Fresco Mexican Grill is a hit & miss with me. I've tried it several times and the quality consistency is just not always there. During my last visit after a concert, my family and I decided we wanted a late dinner. It was around midnight on a Saturday night but not too busy. The lobby was loud and music was playing which was nice. The guy at the counter was rude and seemed annoyed at people asking him for extra salsa or other things behind the counter. I opted for a chicken quesadilla which was delicious and was a decent portion, enough for me to take leftovers home. The salsa was ok and nothing to write home about. What really left me in a "meh" state of mind was the rude guy at the counter so it will probably be a while before I come back. read more

I'm always a fan of Mexican drive thru restaurants and I found this one while driving on the 99fwy through Bakersfield. However the location wasn't great because it wasn't super close to the freeway and it took a long time to get my food. The bean and cheese burrito was really good and cheesy. However the shrimp tacos and fish tacos weren't great. They didn't taste fresh and were bizarre. The weirdest thing about the tacos is that they didn't have the normal fish taco sauce nor did they have salsa = they put Ranch Dressing on the tacos! Like literally Ranch dressing! Sooo weird!!! They even doubled down and had multiple flavors of ranch dressing - I tried a few flavors but the combination of ranch dressing on the tacos was disgusting. OMG! Soooo good! I had two of their shrimp tacos today. Simply Scrumptious! The price is $5.49 per shrimp or fish taco, which is about the going rate anywhere now. My food came out quickly. The staff is polite and efficient. The restaurant is well maintained. The taco begins with a double corn tortilla. Then some sautéed veggies, 4 large shrimp per taco. Topped with fresh crunchy cabbage, homemade ranch dressing & pico de gallo. The portions are very generous and tasty. I was wanting two tacos de asada :( the asada are the size of steak bites. That's all I have to say.

#1 We ordered, our first time at this location through door dash. The cashier did not have great customer service. My bf asked for extra salsa the guy sharply repli that its all "rationed" and he would have to charge extra, (we have no problem paying as the order itself was pretty steep for quality of the 3 items) my bf jokingly replied and said oh you charge extra thats a first. And the guy once again sharply replied "thts all businesses dude" and the attitude was what caught us off guard once he continued with it. So I said ok "hey it's the first time he was just making a statement," he then walks to the back and starts telling his coworkers that he was upset csuse he was charging him extra (seemed to be intentionally speaking loud so we can hear) i waited at the counter to go ahead and purchase the salsa. And he comes out and says once again "hes upset because im charging" I respectfully replied to " no friend it's your approach and tone with us" And my bf told me not to worry about it he was going to leave a review. Guy jumps in and says "I could care less about what you guys have to say on there those reviews wont affect me I get them all the time." #2 we finally we got home and started eating the 2 Enchilada Plate and there was just straight globs of cold cheese in the enchiladas, and the rice was hard and stale. I myself can't risk eating rice that has been left to sit out due to the bacteria that rapidly grows on there. We love supporting local businesses as I had worked at a small business for 5 years and for the simple fact that they offer vegetarian options this is why we chose this place. I never had any encounters with my customers like this tonight. Which was def a bummer, because even if the food wasnt great we would have loved to try again but with the vibes and energy that were thrown our way we will not be going back. I always offer to pay for extra sauce and I am repeatedly told I can only have 4 hot sauces when I'm willing to pay for one more and have a total of 5, how much must I pay?! This has happen 5 times! And today I can't drive back, and my food will be wasted! Customer unsatisfied and food unsatisfactory. If I'm willing to pay for 5 sauces why can't I receive it, again this is the 5th time this has happened, California and Chester, at different times of day. Majority of the time great service, but 5 times unsatisfactory because I offer to pay for additional sauce and they refuse to give it to me. And I waiting 20 minutes today and won't be able to enjoy my entire meal. The time is not the issue that lack of sauce and customer service as a result is the problem. read more

What a lovely surprise! After a long day at the office, I was heading to grab an early dinner (had skipped lunch due to work) before the long drive back up north. Fully intending on just grabbing fast food before getting out of the 661 area code, I saw this screaming sign of $1 chicken taco every day. I did NOT believe this could be real, so a quick u-turn popped me into the parking lot. A police car was next to me so it was a good sign. LEOs know where the good food are. I had ordered three chicken, one al pastor, one carne asada, and a small soda. Everything with tax was only $10.50. Tacos tasted AWESOME! The chicken was flavorful and juicy. The pastor was appropriate seasoning and texture. The asada was lean and plenty. This place needs to be more crowded than it is now, on a Thursday late afternoon. What a nice surprise and treat to have run into this place. Keep up the excellent work and thank you for keeping the costs affordable, especially given the inflation craziness these days. I first tasted their food at a work event when they catered and it was "okay" for me. Maybe because the food has been sitting for awhile and it was not as newly cooked as I wanted it to be. However, the actual dining experience in their physical restaurant was way better. The restaurant look and ambiance are not as fresh as the other new Mexican restaurants and there is no free appetizer, but the taste of their food makes up for those. The shrimp taco that I had was so flavorful, I just kept on eating it. You know that feeling that you are already full but you love the taste that is left in your mouth so you still keep on having one bite after the other? It was like that. The orders take quite a long time to be ready but one can be assured that their food is not simply reheated before serving. I did not care for this place very much before but now I will not go again. Why did I go again, well, it was almost 12 at night, I was hungry, and this joint was open. I spent $12.98 for an asada burrito. This place is affiliated with the meat market next door, but my asada burrito was made with stew meat or some similar cut of beef. It was not asada, no fucking way. How do I know? I have eaten asada burritos all over California-none of them have beef like this place. Ordered the regular sized bean and cheese burritos, when I got home, I realized they were smaller than the ones I usually get. I didn't have a car to make my way back, so I called them and they're saying I had to wait till I can bring the food down before they could offer to remake it. I told them the soonest I can come in was tomorrow and the supervisor said that's not his problem. He also argued with me about the size of the burritos, so I told him I don't even want the food anymore just a refund. He said fine bring the food and I can get the refund. I hung up on him, but my 8 year old daughter was starving and said she wanted to eat her burrito. She had ate most of the burrito when found a piece of onion in the burrito which she hates and it ruined her appetite so I called them back and told them this and he again wanted to argue on the fact that she ate most of the burrito before she found the onion, and told me there was nothing he can do. I pleaded my case to him that the service wasn't the best and he hung up on me. I called him back and he said he couldn't go back and forth with me that I needed to talk to the manager. That's when I said well I thought you were the supervisor/manager. He said no I'm just a supervisor, so I said you should've told me that from the get instead of wasting my time if he can't even make executive decisions like that. He hung up again. The plantain plate is the only reason I visited. The plantains, beans, and eggs were delicious and filling. The rice was okay, I didn't really care for it but it wasn't bad. Maybe a tad bit flavorless? I checked in for the free guacamole & chips. Chips were very slightly salted and the guacamole had so much tomato and onion so I didn't care for it at all. I was truly disappointed in it. They do have salsa which tastes better. I tasted the green one in particular and loved the light kick it had to it. The consistency didn't lack.
