Customers- have your "A" coil inspected!
Vortex serviced my AC for the last 5 years. 2+ years for a landlord, and 3 for me.
At my first service call after buying this house, I asked them for a complete inspection of the AC unit. The AC was old, but still working suprisingly well.
At this year's service call, although the AC was still cooling well, a couple of issues were found so I decided to have Vortex replace the old workhorse with a new unit for about $5000.
As the new AC was being installed, I looked at the old one on the driveway and saw thick blankets of filth covering the "A" coil. So thick, that I peeled it off in sheets. This indicated years of neglected maintenance.
The issues that caused me to replace my AC (prematurely) might have been rectified by simply cleaning the dirty "A" coil. Vortex even said the issues could have been caused by the dirty coil.
They told me the "A" coil is only looked at if it "seems" necessary. Eventually they admitted it should have been checked.
Because my AC was older, the larger issue for me is that Vortex said they would extend my labor warranty and register the new AC with the factory. They did not followed through on either.
My experience- nice guys, typical service. read more
