I want to eat here with my family while in College Station and really look forward to the food and drinks based off of the reviews. I did order a lemonade with Malibu Rum which was very light and refreshing. The server was very nice and kind and very attentive to our table. I ordered the barbacoa and it is a very large portion. I think that it could easily feed four people. It was moist but really didn't have any seasoning or flavor. I ordered additional sides in an attempt to improve the taste but it did not succeed. My daughter got the beef and cheese quesadillas and they too lacked some flavor/seasoning. Overall the service and the restaurant looked very nice and was decorated quite well but the food just didn't add up for me. read more

I visited College Station recently to run an errand in town. I'm not usually in the area, but I looked up Tex Mex on my way down, because my favorite college memories of course revolve around the glorious Tex Mex I used to have in downtown Bryan at a family owned establishment that isn't around anymore. I decided to try out Frida's because they featured mole on the menu. Oh*my*wow, this is maybe the BEST Mexican food I have had in my life! Great authentic Mexican food! First of all, the yummy chips with green & red salsas & black bean w white fresco cheese dip was really good but loved the black beans the most. I guess no refills on that. Request for more was either ignored or forgotten-it was a party of 5. So I'm guessing 1 per table but we were okay as food plates were plenty. As an appetizer, we ordered the guacamole with chicharones-so yummy with beautiful presentation! Finally, I had the mole with a Mexican coke! It was more on the spicy side so I mixed in my rice which was ok. My family also ordered both the chicken and beef fajitas and salmon w veggies and chorizo breakfast! Everyone really enjoyed all the food! The place is small and tight so people can listen to your conversations-an anglo lady next to us didn't like that I spoke Spanish -said I should only speak English. I did not pay attention to her. I totally ignored her as I knew with her look that she did not like being seated close to us. I'm a bilingual U.S. citizen-and retired bilingual teacher. Please don't go to a Mexican restaurant and expect that we all only speak English! I don't care that English is the official language but you shouldn't eat at Mexican restaurants and think you can police the place! I did not let them ruined my lunch! Friday's Kitchen + Bar is gem! Whether you're a meat eater or prefer a plant based diet, everyone will find something they like on the menu! The ambiance is wonderful. The food, gorgeously plated & absolutely delicious. The friendly wait staff is knowledgeable of the menu and always happy to answer any questions about the menu. I truly appreciate how vegans and vegetarians have some food options to choose from! Of course, the staple rice and beans are INCREDIBLE and friendly for those on a plant based diet. But that's not all -- there's some exciting options on the menu! (The menu notes all of the options that are vegetarian.). I've enjoyed the beet salad for something lighter, and the tlacoyos when I wanted something heavier. I would like to note that on the kid's menu doesn't include a vegetarian option BUT they're happy to make a GREAT cheese quesadilla! Of course, there's lots of great options if you eat meat -- the omnivore in my family has been thrilled with the options he's tried. He gives both the carne asada tacos and birria tacos two thumbs up! Upon being seated, you'll start out with complimentary chips, a red sauce, a green sauce and beans for dipping. To add something special to your meal, I'd suggest trying the street corn as an appetizer and the El Cielo for dessert! A hidden gem! They have my favorite coffee Cafe de Olla and that immediately made me excited in top of the adorable Frida decor. The chips are homemade the way they should be, the tomatillo sauce was delicious, all our meals were delicious with ample portions. We did not try any bar drinks but they sounded great. We had a great experience at Fridas. They were full inside and we opted to sit outside on the patio. We were concerned as many times in this situation you end up getting ignored. Not the case. We received excellent service. We received excellent menu suggestions and with only 2 of us we will have to come back again to try other option on our list. We ordered typical frozen margaritas. They were hardly typical in taste or looks. From the first sip you could taste the top shell quality and the presentation we nice as well. Cut class, with not sure if it was grilled or dried lime slice but is was a nice change from the ones that are in the tub that every waiter has dug their hands in all day long. The street corn was excellent and will probably get that every time we come back. We also got 2 other dishes that were equally as good and unique, one was stuffed Poblano pepper and the other weee enchiladas. Bathrooms were nicely detailed and very clean as well as the entire establishment. Everything was plated by an artists touch. This establishment truly want this to be a special experience. You won't have anything but a great experience here. We came here based on yelp reviews because we were just passing through town on our way home and yelp reviews didn't steer us wrong. You have to get the horchata - it was delicious! Refills were $2, which isn't terrible. The Limonada was carbonated and mild in flavor. The street corn was great minus the fact that you have to eat around the core. The ceviche trio was good, but I didn't like the mango habanero ceviche. I think the ceviche dishes would benefit from more lime and salt, but we added that ourselves. The enchiladas were nothing special, but they were still good. The churro waffles tasted exactly like a churro, plus it came with dulce de leche! The birria tacos were perfect! I could have drank the consommé by itself! Lastly, the service was great! I love Frida's. The food is so delicious. In my opinion, it's reminiscent of "Mexican" food (rather than the more common "Tex-Mex" cuisine). I have tried the pasta poblana (so delicious, it tastes homemade and perfectly nostalgic) and the carnitas tacos (so flavorful!) and the tinga tostadas (also good!). The place is super cute, full of Frida decor. The service is great too. Overall, this is a true gem in the Bryan/College Station area. Frida's is incredible. I have been to brunch and dinner there and both were outstanding, authentic Mexican cuisine. Their salsas and sauces really make their dishes stand out above similar restaurants. The mole is by far the best I have had in the BCS area. The margarita Fresca off the cocktail menu is definitely worth ordering as well. The decor and murals are beautiful and done by an artist from Houston I was told. My expectations for this place were high-- several friends were ranting about "Frida's this" and "Frida's that"-- and high expectations can be unfair, but this place delivers... I was immediately struck by the attention to detail. The decor, the ambience, the home made chips and salsa, the cocktails made from fresh fruit. I was blown away before the food even came out. The service was kind and attentive. Happy hour margaritas are superb. If you are looking for boring mexican food, this isn't the place. I had the chicken tinga tostadas, and my wife had the sweet potato tacos. Both were excellent. Pickled onions were on point. The only slight downer (and it wasn't enough to keep from a 5* review) was my wife's mescalita was too sweet. Alas, she switched back to the margarita, and all was well. I will definitely be back, and I will definitely be ranting to my friends about "Frida's this" and "Frida's that". Great addition to the BCS food scene. read more
