One ring contained 7 birthstones and was in really rough shape. Lucas somehow managed to completely restore the ring (a very difficult task) and it looks beautiful and brand new. The second ring was my grandmother's wedding ring. I had a vague idea to use the wedding band to create a new ring to honor my mom and grandmother who have both passed away. Lucas provided great design insights with my idea and produced a beautiful ring that meets what I was looking for while still representing and honoring the original ring. For these reasons, my sister and I decided to speak with Lucas Priolo about dividing the diamonds from our grandmother's antique ring into several pieces so we, our four daughters, and our friends could enjoy them. Our Gram was a very special person, and we wanted symbols of her legacy to live on for generations. We used metal and diamonds from a ring I already owned and created an exact replica of what I had in my mind. Unfortunately Sophia Jewelry has not held their quality like they used to have pre pandemic. They have fixed many items for me in the past and were always great.... The last visit I had left me very angry. Not only did they do bad work, they kept all the extra gold from my rings. When I asked them for the gold back, they had to dig through the extras they had left from previous sizing. And they didn't give me the gold that was from my own rings..... I brought in 4 rings to be sized. They kept all the gold from sizing! And one ring was a brushed gold. They actually polished the ring to a high shine. WHAT!! It was a polished gold.... I had to go back to have it brushed to the matte finish it was before. However, the brushed that they did was uneven and/or not even close to the ring I had before. It will never be the same. I DO NOT recommend this store any more. My thoughts are that they have lost the amazing jeweler they used to have. Their current jeweler is sub par.... read more

Lucas was so helpful and so kind. I brought my wedding ring here on a whim. I had done a quick Yelp search for a jeweler/jewelry repair in the area. The main diamond was a little loose. The jeweler was able to tighten the prongs and clean my ring! No appointment, 20 minutes before closing time, done in under 6 minutes and these gentlemen were so helpful. When we got engaged last year, we knew we didn't want a traditional engagement and wedding ring combination. We wanted a jeweler to make something unique for us. Carl Priolo designed and custom crafted our ring over the course of two months, and the result is nothing short of amazing. We came to him with four diamond baguettes and a few round stones from another family ring, and some general design ideas. Together with a purchased purple Sapphire, he creatively sketched a wide band design. Once we were happy with the design, he molded it carefully in wax. This gave us a chance to look at the design before moving on to the more immutable white gold ring. It was very comforting to have the opportunity to discuss the ring at this early stage. The ring was a work in progress. Confirming the width of the ring and placement of all the stones, we decided together with Carl to add a few extra diamonds to give the ring a balanced look. Not only is Carl an incredible craftsman, but he is also artistically very creative. We knew that by giving he and Sue suggestions about what we wanted the ring to look like, they would steer us in the direction of something classy yet unmatchable. We now have a very unique, heirloom piece that we're thrilled with. We also have a silver bracelet and silver hair clips made by Carl - and we could not recommend the Priolo's work more. I had often walked by and admired the jewelry in the window, but had never come into Sofia Jewelry before. A few weeks ago I finally did go in, hoping to find help designing a new setting for my engagement ring. I had an idea, and they were able to help refine it and bring it to life. Lucas really listened to my concerns and desires, and translated it all to their designer beautifully. I even got to preview the ring design in CAD prior to its creation and see it from all angles, which was a nice surprise. I have to say that I am SO pleased with the result! The diamond shines brilliantly, it sits lower (exactly what I wanted), and it fits beautifully against my wedding band. While the price tag for the custom design was not cheap, for a piece of jewelry that I wear every day and means so much to me, I was happy to pay a bit more. The customer service experience and the final result were definitely worth it. read more

My husband discovered Sofia many years (going on decades?) ago for my Christmas, birthday and anniversary gifts. All of the pieces he gave me were beautifully crafted of fine materials and original. Even unique. But the best experience was the creation Carl Priolo came up with for our daughter's 21st birthday. Carl worked with me very attentively to come up with a delicate necklace and earring set designed incorporating all of my daughter's baby teeth. It is an Exquisite creation, and very well crafted. He suspended the teeth in tears of resin to protect them and enhance the design. He finished it well within the time frame to make it a perfect 21st birthday gift. Carl and Lucas worked with us to design the perfect wedding ring. We couldn't be happier: It. Is. Stunning. We came to Sofia with two heirloom rings- one from each of our families. Taking a diamond from each of those pieces, Carl helped us source the perfect, most lively, deep blue, cushion-cut sapphire I've ever seen. We worked together to design and build a perfect setting (with an intricate filigree and 12 tiny side diamonds) to accommodate the three stones. Even when the ring was complete, I thought to add a bit more milgrain- which they did without hesitation (or additional cost). The production time and cost were beyond reasonable and the final product is an INCREDIBLE work of art that- despite my normal aversion to jewelry- I never want to take off. The folks at Sofia really know their stuff and I'd trust them with the most precious of pieces. I've since visited Sofia for repairs to a pearl necklace (for restringing), an antique bracelet (for a new clasp), and my engagement ring (for resizing...twice...)- all of which were done with care, speed, and plenty of communication along the way. Workmanship aside, the family is a pleasure to know and be in touch with, and the store is charming. Pay them a visit (and I'll probably see you there)! read more

My wife lost her wedding band, and it was a custom ring from a designer in New York that was no longer in business. We came into the shop to get the ring remade and felt totally taken care of throughout the whole process. Carl was able to remake the the ring almost exactly, just off of one photo that we had of the original ring. We went to Mill Valley while on a business trip to San Francisco and stopped in at Sophia Jewelry. We saw a couple of pieces in the window and the owner got them out to show us. While we were checking them out, she noticed one of my rings and said she thought her husband had made it. We bought the ring in Aspen in 1979. She took a picture of it and her husband identified it as the 5th ring he ever made. I get so many compliments on the ring and it is my favorite. The entire staff at Sofia Jewelry are so helpful, I can't say enough positive things about them. I needed to have two rings cleaned, one of which was had some strange tarnish on one spot. The job they did on both rings was terrific, and one of them required re-oxidization and buffing after cleaning (which was my fault) - which they did for free.
