A couple of days ago I decided to find a place that would fix it - totally forgot. I was meeting a friend at Chinese Kitchen (which is just above Dr Gadget and DELICIOUS btw). Lo and behold I drive up and see a sign "we fix cellphones." I thought "no way!" I strolled on in. Chris had a smile on his face and said "Hello how can I help you?" I told him the situation. He let me know he was about to close up, but he knew the phone model really well. He thought he could fix it in a half an hour. I gave him my number and told him I was having dinner at Chinese Kitchen. I kept looking at my phone so I wouldn't miss his call. A half hour went by - nothing. Then I look up and there he is standing at the counter. "Sorry, but I tried calling and your phone went to vm." WOW - really?! Instead of just leaving because he couldn't get in touch with me- he came up to let me know it was done. WOW! I don't mean to make such a big deal about that, but it seems in this day and age most people aren't willing to go above and beyond. Well, Chris did! Awesome customer service and very knowledgeable. I plan on bringing my Apple Watch to get my battery replaced as soon as I get back out that way.

I went into the store to upgrade my phone and was told I needed to pay off the remaining…read morebalance--about $3XX--on my previous device, which made sense since I hadn't completed the full payment term. Once I did that, I was informed I could trade in the phone, get the lastest and greatest model and that our monthly bill would actually decrease since we'd no longer be paying the full installment. I asked multiple times to confirm: "So that's it--no catches? I just pay the $300-something today, get the new phone, and our bill goes down?" The manager assured me that was correct. I paid the amount and signed the receipt thinking everything was done. Then, I was told I still owed another $180+ in taxes. The manager claimed he had mentioned "plus taxes," but at no point was it made clear that there would be an additional $180 charge after the $300+ I had just paid, he rationed this by saying he doesn't see this until after, but if I was doing the sale I could have found 50 different ways to ensure what to expect. I felt blindsided. While I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he said plus taxes, it certainly wasn't clear there was still another significant charge pending. When I expressed that I felt this was misleading, he disagreed. I told him I wasn't looking to argue but wanted to cancel the entire transaction and get a refund, as it felt like a bait-and-switch. He said everything was final and there was nothing he could do. It's not about the money--it's the principle. The process felt like a car sale of financially committing and paying for things thinking your are done before revealing the full cost which was not clear, which is not how I like to do business. In the future, I'll just make my purchases online where things are laid out more clearly.
