    Birthday cake
    Munchie D.

Update- 5/23 - To the owner, thank you for your response. Reviews are meant to be a customers personal experience not a personal attack towards you. I want to clarify that I did not request a refund (which I received 30 minutes ago and thank you) but rather an apology from the chef for his unprofessional behavior (which I never received). While I was addressing my concerns with Cecile, the chef was in the background making rude and inappropriate comments, which was unacceptable. My primary issue lies with the lack of communication, respect for a paying customer, and accountability. I was never offered ice packs, likely due to the establishment being busy, and I was not informed that writing on cakes was not preferred. Had this been communicated, I would have been understanding. Instead, I was told the chef is an artist and that's how he creates his cakes. Regardless of his approach, the final product did not meet my request. If the chef was unable to fulfill it, he could have politely communicated this to me. The handwriting on the cake was poor, resembling that of a young child. While I understand no one is perfect, this does not justify yelling or disrespecting a loyal customer. I have no personal issues with you or your establishment. However, I find it quiet unsettling that you took the time to send me a private message informing that there will be no apology because he felt offended and how you looked me up on Facebook and brought up my personal health. Yes, I am in need of a kidney and I appreciate you wishing me the best but that has nothing to do with this matter. Like I mentioned before this was not meant to throw shame at your business but to address an issue your husband has toward paying customers (females at that). Please know that in a previous review I had mentioned that Your desserts are tasty, and I've enjoyed them many times at your café. The front counter staff have always been pleasant, and your cozy café has been a welcoming place. It was until this incident, I loved visiting every Saturday. Regrettably, this experience has left me disappointed. At this point, you can keep your apology. I wish you and your team the very best moving forward and wish to no long entertain communication. ----------- Update 5/21- On 5/17, I addressed a concerning issue with the management regarding unprofessional and disrespectful behavior from the chef, along with a disappointing experience related to a misspelled "birthday" on a cake I ordered. Despite my efforts to resolve the matter, the chef offered no apology or resolution. Instead, management dismissed my concerns, defending the chef's actions by claiming "in France, that's how they spell birthday" and emphasizing the chef's status as a "professional artist." The dish itself, as shown in photo, did not reflect this claimed expertise. Their focus was solely on having me remove this review rather than addressing the issue. As a result, they've lost a loyal customer due to their poor handling of the situation and lack of accountability. I would advise to look at all the other reviews as well as Google reviews to see the lack of professionalism from this establishment. ------------ Update 5/17: I had a pleasant conversation with a manager regarding my concern, but overheard the baker/owner making rude remarks about our discussion in the background. This unprofessional behavior was completely unacceptable and left me feeling so uncomfortable that I no longer wish to return. In addition, the writing was from the baker/owner himself. Other review(s) address concerns about his rude and unethical behavior. Boulanger grossier! ---------- 5/16 - I am a frequent customer of this establishment and I was truly disappointed with the cake my husband purchased for my birthday yesterday. The cake was overly soggy, and the writing was poorly done, with an obvious misspelling of "Birthday." I expected a much more professional appearance from a bakery.

    Vegetable panini with goat cheese

Such a unique experience for a lovely lunch. In a world of fast food and always the same Choices- the French express is a lovely break from the norm. They offer a variety of crepes, paninis, soups and salads. I chose the green vegetable panini which included artichokes, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and yellow squash with goat cheese. My kids tried three different crepes, including the salmon, the sugar and the Nutella and banana. My mother chose the chicken salad and my husband got the turkey, Brie, and pear panini (he shocked me with that order). Everything was just fresh and delicious. I highly recommend for anyone who wants a quaint spot to eat or to escape into France- give it a try! A hidden treasure in an unexpected strip mall.

When visiting family in Latrobe & Ligonier, they took us to French Express and it's SO good. The owners are French and they bring an authentic taste of France to PA. What a treat! It's all I want to eat when I visit. We enjoyed sandwiches, salads, quiche, macarons... Pre-Covid, French Express catered a family party too and it was the most delicious and beautifully presented catered food and desserts! They also offer gift cards! If you live in or visit the area, you must make a stop here! Come hungry, leave happy!

Cute little place tucked away in a large strip mall. We were in the area getting our taxes prepared and wanted to grab some lunch. Now, having lived in Latrobe while I attended college here the town used to not have a whole lot of options, but that seems to have changed drastically and luckily for us it included this little surprise. I'm not sure I would have ever known about it had it not been for yelp so glad we checked our options before deciding. The inside is quaint, decorated to embellish the French theme. They have pastry cases full of delicious looking treats. I'm pretty sure Matt was drooling. The ordering process was a bit confusing. There was no clear conclusion on where you go to order. We kind of stood there at the case while a woman behind the counter bustled around the working station. Also the menus are not easily readable and are posted in different areas but not complete. For instance they had a chalkboard near the door with the specials, but I didn't even see that until after we ordered and sat down. There seemed to be part of the menu listed on this wall and some over there. If you're new this can be confusing. A couple that came in after us were waiting on first because they seemed to know where to go. Once we saw them we figured out what to do. Just a little bit of learning curve. So here's the thing. The food is really good. Like crave worthy good. I got a cup of mushroom soup and a smoked salmon with horseradish cream, capers, and red onion crepe. The crepe was so delicious. The soup was good, but I prefer a thicker soup when eating mushroom soups, It was a bit watery, but it had tons of mushrooms which I appreciate. The place is a little pricy for lunch but the quality calls for the tag, not to mention they change menus regularly to keep things fresh and use in season ingredients. Definitely worth the stop.

Yes, yes, yes! Using the line of Meg Ryan in the film, When Harry met Sally, I am thrilled beyond belief to have this dining spot available in this area. Open for over a year?! All this time I chose Wendy's over you? My radar for unique and delightful places has failed me. Quiches, soups, croissants, danishes, a freshly prepared salad bar with all of its fine specialties, meals to go, comfy French cafe dining, and music, along with plenty of French accents to go around! French Express, you had me at Bon-jour!

Upon entering the restaurant, there are crystal chandeliers, bright colors, French posters, and a lively atmosphere. The restaurant had a lot of potential until we experienced the service and cuisine. I brought my Supper Club here, and we had a group of 8 of us. There was also a very large group at the restaurant. We were neglected on several occasions, and it took us 2 HOURS just to get our food order. That's not an exaggeration. Our waitress was rather snippy with us, and ended up apologizing at the end but it did make for an unpleasant experience. When we finally received our bread, we were so hungry that we scarfed it down despite it being not so great sour dough bread. Every dish was flavorless and left us wanting more. I had to send back the steak on two occasions: once for being undercooked and once for being overcooked. I ended up getting my meal for free. The Coquilles St. Jacques had the smallest scallops without the lovely scallop shell its usually served in. The shrimp cocktail tasted like anything you could get at the grocery store. The Nicoise Salad was just sad and flavorless. The porkchop and escargot had the most flavor. I will definitely not be back to this establishment. Our group did enjoy each other's company, and it created a very memorable experience even though it was an overall bad experience!

The food was just insanely delicious and the service was amazing. I mean ending the night with that candy cart is just genius. It's pretty low cost for the restaurant but such a fun photo opp and nostalgic box to take home. This was probably the most expensive meal I've ever had, so I'm also really glad it was the best. Starting with the bread service the olive oil, honey, and butter were amazing. It was hard to restrain myself from eating a ton of it. The corn custard, scallops, and pierogi were delicious, but that wagyu beef, so freaking delicious. It came with a steak sauce where you mix the quail egg into it. Yum! It was just the best beef dish I have ever had. I can say enough good things about it. The kombucha pallet cleanser was also adorable before dessert. They think so much about the fun and whimsy of the presentation here, it just makes it that much more memorable. The posset for dessert, (their signature dessert) was beautiful and delicious as well. The wine pairing was spot on and I enjoyed every glass. The champagne tasting they also offer was pretty tempting, but also a bit more pricey than what I needed to tack on to an already expensive bill. My only complaint was the $10 small cup of coffee. Like they could have at least left the pot on the table. It just felt a little overkill to me when you already are spending $350 on the meal, maybe include the coffee. Nonetheless, smacked dab in the emptiness of the Southside lies a hidden gem called Cafe du Jour! With a brightly lit outside, this little restaurant is nestled in between 2 vacant buildings, but that doesn't take away from its charm. Inside, the restaurant is very small and only has about 10 to 15 tables. The kitchen is small and right up front. There is an outside patio with a beautiful wall waterfall, which was obviously closed for the winter. I got a sneak peek, however. Its just so charming inside. Apparently, the menu changes seasonally and most likely even more frequently than that, which is just one of the many reasons to keep coming back for more! Here's what my friend and I tried: [Goat Cheese Fritter]: The flavors in this appetizer were phenomenal. The goat cheese fritter was the star of the show, but it so easily paired well with purple cabbaged beets and roasted pepper fondue. All the flavors meshed perfectly together. [Focaccia]: There was a tomato focaccia with a Bourbon black garlic spread that was so delicious. The focaccia was soft yet crisp and the spread gave a well rounded dynamic to the dish. [Mushrooms]: I don't like mushrooms but these were amazingly seasoned and seared. I loved the burrata and baguette which accompanied the dish. [Stuffed Chicken]: I can't say enough good things about this chicken. It was perfectly cooked and stuffed with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and a mushroom duxelles. All the flavors were exquisite and had me eating the entire dish. The butternut squash puree and smashed potato were delicious beyond belief. [Short Rib]: You could cut this rib with a fork. It just fell off the bone. The orzo that came with the dish was deliciously seasoned. [Flourless Chocolate Torte]: I don't normally like a lot of chocolate so this wasn't my favorite. There was also an almond whip cream on top that I didn't care for. [Pumpkin Praline Cheesecake]: This was so so so good. It was sweet but in the best way. The praline added a saltiness to the dessert. It was just all around amazing! I must say that this place was one of the best restaurants I tried this year.
