Popped into Freytag's Florist to look for some flowers for the senior ladies at Atria independent living center. I plan to stop by to visit them tomorrow and wanted to bring them flowers as a Mother's Day treat. They had an assortment of floral selections variegated carnations, roses, peonies, azaleas, to name just a few. One steam ranged from $1.25 upwards. For the quality of their flowers, that was a very good price. I will pop back by tomorrow to pick the freshest ones before my visit. My mother is no longer living. During Mother's Day I try to remember other mothers because to have your mom is such a huge blessing. The senior ladies at Atria are like an extension of my own family. When you do thoughtful for things for them, they just light up, which is heartwarming. read more

I totally procrastinated on sending my sister birthday flowers and ended up panicking the morning of at 8:30 a.m. I found Freytag's online and placed an order for delivery to Dell Seton Hospital. I recently had a death in my close family, and my caring coworkers sent me a beautiful spathiphyllum plant (a peace lily) from Freytag's Florist. The plant was in a gorgeous white pot when it was delivered to my home and made my day to receive it. I was googling how to best care for my new peace lily and the kind of water and lighting it needed. I learned then that they are actually toxic to dogs. One of my dogs is a certified goat who loves to get into any bush or plant, so I was worried if a leaf fell when I was at work, she might try to eat it. I called Freytag's to ask about doing a possible exchange to a non-toxic plant. I spoke with Alice on the phone, who was very understanding and sent condolences for my loss. Alice noted that many florist plants can be toxic to dogs and cats, and I asked about a few from their website that I had identified as possible exchanges. I selected a bromeliad as the best, non-toxic option, and I went in this week to exchange it. The staff on site were so helpful and understanding as well, and they directed me to the bromeliads as well as a few other options I could consider like succulents or a money tree. I selected a beautiful red bromeliad, and I was able to keep the beautiful white pot my coworkers got me. Now every time I see the bromeliad on a tall shelf in my office, I will think of my generous coworkers, my relative who passed, and the kindness of Freytag's Florist staff. They have a future customer in me! PS: The shop has a room with amazing roses to pick up your own bouquet (currently priced at $14.99 a dozen), beautiful succulents with theme arrangements like Halloween, and thoughtful staff. This has been my only "go-to" for over 12 years. They always have an amazing selection of flowers making some of the best arrangements. I usually leave everything to them. I can give them my idea and they take it from there. They have moderate pricing but you get more than what you pay for. Delivery has always been on time. These are not just bouquets they are are works of art. I have yet to be disappointed by anything I have sent from here. UPDATED TO INCLUDE A REPLY FROM THE OWNER/MANAGER: 09/22:I received a kind reply and a refund and was very pleased with his apology/assurance. It wasn't a good experience, but next time I will try an online order because my previous gifts from Freytag's Florist have been absolutely gorgeous and stayed looking bright and fresh for days! I forgot to add...They have a HUGE selection of plants and I really want to go back and grab a few I noticed while inside their shop...great pricing on the plants, too! Wanted to give a dear friend a bouquet for her birthday today...went to four HEB stores looking for pink flowers for my pink-loving friend. Found nothing that was special. Then, I remembered I'd received several bouquets from a few of my customers that were lovely and lasted a long time from Freytag's Florist! Light bulb! I headed straight for their shop on Anderson. As I drove in, I noticed a billboard that said 50% off cash and carry plants. Knowing she loved a certain plant, I thought, I'd get a bargain perhaps. Actually excited to go inside this shop that I have admired, I bopped happily inside. I greeted the woman behind the counter and told her I'd been a recipient many times, but never a customer, and went on to tell her I was a fan and had just recommended her florist shop to a person on Reddit, from Poland, who was looking for a local Austin florist for his local girlfriend in ATX just yesterday! She replied, "go on inside the cooler room, and as soon as I help this man, I can help you." The man she was referring to was walking toward her counter, so it wasn't like I had interrupted her or him. In hindsight, I should have left at that moment! Instead, I asked if she might have the plant I was looking for, but none were in stock there. I planned to buy the plant AND a pink bouquet. Went into the cooler room and most of the flowers were pretty wilted, not all, but most. Came back out and asked her "Can you just prepare a nice bouquet...in fact, I'd like to give her a pink extravaganza!" She asked how much I wanted to spend and I shrugged and said $50 maybe? I wasn't sure, but I know you can get a great bouquet at HEB for $50, so I thought it would be nice. While she was prepping the flowers in a back room, I walked around talking to her but I suppose she didn't want to talk? She comes out with all the pink flowers wrapped in only paper with a ribbon. I was shocked because I was expecting a vase, greenery, ribbon, etc. (based on my prior experience as a recipient). She told me "walk-ins" don't get a vase or greenery unless they pay extra...OK, sure, I'll pay extra for a vase and greenery. She grabs a vase and greenery and tells me she's not allowed to arrange the flowers. What? After paying for the "extras" I attempted to put them into the vase and they looked awful (that's why I came to a floral shop for a professional arrangement). I told her that they were awful and asked for help. She told me the 1/2 price flowers were too long and that I should have told her I wanted all the extras! Perhaps she should have told ME that I was buying discount flowers (I never asked for that), in fact, the 50% off billboard referred to PLANTS, not flowers. When a customer comes into your shop and tells you she's been a long-time fan (as a recipient), but a first-time customer, and that she just raved about your store and referred you to someone in Poland yesterday, perhaps you should offer better service. I NEVER asked for discount flowers and if spending $50 was too little, she could have suggested something else, especially when my request was "a pink extravaganza!" She went on to tell me that most of her customers go home and use their own vases and "put the flowers together themselves!" If I wanted that, I'd have done the HEB thing, but my skills aren't that great! Leaving with my head hanging and shoulders down, I was so disappointed. I told her the flowers looked wilted and she told me all "stock looks like that (whatever that means)." She did switch out the pink roses for better ones, but I didn't want a discount bouquet and would have gladly spent $200 to get the "pink extravaganza" I went in for. She was short with me, curt, and never returned my enthusiasm. I tried arranging the flowers and did a horrible job. I tossed them, went to another local shop, and spent $98 for a knock-out bouquet. Guess what, it came with a lovely pink bouquet, silky ribbon, greenery, a card, and the best smile and friendliest service I've encountered in ages! First and last trip to Freytag's. Beware, to all walk-ins, the florists are not allowed to make floral arrangements! Also, ask for someone other than the tattooed girl with the nose ring to assist you and you might not leave so disappointed and waste half a day on this nonsense. Maybe she was having a bad day...guess what? I am too, NOW! Yikes! Top 5 worst florists I have ever gotten flowers from. They sent dead, wilted, out of season flowers for $85. A total of 75% fluff greenery, 3 roses, two dead orchids, and two dead accent flowers. Called to ask for a replacement of live flowers, and was offered basically the exact same bouquet. First they said it was ordered as artist choice, then said it was specifically ordered as that bouquet. Could not get a straight answer from them on what happened. Ended up having to ask them to simply refund the sender and come pick up the trash flowers. I would not recommend them to anyone in the area. 90% of the items are filled with GREEN FLUFF rather than actual florals. read more

For those who (don't live in Austin and) want to send someone flowers in Austin same day, this is the place to do it. I called Freytag's and within three minutes they took down my order, took down my note for the card, and accepted my payment. (It's actually even more convenient than UrbanStems or 1800 Flowers, etc.) The prices are super reasonable and they charge $12 flat rate for local delivery. They delivered before 6pm CT (as promised) and even emailed me a receipt with delivery confirmation. The flowers were vibrant and beautiful. I went to Freytag's this morning to purchase flowers or a plant for a coworker who's going through a difficult time. Unfortunately I encountered crappy customer service, not only by the counter attendant but the Manager as well. I was trying to use my Allstate reward points for a coupon/discount and after selecting my item and asking whether the coupon applied to it, I got a response of I don't know I've never seen that before. I go on to explain what it is and that it's not through some obscure car insurance company. She continues to be dismissive and unhelpful with saying where we always mark things half off when you come in. I ask if the coupon them means I get an additional discount since I'm using 500 points to redeem it. She repeats the same point so I then ask her to check with a manager. She goes in the back and within seconds returns saying it's just an advertisement. I tell her that doesn't make sense given she's telling me I could get that discount without me giving up Allstate reward points. She tells me to take it up with Allstate to which I respond, "well Freytag's agreed to these discounts." I end the frustrating transaction by asking to speak with the manager because I'm confident she didn't explain things accurately to her and she quickly tells me she's busy. No offer to give me her contact info or wait. I then request contact info. I still purchased the item without using my rewards because thankfully I decided to wait to hit "redeem" until there. My main gripe is the customer service although not being able to use the rewards someone at Freytag's set up with the Allstate Rewards program was the icing on the stale cake. read more
