There is nothing bad to say about this place. Honestly, the food is very delicious. You can't compare this spot to any other Mongolian food here in the valley. There is also a sign that explains how to serve yourself. One bowl is for chicken, beef and veggies the other bowl is for only noodles and sauces. You can stuff your plate as much as you want without shame. The owner is not greedy. He is also very helpful and a nice guy so for anyone that complains about this place take yourself to panda express where they serve you what they want and how much they want for the same price. Not good, but not bad- just weird This place was okay. I only found two chunks of grill debris. The rice was dry and had obviously been cooked earlier that day. Decent selection of ingredients, but I've seen better. The weird part was that there was only one employee, a young, Eastern European man, who kept leaving the restaurant whenever he wasn't actively cooking or running the register. It was very strange that he would just leave us alone in the establishment to go outside and talk on the phone. And I'm not saying just on the patio- he would walk down the block. I have one feeling after my experience here and it's regret. Clearly, this place has deteriorated A LOT. It's nothing like the juicy photos available on the page anymore. No teriyaki chicken, no burger, no Styrofoam containers and no smiles. It's costly for what you get and nothing like the reviews from a few months back (even back in Dec 2024). This page has been recommended to me for so many months, I finally decided to take some time and try it out. Pictures, reviews from last year and the concept seemed really great, so I thought I'd go. There were a few warning signs from the handful of 1 star reviews that this place had deteriorated, but I was just hoping they were based off individuals who had unlucky experiences. Poor decision on my end for trying this place out anyways. Pros, this place has a huge parking lot. It's shared with a strip mall, but you can park there and walk right up to the store. Cons, everything else. It's pretty messy and dirty inside, and I almost wanted to walk out the moment I walked in. Then there's a menu that's outdated. The cook at the time just said, make yourself a plate by making two bowls because there's no point in looking at the options in the menu... That should have been my red flag. They have handwritten instructions on what to do. One bowl for meat and veggies and another for noodles. By the way, I was confused when I went because there were no meats. Like that meat section was bare clean. I also saw some previous photos of some fried rice, but that also wasn't an option for me. When I brought up my two bowls, he said, don't you want meat? I said, there was none... can I get chicken? Man brings out the blandest, driest chicken slices I've seen in a while. It's not like the chicken teriyaki you see in the photos anymore. That sad plate I got after he finished cooking turned out to be $17. Just not worth it. The plate was a plastic container that lets heat escape. It's actually hard to hold onto the container because it's like you're touching something that's freshly off a grill with your bare hands. Imagine having boiling coffee in a plastic water cup. Similar concept. They moved away from Styrofoam which makes very little sense to me. And the mess this things makes. Yikes! I asked for a to-go bag because I was not about to finish this as is or at the restaurant and the guy's almost resistant about giving me a bag. By the time I get home, I tossed as soon as possible because it had a puddle of liquid at the bottom enough to fill up a bottle of honey. The food tasted bad. I realized just how much I had to elevate the flavors to make it palatable and just how small the portions were (I didn't risk overfilling the bowls because there was a whole thing about an unquantified surcharge on there). Maybe I just didn't build it right, but the flavors didn't come together in a way that made me want to come back. On the positive side, the value is excellent. I used to come here more frequently, but I moved further away. I happened to be passing through the neighborhood, so I stopped by and wow this place is a straight up scam now. I filled up a normal bowl, and the worker split it into two containers and charged me $20+ for the whole thing when it was completely unnecessary lol. The first container wasn't completely full, and the second container barely had any food in it. I paid for it out of pity cause the new worker was super young, and I assume the owner is training this kid to do exactly this, but yeah. Never again. This place is on its last legs. Bean sprouts, broccoli, jalapeño, raw eggs that you can get and he will cook it for you, cilantro just to name a few. Different sauces, and on top of the display you can follow their suggestions and made sauce to your taste - from spicy to mild and moderate. Here is my breakdown of this place: Location & Parking: Located across Los Angeles Valley College, Mongolian BBQ & Grill is a small and very hidden "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant meaning you sometimes may be the only customer there. It is located in a plaza on a corner and parking is always available. Service Experience: Once inside, the owner greets you creating a welcoming atmosphere. He's attentive and helpful, particularly in refilling requested meats promptly. The restaurant follows a "Do It Yourself" concept where customers assemble their 2 bowls with a selection of meats, vegetables, noodles, and sauces. I usually see the owner most of the time when I'm there but all the staff are friendly (they have never been rude to me) and willing to offer guidance if needed for those who are new to the place. Note that additional charges apply for overfilled or more than 2 bowls. There is also a nearby hand sanitizer to sanitize your hands before and after handling tongs since they can be a little greasy. Menu and Food Selection: The restaurant's format allows customers to choose their preferred ingredients, providing clear instructions displayed above the selection bar. We go in and the lone worker is chatting with his friend. The meat section only has a few slices of each type of meat left, and they look like they've been sitting out for a while. Some of the veggies look fresh while others look spotted and unclean. We got a lot and scarfed down our first few bites because we were hungry, commenting on how cheap it was - $12.99 plus tax. But after those first few bites, we realized some of the meat tasted sour, and I ended up spitting out a few bites. We threw away almost half, and we're worried might get sick from what we did eat. I feel really sad to write this review because before this visit, I used to come here many times for mongolian bbq. But, sadly this visit on Thursday, 7/13/2023 was not like the previous times. During this visit, there was only 1 man handling the entire restaurant. There was no meats in the selection area, so he went to go get some chicken which is what I requested. And it felt very off. Half of the chicken he brought out was already soft and thawed out and the other half was frozen. Which I have never seen before, EVER at any mongolian bbq place. At first I was like, "Okay, it's whatever. That's just a first." But, then I found a strand of hair in the chicken. When I told him about it, he was like, "Some customer put that hair there. I didn't do that." Luckily, he replaced the chicken, but the vibes were off and I was already feeling uncomfortable. After he did my order, other customers came in and I legit saw him cooking his food in a separate cooking station underneath the grill while he was cooking for the customers. And he was also, using his fingers to taste the food he was cooking for himself. I was so surprised! But, added to that, he did not wash his hands in between handling transactions at the register and cooking the Mongolian bbq for the customers. This is so disgusting and unsanitary! When I was leaving, I saw him still cooking his food. But, this time, he put his tortillas on the big circular mongolian bbq grill as well! And he was using his fingers (his hands are not washed) to flip the tortillas! I am so appalled and disgusted with everything I saw during this visit. I get that he was the only employee in the entire restaurant, but please be more sanitary, aware of your food handling, and close down for 30 minutes for your lunch! If you're the owner, please find a different person to handle the restaurant when you're not physically present. What happened to this place? The last time i was here was over a year ago and it was great. I can't remember the last time I wrote a yelp review but wow was this the most bizarre experience ever. Walked into a dark ghost town... there were barely any ingredients in the prep station and whatever was there looked old and wilted. Got yelled at by the employee for asking for what was missing. He proceeded to make me the most overcooked and sad looking plate I've ever had. It smelled even worse than it tasted and the ingredients had definitely gone bad.
