    Sunpower Solar Installed

    I began researching solar electric power in mid-2020; interviewing various companies in the San Antonio-metro area and receiving bids at the end of October 2020. Freedom Solar staff quickly convinced me the SunPower's equipment was state-of-the-art and single-sourced from one manufacturer. I was looking to offset approximately 85% of incoming power from the CPS grid during the highest usage Summer months. The Freedom Solar Rep, Pierce Adams, and I went through various configurations; 327-watt (smaller footprint) versus 415-watt (larger footprint) -- in the end selecting fewer 415-watt panels to accomplish a similar outcome. Freedom Solar completed the installation prior to Christmas 2020 and CPS Energy completed their operational certification January 8, 2021. January and February 2021 were both foggy and mostly cloudy and we did have small electric bills from CPS Energy. It has been Solar-bliss ever since; nary a CPS bill for electric from March 2021 forward. IMPORTANT NOTE: When tied to the electrical-grid, Solar power isn't available when your grid-provider cuts the inbound power; the mid-February 2020 Winter storm left us at the mercy of ERCOT and CPS with rolling power outages over 3.5 days. We subsequently added a 20 KWh natural gas-powered, whole-house backup generator. Other options could include a battery-backup to your Solar installation, which we found to be cost-prohibitive. The backup generator solution proved its mettle on February 3, 2022 as it engaged during a 6.5 hour CPS Energy outage that day. The auto-switchover & switchback is also reassuring. My lights and heat automatically resumed doing what they do. My home network reset itself within 5 - 7 minutes. I only needed to turn the TV back on (manual restart of a clothes washer, dryer, and dishwasher would also be necessary).     There is a three page review on this submitted to the BBB, since there isn't enough characters to leave the rest of the details here. I started the search for a solar system for our 3-year-old house. The salesman gave me his pitch and I was very transparent and honest about our situation and what we were looking for. A system to offset the electric bill and a tesla Powerwall (in particularly). He lets me know they have it for 12,700. quotes. Overall, my salesperson was absolutely fantastic every step of the way, text, email, calls and I found it very helpful that he was able to educate me on the system he is offering, pushing how great Sunpower is and how long they have been around and how they are a FAMILY. It was a whole week I spent on researching the three companies and their products. My salesperson was adamant about Sunpower, their product, their warranty, and how effective Tesla is as a company and assured me they are in stock and average 30-45 days install time! Friday night, on the phone with my salesman, he tells me not to put pressure on you, but the Tesla Powerwall is now up to 16,700, but since your proposal expires on 2/28/2021 we can honor the old price of 12,700. I am excited, a week of deliberation and research has come to an end, I believe I am investing in a company that truly has my best interest at heart, they have been in business 15 + years my salesman has been telling me story after story about how they take care of their customers. He sends me over the first batch of finance papers and it equates to the amount I listed above. I get a phone call that there is some bad news and he had selected the wrong tesla option, and the price is 16,700 for the Tesla Powerwall, but he has re did the numbers to make the bottom line close to what the original offer was. This bottom line offer was similar, but at a 1.5% APR or higher, to drop the overall price, increasing the monthly payment well over the original offer, sending it from 139.00 to well over 200.00. I started to feel very mislead and frustrated, to me it was simple, can Sunpower just honor the original quote they quoted, educated, and sold me on? I was being told for over a week this was the price and talked into sticking with them, which I was now bought into, but I had to add over 4,000.00 now into the price and more interest on a loan increasing the overall monthly payments, and overall interest I would be paying on? I down right pleaded to see if he can just honor it. I was quoted, educated by him, informed, talked up, and SOLD on that quote based on ALL the information HE gave me. He calls back, and tells me it's out of his hands, and that a manager will call me on MONDAY! I was at awe at how everything changed so drastically and now this company that is so big, tenured in the business, and family vibes, couldn't give me a call, and let the salesman try to talk me UP from what they quoted. He then said he could cancel it if I would like that better. This part was the most painful, because I have been transparent, honest, and even sent the competing proposals for him to see, and all I was asking was for them to honor a price they had educated, informed, and sold me on! I felt defeated and just moved forward with a 0.99% APR for an increase of nearly 4,000.00 on the original loan. I am hopeful I will be happy with the system, service, and Tesla Powerwall. I am just completely frustrated, saddened, and disappointed that Sunpower can't make a simple change and honor the original agreement. I understand that he selected the wrong button, but on the CUSTOMER SIDE, my side, I had no idea he selected the wrong button, we talked about these amounts for a week, he assured me this is the best system, this is a great rate, this proposal is everything that I am looking for and it is slightly more expensive but it is a great system. My salesperson was the one educating me on THEIR proposals, it would not even cross my mind that he would need to select something else. Yet it is us as customers that have to take that on.

Their technician, Jonathan Scholtz, diagnosed a corroded indoor evaporator coil and low system pressure. He also tried to upsell me on replacing the entire unit -- I should have realized that was a warning sign. Instead, they replaced just the coil. I paid the full amount ($3,233.85 after the veteran discount) and hoped that would be the end of it. About five months later, I started noticing the condensate pan overflowing and draining outside the house. I tried clearing the lines myself, but the dripping continued. Since it took Lisa from Veteran Air several hours to respond, I went ahead and called another HVAC company for help. They charged me a $150 on-site visit fee. The other technician was shocked by what he found: when Veteran Air replaced the coil, they never reinstalled the baffles around it and didn't even secure the coil properly in the brackets. There was basically no way for the condensation to drain correctly. He also confirmed the system pressure was still extremely low. The other techs could have fixed it right then, but they didn't want me to be out of pocket for repairs that should be covered under warranty. They recommended I call Veteran Air back to make it right. Here are pictures of what the other HVAC tech saw. I'm really disappointed -- I expected better, especially from a company that serves veterans. I wouldn NOT recommend Veteran Air based on this experience.

This past Sunday evening my air conditioner decided to stop working. As a home owner I have been through the hell that comes with finding a reputable firm and believe me I have been burned. Through an acquaintance I was referred to Barrett & Sons. I looked at their web page and called them as they claimed 24 hour service - I was fully expecting the San Antonio runaround with $19.95 service calls and a $2000 estimate. Within 10 minutes of leaving a message I had a return phone call. The call came from one of their Commercial Service techs (my issue was residential). The gentleman asked if he could contact their residential tech on call and I said yes. Now - here is where it gets good. Within 15 minutes I have a phone call from that individual who was more than concerned and willing to help. He said he could be right over to assist (he was at the Laundromat) as soon as he could get home and get his van. He called me back about 6:45P and told me he was on his way. I will spare the detail but the moral of the story is that by 7:30 my air was on. Not only was it on I didn't get the typical you need x, y and Z other items. It was just fixed. The price was more than fair and the attention to detail (and service) was off the charts. There is something to be said for making the customer the first priority and backing it up. I would recommend Barrett & Sons to anyone.
