SWITCHING POLARITIES Someone once asked my thoughts on a battery store, and I said "well, there's a lot of positives and negatives". Despite their signage out front saying otherwise, this business is listed as 'Batteries Plus' on Yelp. They can be found on the left end of a strip mall in Bolingbrook near the intersection with Weber Rd, near Charley's Cheesesteaks and KO Sushi on Boughton Rd. The other month my 3yo's toy plane ran out of juice, and he asked me to fix it. "Sure buddy, no problem", I told him, "how hard can it be to find a pair of LR41 button batteries? Shouldn't be that expensive..." Famous last words. Come to find out, not only are LR41 button batteries a non-standard type, but they're hella expensive ($5/ea). Button batteries are the bane of my existence and pose a serious health risk, so yes, I hate them with every fiber of my being. The sales associate helped me find what I needed, and $11 later my son's plastic model 737 was making its usual cacophony of noises. Whoever designed that !@&$% toy to use the most obtuse batteries available should be drawn & quartered like in medieval times (the era, not the dinner theatre). * TL;DR * If ever there was a niche store, it's Batteries + Bulbs. I shouldn't need to come back here, unless I'm dumb enough to buy another toy that's powered by atypical means (anything other than 'AA' or 'AAA' batteries). The store is organized well and serves its purpose, though not in a terribly exciting fashion. At least their name spells out exactly what's offered, no ambiguity here. read more

Do not come here, the staff doesn't know what they're doing. I cam in for a simple battery fix on Sunday, August 9th the same day they let me know as they were changing the battery they accidentally broke my screen and the sensors, they "fixed" it. But The same day I notice the screen is lifting on the left corner . They couldn't install a simple screen properly!!! I came in again on Monday, August 10th they got the left corner to stick down but now there is a bright green line on my screen and the same left corner is heating up to a ridiculous temperature. I come in again Tuesday, August 11th they tell me the mother board is fried and my phone is basically useless now.Lastly they said my phone still turns on, nope completely dead. My experience was full of lies..I have to get a brand new phone which is not cheap and all I came here for was for a battery change. They destroyed my phone do not come here unless you want to spend 1k on a new phone. Very disappointed I had so much hope and was so patient for the staff to get it together. All they did was refund $96 which 1. Isn't going to get me a new phone and 2. Is not even how much I paid to get the battery changed in the first. how did I come with a phone that had no problems other than needing a new battery, to now having a Phone that will not even turn on? They tried to blame the overheating on me, but what a coincidence that the second I brought it in on Monday the motherboard started to fry in the same corner of the screen that they failed to properly secure because of my over usage with the battery?? My old iPad needed a new battery and Apple no longer had them. They wanted to send me to Best Buy in Joliet, which may or may not have had the battery, and would have been very inconvenient. I went to Batteries Plus, where I have been a watch battery customer for years, and they quickly and effectively solved my problem. They got the needed battery the next day and installed it a day later. The iPad is again working fine. The cost was more than Apple quoted if they had the battery, but was worth it to me for the quick service and lack of extra travel. I don't know what Best Buy would have charged me. read more

The most incompetent bunch of people I've ever had to deal with. Went in for a repair on my keyfob. After 2 weeks and no call they admitted they had me mixed up with another order. Didn't even look at mine. Promises and promises to call back never did went to the store and Mark the locksmith was absolutely clueless then he decides to work on it after hours over the weekend and tries to charge me an additional $45.00 for his overtime. I feel strange giving Batteries Plus 5 Stars, but what else can I give a store that has always had that strange and hard to find battery or bulb in stock? If they didn't have one in stock, they would be happy to order it or find a store that had it in stock. Saturday I called them about a battery for my dive camera, the computer showed zero on hand, they could have one in by Friday, but instead of giving up I was told please let me put you on hold while I double check the shelves. Bingo! They did have it in stock, and now I have a spare battery for my SAD kit (Save A Dive). Their prices are fair (sure, you can find almost anything online cheaper, that is if you want to wait). Staff is excellent! So far they've had in stock everything I've needed! That is why they rate 5 Stars!! read more

The guys here are awesome. Came in with a phone problem that I had, and they took care of me so quick. My phone wasn't charging, and when plugged in it would blink *charging* and then *not charging.* Most frustrating thing ever. At some point the battery dropped to 1% and then it finally died. I stopped by this location 15 mins before close and they took me in. He messed around with it for 10-15 mins and got my phone to work! He did a deep clean of the charging socket, and viola. Best part about it was that he didn't charge me a dime- cleaning charging ports is free! Have been back several times since. Plus they seem like they're locally owned. this is a review of Batteries Plus in Bolingbrook IL. This place broke my mothers watch band. Then they blamed her for forcing them to change the battery in the watch. They said their employee was only twenty years old and inexperienced. She insisted that they repair the broken band. The manager repeatedly lied and then yelled at an eighty eight your old woman. After she talked to another employee the watch band was repaired and after a few weeks it was returned to her. She went back and got the watch and asked for an apology for the behavior of Mitch the manager and an employee for lying to her repeatedly and for providing false information to her. The manager Mitch refused to say I am sorry . She left the store and then the Mitch the manger followed her out to her car and proceeded to take pictures of her car and license plate. What the hell is wrong with these people. Do not patronize a business that damages your property then yells at an elderly woman. Then tries to intimidate her by photographing her car and license plate! Screw you Battery Plus I hope that you go out of business and your franchise is revoked. Response to your response: You mean the store manager who yelled at an 88 year old woman then followed her out to her car taking pictures of her and her license plate? I brought my phone to these guys to have the screen repaired on my Galaxy Note 8. They charged $230 to fix the screen, but broke the earphone speaker. They had to order a new speaker, and after it came in, I brought the phone back in to have it replaced. When they replaced the speaker, the phone was no longer able to connect to my cell network. They broke the phone. The guy said I could get a replacement or upgrade, and they would pay. I went and got a Galaxy 10+ upgrade, and turned in my broken phone. Two days later, they call and say they will give me a check for $300 and refund the cost of the original repair. Not the cost of the upgrade, but OK, they are giving me the cost of the original phone trade-in value and refunding their lame repair, so I'm good with that. An hour later, they call back and say no, they won't refund the repair, just give me a refurb phone or $300, no refund for their poor service. "It's an unusual situation", they say... Funny, as I was standing there waiting to get the speaker replace, two other customers were victims of the same "unusual situation" - one guy was having a watch battery replaced, and they messed up the case and couldn't get the back of the watch back on, the other was a phone repair that went bad, and the guy was told "we can't get it working again, so you'll have to come back Monday" (two days later...) How does this place stay in business? read more

Purchased a battery for my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 since AT&T does not carry replacement batteries. I paid $34.99 (before tax) for the replacement and just looked on eBay and could have purchased the item for under $10 (shipping included). I realize that brick & mortar stores have to charge a higher rate for their products, but the markup here is ridiculous! I will say that the employees were friendly and very knowledgeable about their products and that they also do bulb and battery recycling so I am sure that I will return with items that would have gone into the landfill otherwise. read more

I went into this location probably about a month or so ago. I went in to get my screen fixed. at first it was a good job no issues. A week later the INSIDE of the screen started cracking. When i would turn on my phone it would appear cracked, but if i turned it off it was invisible. So i went back in and asked for help. The guy there was nice and helped me but told me he could only help me this time since i didn't purchase a warranty. Okay fast forward 2 weeks, my phone no longer receives signal from my carrier. i took it in to at&t and Apple and was told my phones sim cartridge was damaged. I hadn't dropped my phone or had any type of damage since it was fixed. I called the location and told them what happened. I was told because I can't prove they did it + not having the warranty they would not help me. Also having my screen fixed by them voided my apple 1 year warranty. Im now getting an insurance claim done to get an entirely new phone. Point of the story. this location has done a very shotty job at fixing my phone AND damaging it. Do not visit this location if you still have a warranty just go straight to apple. I have so many headaches because of this place I regret getting it fixed here. I'm honestly only writing this because i now have to pay $200 EXTRA because I wanted a cheap/quick screen fix at this location. Brandon did an excellent job of replacing the battery in my iphone 5s while I waited. The repair estimate time ( 15 min) was spot on. AND when I asked about doing the same thing with my iPad, when he couldn't guarantee the repair time, he was up front with the reasons why, provided his card, and suggested both a date to try again and to call first so that my device just isn't sitting there collecting dust. The guys there were knowledgeable, and not just out to make a sale or get your money. So I do trust them enough to be coming back at a future time and have them do my IPad as well. read more
