IDF Studio and specifically our designer Blaire Schenck transformed our home in 2025. We found IDF online and liked what we saw on their web site. Their interior design work was so tasteful and made such great use of color; it really appealed to us! We contacted them and soon had an initial phone call with the founder and CEO, Kassin Adelman. Soon after, everything started unfolding nicely. I think we contacted them in May last year and the project was 98% finished just before Thanksgiving. Blaire was assigned our project and we had the best time working with her. We wanted work done on the whole interior, except the kitchen and bathrooms. She asked us a lot of questions to get to know us and she and another staff member (Callie) took measurements (tons of measurements) to be used for CAD drawings. We had a few Zoom meetings where Blaire shared initial and then more developed designs with us. We received documents to approve purchases (that they handled). We used their recommended contractor (R5, Emerson Duque) for painting and lighting upgrades, fireplace remodel, new closet doors, etc. The contractor and his team were the best we've ever worked with. Blaire's designs were amazing. So beautiful and fun and unique to us. We are big fans of music and cycling and color and art. Blaire worked these themes into our home so beautifully! Her design and use of our art and photos was spectacular. We have to mention her emails- they were wonderful. So complete and full of ideas and options and explanations. And always kind and positive (and funny!). We went into the project a little unclear as to how much we would need to spend, and also unclear as to the scope of our project. We had an initial budget in mind but wound up going over. However, what we got was so worth it. We have no qualms whatsoever about increasing our budget to get such nice work done. Lara in purchasing was also amazing to work with. Just like Blaire- always helpful and cheerful and responsive. We used IDF for one project which turned out well (commercial space), so decided to try them again for a residential interior design refresh. The whole experience was appallingly bad, from communication to design to pricing to basic customer service. Perhaps the design quality varies widely based on who you work with, but the customer service and pricing issues are inexcusable for the studio overall. Here is just a sample of the issues that we encountered working with IDF: - Our money was not respected. Small, generic, plastic items were selected that were $200+. I assume this was just out of laziness (e.g., buy everything from "nice" stores), but I suppose it could also have been to inflate their own percentage fees. - They never tried to understand our taste. They just surfaced something, and if we didn't like it, we had to pay for each reselect. One or two reselects should be built into the (already very high) price, and indeed is in many other design businesses. It should be expected that a client would not automatically love every single item that is proposed, especially when you don't try to understand the client's own taste first. - We initially signed on with one designer who then left IDF midway through our project. IDF did not seem to hand off any information to the new designer, including items that we had already paid for! So the new designer reselected and had us purchase items (e.g., bookends, trash bins) that we had already bought. And when we pointed this out, they did not refund us the cost of even the reselect time. - Their total fees were 2.5 - 3x higher than they had quoted, even after we significantly downscoped the project (in the end, most of the items they selected were accent pillows). We had multiple discussions with them throughout the process where we noted that we expected fees going forward not to exceed the latest estimate, which they acknowledged and agreed to, and then promptly charged higher fees. - They did not advise us about the implications of changing the color temperature for re-staining the wood floors throughout the whole house. The original color was warm, and we ended up picking up a cool color, which had a huge domino effect on many other large fixtures and furniture in the house. IDF should have called this out as a potential risk. - They did not come to style the home until many months after suggesting purchases, at which point all items were past their return date. - They selected new curtains that were too short for the windows. By the time they came to style the curtains, it was too late to return them. Having curtains that are long enough is *really* design 101, which is why I call this minor issue out specifically. Our current curtains are the appropriate length, so we just kept them, but they didn't refund us the cost of the new curtains (or apologize...). Usually I choose not leave poor yelp reviews, but this experience was so egregious that I felt it was important to warn others who might be considering them. read more

IDF designed our 3500 sq foot office and they were great to work with, especially Pratiksha and Edam and the owner is great too. On our calls usually the first thing said was that they were "under budget and ahead of schedule." They know how to allocate time and resources and are very transparent. If something out of scope comes up they provide options you can use your resources or they can solve this too for X hours it will be projected to resolve. Eg. I had a custom furniture piece I needed made and they were able to not only source the vendor, but do all the leg work ahead to design the piece for my review, I just reviewed and approved couldn't be happier. Never have I worked with creative, talented folks who were also extremely organized and efficient. I plan to use IDF again! read more

We had an excellent experience with IDF, and we have subsequently recommended them to friends, whom they have also served well. We did a medium-sized home remodel in San Francisco with IDF. Being rookies to this process, we didn't even realize until half way through our planning that we needed interior design help -- we thought our architect could do it all. But when it became clear that our architect wouldn't be able to assist with picking materials like faucets, tiles, counters, etc., we reached out to several interior designers. We found IDF to be by far the most professional of any of the firms we interviewed. Edam and his team reviewed our architect's plans and immediately suggested a better arrangement for our kitchen with different placement of a door between the kitchen and dining room than what our architect had originally designed and permitted. We very much agreed with his input. This necessitated a new set of permits from the City, but was a change well worth making. Edam provided a timeline and a budget for their services, and kept to both. The firm is far from inexpensive, but the level of service is excellent. Design proposals were professionally prepared and presented, and feedback was promptly incorporated. We appreciated Edam's decisive and forthright manner and good sense of humor. The sunroom at my place near Sea Cliff was starting to show some wear & tear due to the combination of the sea salt air & neglect. After seeing what Kassin did to one of my associate's place at Jordan Park. I decided to have her give me a quote. Replaced the worn wooden flooring, triple pane tinted windows, bartender style sink & weather proofed all around. I'm now a happy camper. We used Interior Design Fair for several projects in our house and were extremely pleased with all the results. Kassin and her team were incredibly professional, organized, attentive and responsive to all of our project needs from early design to full construction completion. We re-modeled an outdated extension room into an aesthetic yet functional guest room/lounge area. IDF did a great job understanding our design tastes, matching us with a designer that we loved, and helping us realize the perfect room within our budget. We also used their help on a smaller hourly basis to remodel a power room and create updated looks elsewhere in our home. I approached several interior design firms during the early phase of my construction project. Half of them were pleasant but had ridiculously high spending requirements while the other half seemed really smug so I was initially discouraged. I continued my search and stumbled upon IDF Studio, and everything was smooth sailing from there! IDF's website exuded high quality and approachability, and I think it was the company's mission statement that spoke to me (which sadly I no longer remember). I reached out and was scheduled an initial meeting with Kassin (founder/CEO), who I found very personable. Kassin and I discussed the project and she explained what the process entailed, told me that she would pair me with a lead designer who she believed would work well with me. Little did I know Kassin's pairing skills would be on point! A few days after we signed the proposal, my husband and I met with our lead designer, Jaclyn, and associate designer, Ali. We talked to them about what we liked, the style we're going for, budget, expectations, etc. Jaclyn and Ali were both very friendly and good-humored. I especially felt like I was talking to my really close friends during our initial meeting. After they left, I told my husband I liked them already! Jaclyn was my main go-to person throughout the project. It was real fun working with her because she is super talented and has exceptional taste! Whether Jaclyn was presenting a design aesthetic or suggesting which tiles or flooring materials to choose, I always found it difficult to make a decision because all her suggestions always looked good! Given that I was so indecisive and had a limited budget, Jaclyn was always patient with me and was always there to help me make the right decision. I always looked forward to my calls/meetings with her and she really helped keep me grounded so that I continued to enjoy the process instead of become overwhelmed. Jaclyn also had this talent of ensuring you make a decision you would not regret. When I look around our home, I cannot find anything in it I do not love! Jaclyn incorporated all the quirky requests my husband and I had into the aesthetic of our home and created a home that speaks our personality and suits our lifestyle. Ali was a delight to work with. She was always there to help even at a moment's notice. I remember calling her one day because the supplier no longer carried the white countertop we originally selected, so we had to choose another white countertop. There were so many shades of white countertops to choose from, my head was spinning! I was pressed for time and had a deadline so Ali ran down to meet me at the store within the hour so that I could order ASAP! Ali also helped me with the most intricate details of the project ranging from the grout and paint colors to deciding which side the strings of the roman shades should be on! She took care of the smallest details without fail so that I did not have to stress over it! I could go on and on and say many positive things about Jaclyn and Ali but this review will never end! Overall, our project was a complete rebuild of our home which took almost three years to complete starting from the planning phase. Though occasionally hectic and sometimes stressful, I found the process of rebuilding our home to be an educational and really enjoyable experience thanks to IDF! Jaclyn and Ali always meant business and were always so efficient, but still managed to keep the experience fun, productive and light-hearted during stressful times!! I highly recommend IDF!
