This place is amazing! My husband and I came for the first time and we loved it. Appetizer was a torre 7 marisco ceviche. I got the chicken and shrimp spicy chipotle meal. AMAZINGG. Pretty good Mexican restaurant that I went to for a Friday lunch .Had a carnitas taco which tasted good accompanied by good beans.The pork was a bit ovecooked and could have been moister.My friend had a similar issue with a beef taco he ordered.The flavor was good.I'd also say the music is too loud.That said the palce is attractive the service is good , the prices reasonable and I'd go back.But I wouldn't order the same dish.It's BYOB. read more

So this place should be a national landmark. Really. It needs protected heritage site status of dietary significance. Today was my first time at Freppe's and it definitely won't be the last. As a matter of a fact if I stop showing up that is the signal to let my friends know to send a search party. Freppe's is a five star experience from start to finish. From the the young smiling faces which greet you at the hostess counter to the waiters to the food. It's amazing. The people who work here care about you enjoying yourself. Jabriel who made our guacamole table-side approached his task like a neurosurgeon approaches a patient. He cared that it was just right. He inspected each avocado to ensure it was ripe but not over ripe. The tacos were fantastic. Not just fantastic but I'll pick this place over south Cali or any joint in nyc any day. It's not even close. Great ingredients, expertly assembled, seasoned right. Fajitas were nothing to joke about either. It's done right. The waitress checked on us often and it felt like she was happy to see us so happy. What an amazing Saturday night. Thanks Freppe's. Freppe's is a gem!! It's easily our favorite restaurant in the area. Always great service and I've never disliked a dish. My personal fave are the carnitas tacos! I've had some super greasy carnitas (from other places) and I think theirs is so good with a nice crisp to the edges. Other faves include the chicken chimichanga, all the fajitas and the chicken mole if you're trying to be healthy. So I really liked this place and they even made some improvements since my initial review, like the addition of music, but last night's experience was very frustrating. I called for take-out and they tried to up charge me $1 when I asked them to put the flautas toppings off to the side of the tin so the flautas didn't get soggy on my ride back home. I totally get their up charges for food like extra sour cream or jalapeños. Not so much for their $1 charge for extra little ramekin of salsa but I agree to pay because I'm actually getting something. The up charge for simply putting the toppings off to the side did it in for me. I'm not at all frugal. I just don't like to be nickel-and-dimed when I eat at a restaurant. It really takes away from the experience for me, and makes it feel like I'm getting fast food instead. The best service for me is when i'm treated as a guest in someone's home, and not some tool to increase profits. And maybe I am, but don't make it so obvious. Please take this suggestion into consideration so I can return to enjoying your food again. And please know -- it's not about the money. I am super excited to give this review. This is legit the second review I have participated in writing in my entire life (first one on my own Yelp in which I downloaded because I felt so passionate to leave this comment). Anyway, I feel it is so hard to come by a restaurant nowadays with genuine staff, good customer service, & delicious food (most places, if you are lucky only succeed with 1 out of 3). Freppes however is a rare gem that met all of my expectations and then some). It all began about 2-ish weeks ago when my spouse and I went there for the first time. We walked in the door and right away one of the staff was attentive and asked to take my ice bucket to fill right away with ice for my homemade margarita that I brought with me. We could just tell how enthusiastic that server was from the get go and knew that we were going to have a special evening. We were then happy to see that that server was actually assigned to our table. She was kind, so down to earth, & truly was THE BEST server we had in a long time. The appetizer came (mini chimmies-recommended) and we were not only impressed by the beautiful presentation of the plate, but the dish blew our taste buds away. Then dinner came and that too was AMAZING (steak quesadillas and my spouse had a burrito). Later, we even got to meet the manager, Kathy who was also equally awesome! Since then, we keep bragging about Freppes to family & friends. Tonight my parents convinced me to take them there for dinner, luckily I could eat Mexican food everyday and I was more then willing to go back (even this soon). Again, it did not disappoint! We tried the flautas (so delicious). The food was just as good this second time around as it was the first time. I seriously want to try everything on the menu & believe no matter what you get there it will be great. The same staff from last time was working and that same server (named Ivy we now learned) also was assigned to us again. She truly is the best! Wow. Wish this place was closer to my home. The chimichangas are awesome. They actually are served to you crispy stet should be. Tamales with chicken were fiery good. The salsa served with the chips are great. I only wish they would give you a bottle of that salsa so you could put that on your meal. Food was very blan needs normal seasoning. They charge for EVERYTHING. We want a separate bowl for salsa with chips so we didn't share GERMS and they charged extra. Three people and the same size chips as one and told there was an additional charge for additional baskets of chips. We asked for a cup of hot water with lemon which I need to help with digestion, and they could not provide this. ????? Establishment was very clean. But no toilet paper in lady's room. Stopped by for indoor dining since was running an errand out of town. The food was pretty good (black bean soup okay, special quesadilla delicious, complimentary salsa flavorful, mahi mahi tacos ok-good). My fiancé and I have ordered from Freppe's several times but have never actually eaten in.. and we now regret attempting. After ordering and waiting nearly 40 minutes on a slow Sunday night, we were wondering where our food was. We then realized that we hadn't been informed if our entrees came with rice & beans (if so, I had requested black beans due to dietary issues). We decided to have everything wrapped up to be eaten at home after waiting nearly an hour, and of course my beans were also not corrected. One manager attempted to smooth things over and corrected our order. As we are walking out, an additional worker proceeded to inform me that my server is not supposed to tell me about the beans since it's listed on the menu. We were in the mood for some good Mexican food, I texted Phil Z, who lives local and he suggested Freppe's Tex Mex. As soon as we walked in, I had a good feeling about this place. We were greeted upon arrival by Edgar, he asked us where we wanted to sit (instead of being directed to a table) Edgar had asked if we were ever here and of course we hadn't been. We asked him for recommendations and I told him what I like and he recommended the Fajita Salad. I had mine with marinated Flank Steak. My husband got the Enchilada plate. Honestly this place is a nice find! It's fairly new still but they have the service and the food down pat. The waitresses are nice and attentive. The place is very clean, the prices are inline and they don't crowd you on top of the other guests, one of my pet peeves! I don't know what more you can ask from a Tex-Mex place... Came here for lunch. Had a blackened chicken salad, which was good but only had iceberg lettuce. I do wish it had come with a mixed greens. The salad had a good amount of cheese, olives, carrot shreds,and tomatoes. They only had three different types of salad dressings, mine came with a mango dressing which was good but I do wish they had some sort of vinaigrette as an alternative. Stopped by for dinner with my family. The restaurant is clean and the servers are so nice. It's BYOB so I would consider bringing a bottle the next time I come by (on Thursdays the waitress says if you bring tequila they will make you a margarita for free - that might be interesting). I've been dying for new Mexican options in the area so I was very excited about this place opening. Standard Mexican fare on the menu so I went for the enchilada. It wasn't great - they used cheddar cheese and covered it in salsa versus using a true enchilada sauce made with New Mexican chilis. Overall it tasted like it had tomato sauce on it versus enchilada sauce. The rice was solid and the beans were good but a larger portion of those items would have been better. My father got ribs which were delicious and the French fries were very good - crispy and well seasoned. Overall the food was just OK but the service was great and I would be willing to give it another shot with a different menu item. read more

Love Freppes and this has been our go to spot for Mexican food for years. My wife gets the shrimp tacos and I'm a huge fan of the combos.

My girlfriend/wife and I moved to the area in January. We were told by a few local friends to check out Freppe's. So we did. First impressions are formed within the first 8 to 12 seconds. Mind you, we just finished a long day of unpacking and setting up our new home. We were starving and half dressed. I may have had on sweatpants and a hoodie. Anyway, the place was not crowded but we didn't care. I did little homework and went in blind. First off it is BYOB and they will make Margarita's if you bring your own alcohol. I thought that was pretty cool. Secondly, they make table side Guacamole. Another pretty cool side note. And C, the food is outstanding. Now, I do need to remind you that I am in search of the world's best taco. I think I found it from a food truck about 17 years ago in Laredo, TX and haven't been able to find a place to duplicate it since. However, Freppe's street tacos are authentic, really good and I have had multiple combinations of their street tacos. Not the world's best, but very very good. We've tried multiple dishes and have never been disappointed. Overall a great place for great Mexican food. We have gone there a few times since we moved here and had takeout twice. Oh, we were the first delivery when the state ordered restaurants to offer takeout/delivery only due to Covid-19. They were prompt and the asked us to spread the word. Really enjoyed the food here! The atmosphere is super cute too. Prices are very decent and you get a lot for what you pay for. I got the chicken tacos and they were awesome. I don't know another decent Mexican place in the area so I was happy to find this Diamond in the rough. They have pretty ample parking in the back of the establishment which is better than parking on the street. We were excited to finally be able to eat outside the house after a long lockdown. We were seated outside quickly to our surprise without a reservation. There were 2 servers working hard! Although, the service was slow, this is not their fault, and I appreciate them for working. Sitting out side was refreshing but as the sun sets the mosquitoes come out. It was very buggy, and I would recommend if this is the new norm for a while to invest is big lights or citronella candles. The food from my view was mediocre. I've been to several Tex mex restaurants, and can say I've had better. The food was presented well, but the overall taste was just not there for me. Freppe's has been our Go-To restaurant since moving to Fanwood in 2018! Their food is consistently delicious, the managers and staff are friendly and accommodating, and the price is right. We are now continually disappointed by tex mex food that is NOT from Freppe's! Even Freppe's To-Go is incredible!
