My son brought me here on Mother's Day, and only one of the kids had Mexican food. She was disappointed with the nachos from the kids menu as they were only topped with cheese and the place they usually go serves them loaded, but that'w what I fix at home and the cheese was good. Older grandson had wings, and they were so spicy that he kept running out of water and we had to ask for more water a couple times. I had a combo with a cheese enchilada, which was good but surprising because it was topped with seasoning instead of sauce, and a chimichanga which was very good. Middle grandkids shared a chicken basket. I'm somewhat mobility impaired and the choice of seating was the patio, which is all high-tops, which don't work for me, or upstairs and there was no elevator. I did climb the stairs, but it's a slow process, so beware if that will be an issue for you. read more

Visited recently with friends. Had to walk through a wall of cigarette smoke to get inside from the parking lot. We were hoping to sit outside but forget that since all you smelled was cigarette smoke. Inside bar area is like a local corner dive bar. Ordered some drinks, nachos and chicken quesadillas. The nachos were a joke! We got a plate of chips covered in cheese. Nothing else was on the chips. The quesadilla wasn't much better. I think they used all of the cheese on the nachos because the quesadilla didn't have much of anything on them. I'd like to give them another chance since maybe it was a bad day but if this is what you should expect I won't go back. How do you sponsor 5k runs and smoking at the same time? Consistently average, at best. If I had to rate them on happy hour alone, the score would be higher. They have the best chips and salsa and margaritas in the area. Definitely opt for individual margaritas rather than the pitcher because you get more ice in a pitcher than actual margarita. Our dinner was underwhelming. Server was generally inattentive - more interested talking to his coworkers than refilling our waters or checking in with us. The food was served hot, but somehow, the shredded cheese in the enchiladas was unmelted while the corn tortilla was overcooked. You could tell it was shredded cheese from a bag, too. The redeeming quality was the mole sauce - delicious. I usually get the portobello fajitas, and I probably should have stuck to that, but something was telling me to switch it up. I used to be a regular back in the day and now wanted to bring my family. Of course I would come back for the best day ever! Cinco de mayo, was always a hit here. Margaritas always were on point. Food was delicious and service was great. Well I was highly disappointed, service was really bad our waitress was in a rush. Didnt even tell us her name and felt very rushed on taking our order. I get it, its the busiest day of the year but the service shouldn't suffer. When she came to check up on us after our order came out she did not even stop at the table, it was like a quick question " how is everything?" but we couldnt even answer her. She was already passed the table. I thought it was rude how she didnt stop at our table and really ask us how everything was. If she stopped and asked us I would have nicely told her that it actually wasnt good. Below is what we ordered and my review. Mango frozen Margarita and Regular frozen margarita- both were very watery, disappointed because they have a 2 margarita limit. (but why though we should be able to order more if they don't put any alcohol in them) Nachos- Tex Mex Nachos which included half beef and half chicken with pickled jalapenos and other toppings. We let our waitress know that we would like the pickled jalapenos on the side but it came on top of the nachos and there was A LOT of them. When we received the nachos there was little to no chicken and little to know beef. It was smothered in cheese and sour cream. It was a shame that the nachos weren't up to par. The nachos used to be the best thing on the menu because the loaded the nachos up! Sad that I found like 4 little pieces of chicken and a very small amount of ground beef. Now for dinner- I asked about their Wednesday special which is pick 3 of the items on the Combo platters for the price of 2. Okay cool! I asked our waitress she said no we arent honoring that because its CINDO DE MAYO. I said okay and then she came running back and said oh just kidding my manager said we will honor the special, if you ask for it, you can get it. Weird but okay. My husband and I ordered the below: Combination Platters- Spiced Ground beef Burrito- no flavor Chimichangas Pulled Pork and Shredded Beef- both had no flavor Spiced Ground Beef Burrito- no flavor Chimichangas Roasted Chicken and Pulled Pork-no flavor Both of the our meals were smothered in 2 big ice cream scoops of sour cream and chunky red salsa. Im not sure why the sour cream has to be so much- Maybe to hide that there is no flavor in the meat? I also ordered 1 chicken breast and rice for me son- $10 that's a joke right? Other Mexican places I've been to never charged me more than $6 for a piece of chicken and rice. However the chicken was also dry and the rice was on the plate and it was flatten out on the plate which was weird to me. Like they wanted to show it looked like a lot of rice. The one thing I regret was not taking pictures of all the food and drinks. I am usually good with taking picture but I wanted to spend this holiday with my family so I put my phone away. I won't be coming back here because of the service, food and drinks. I spent around $70+ and I should of saved this money to make homemade food or go to another Mexican Restaurant since there is a few in the area. I'm disappointed that my family and I had a bad experience here. We don't go out often due to the pandemic but we thought that it would have been a good idea to go out for Cinco. Stale chips and our waitress advised that it was happy hour until 6:30 so we were ordering drinks and at the end we were confused why our bill was so high. Shrimp fajitas had no taste and bland. Margaritas had little to no tequila in them. Also, we were the only table and it took at least 30 mins for someone to greet us. We ordered: Chicken and Beef Fajitas, Cod Baja Tacos, Pulled Pork Enchilada, Short Rib, Strawberry and Watermelon Margaritas, and for desert Apple Chimichanga. We felt that all the meals needed a kick, some sort of spice, almost felt bland. I mean they weren't horrible but they were just average. Didn't wow us. There are drink options (typically $5) for everyone and their margarita are delicious and strong! Our group typically orders pitchers ($28 as of Aug 2021) since we can get around 5-7 cups out of it. We've been going here for 25 years or more off and on. We watched the SpinksTyson fight here with friends. I will give some slack for the poor service given the fact that good help is hard to come by these days. Having said that the lack of training and attention to detail is mystifying. Now for the food. The order is enchiladas were good. The order of pork tacos were cold with clump of unmelted cheese, dried out tough pork, pretty much flavorless. Also forever you could get a spicier version of the salsa with the chips. None was available on this trip and the waitress had no indication that spicy salsa was ever an option. I find it hard to believe that I was the only customer seeking spicy salsa. I know some cultures like their beer less than cold, I'm not that guy. Taco Bell here I come. read more

The food here is totally original and exquisite! The service is wonderful, but enjoy one of their terrific tequila cocktails while waiting for your dish to be manually prepared. My husband and I went here around happy hour for dinner. It was loud on the patio, but, it's happy hour at a bar. We expected it. We had high hopes, given how other locals raved about it. Pros: service was excellent, and the food came out quickly. The patio's also pretty cute given the location. Cons: the food. The food can be best summarized as a Pennsylvania hipster's idea of Tex Mex. The bacon-wrapped shrimp? They were great. The moment we ventured into tex-mex territory, it all went downhill. The food was bland. I mean bland to the point that it seemed that they'd forgotten all seasonings, including salt. We'd done the combos to try a few different things- chicken enchilada, pork enchilada, chimichanga, and burrito. The place has a good selection of craft beers, and the table over from ours seemed to love their margaritas. I'd imagine this is a great place to come and drink, especially given that there aren't many right in the North Wales area. Unfortunately, as non-drinkers, we're just not the target audience. If 2.5 stars were possible, I'd give it just because the staff was that great. read more

This was my first time at Tex Mex Connection. The restaurant is in an old house in historic north wales, PA. The downstairs is the bar and up the stairs is the actually restaurant. It is a pretty small area for seating, only about 15 tables total. The menu looked great and I was ready for my chicken fajitas. Monday's they are $4 off the original price. Complimentary chips and salsa were given. The chips seemed like they were made in house wth there own seasoning on them. Same with the salsa. The chicken came with peppers and onions as well. Along with cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, and salsa. It was pretty bland and there was no salt or pepper on the table either. It seemed like the chicken, peppers, and onions were marinated in beer. read more

This place is a hit or miss. The drinks were delicious however the food was not the best. I ordered nachos and asked for double ground beef in place of half beef half chicken. When I received the nachos they had chicken on them, they did however bring my a side of beef. Unfortunately the food was very bland and undercooked. The ground beef that was on the nachos did not taste seasoned at all and my boyfriend ordered a burger and it was undercooked. It was raw in the center and almost taste like mush. We had heard that Tex Mex had great Mexican food, so we stopped by on a Tuesday evening to check them out. When we walked in, we noticed the bar took up the entire room and it first appeared as if it were either bar seating or outdoor seating, but apparently there's a second floor with regular tables (if we'd known that, we may not have sat at the bar, which had subpar service and loud older men). First they bring out the chips and salsa which were pretty good but a little bit bland in flavor (they're complementary, but if you want them refilled then you have to pay), and we ordered a Goose Island Summertime Kosch beer (which was probably the highlight of the visit) and the double IPA. I ordered two cheese enchiladas in the black bean sauce, which were so small for the price. The black bean sauce was way too sweet and a little bland in flavor as well, and there was so much of it- I had to scrape it off to actually taste the cheese- but it was a whole overpowering taste of nothing that masked the taste of everything else, just sitting on my enchiladas. The side of black beans and rice were good though. My boyfriend had an enchilada, a burrito, and a chimichanga that came topped with chili sauce, salsa, and sour cream, and he enjoyed his meal. I couldn't really hear anything the bartender said because he spoke quietly and the bar was pretty loud. The service was probably what you'd expect at a pretty crowded bar. Our search for a new go-to Mexican restaurant is officially over. Thanks to all who competed but Tex Mex Connection blew you away. The restaurant is definitely different, all bar on the ground floor with a fairly small and rather cramped restaurant on the second floor. Thank god we had an OpenTable reservation. On a side note, I really need to stop mentioning OpenTable or eventually people will realize how easy it is and that causes me to no longer be able to make reservations as I leave the house just to essentially cut in line anymore. I've even made a reservation for 5 minutes later while standing in a restaurant that just told me there'd be an hour wait minimum, rechecked in and been seated ... suckers. But I digress, back to the review. We were seated at a table as soon as we checked in and we're quickly ordering a pitcher of margaritas and appetizers. Followed quickly thereafter by entrees and another pitcher of margaritas. The food came out quickly and was absolutely incredible. The triple combo platter was designed to cater to fat people, but allowing you to also keep buying single tacos one at a time until you can't take anymore is a stroke of fat guy target marketing genius. On to the margaritas ... the pitchers were large, the flavor was perfect and the term STRONG doesn't do them justice. When we left I felt fine, I had just downed a couple pounds of food and I'm not exactly a little guy. As I drove home I started to get a little buzz going. About half way home I was committing a misdemeanor ... by the time I pulled into the driveway it was a full blown felony in progress. Thank god I aced the drunk driving car in Driver's Ed ... Our dinner companions decided to just hang out at our house for a couple hours after we got back because they were in no condition to drive either. I can't recommend Tex Mex Connection highly enough. But if you go and plan on partaking in the Margaritas make sure you designate a driver ... they hit you hard and fast. read more

I have been coming to this local Mexican restaurant for years now. I havs never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly, and efficient. The food is always delicious and fresh. My favorite menu items are the nachos of the day, and the Chili Rellenos with pork. The also have killer salsa, and margaritas. Cant forget to mention their tacos. They are simply delicious. I recommend bringing a spouse or significant other and having them get all the taco flavors you didnt get, so you can still try them all If you are looking for a more lively seen, the bar downstairs has tvs on, and generally some pretty good music! read more
