Our Service First technician, Rolando, is an earnest professional who clearly wanted to investigate rather than make uninformed guesses. This is an unusual trait in service technicians who usually display a "I know more than you" attitude. We found this approach refreshing and very appealing. He spent extra time to diagnose, research, and attempt to find replacement parts, while keeping us informed of his progress. Another company's tech quoted a $1600 job WITHOUT a full diagnostic. Service First provided a full diagnostic (gratis) AND fixed the problem in one call. Outstanding. Our air conditioner drain was plugged. I called 4 different HVAC service businesses that claimed they did 24 hour service. The only one that was able to respond with actual service was Service First. They told me that the service man would respond between 10/11pm and we also discussed the cost of the repair (which was reasonable). As promised, Rolando showed up just after 10pm. He was cordial and cheerful and gave me every confidence that he would get this fixed quickly. He flushed the drain and double checked that flow had been restored by pouring water through the drain - my confidence was well placed! My AC just broke recently and my blower motor just went out. So they replaced it for $1200. I took apart the motor and found that a current limiter on the blower motor module fried. That component is $1.16 but I know they probably don't do component level replacements on the module. But, the module is only $250-300 dollars so that part could have been replaced instead of the whole thing. To pricey of a service, I would shop around instead of going here. I had a another technician come out to finish the paperwork that was supposed to be completed the first time but that just added something else that needed to be replaced. I was hoping for a price break down of the motor cost verses installation breakdown. When I called they said they do not do that but have a set price for that service. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with any sort of home service. The one good thing I'll say is they did come out on short notice when my AC went out -- after that it's become nightmare after nightmare. The system wasn't properly installed, the team was unprofessional, and after voicing complaints they've just stopped responding to us even though we have a 1 year long contract with them for the new system. I was charged a $129 mandatory residential service trip fee, I was given a window of 11 am-1 pm and the technician arrived at 2 pm. If I pay a compulsory service fee, I expect them to be on time. They do not waive the fee with a repair like many other companies do which is disappointing. My capacitor needed to be replaced and they charged me $389 for an $89 part then I also had 1.5-2 pounds of R410A freon added to my system and they charged me $125 per pound, that's insane... I won't be using them again and recommend you look elsewhere, I spoke to a friend after I had my repair done and he recommended Goettl and I'll try them next if any issues arise. I ended up paying them over $700, I will note that Sebastian their technician was knowledgeable and friendly but their prices are ridiculously high and their trip fee is unnecessary, especially with a repair. read more

We got home from a friend's and our air conditioning was blowing warm air. Even at night, San Antonio heat is brutal. With two dogs and a cat, we couldn't wait for the long Labor Day weekend to pass. My husband called Service First and got a technician scheduled for late in the evening. The owner called and was able to get a technician to our hours almost 6 hours earlier than expected. The technician quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. Our A/C was running and blowing cold air within a few minutes of it being fixed. We are extremely grateful for Service First's quick responsiveness, professionalism and great work. You should know that it is $129 for a technician to come out for an emergency call and wish that would be reduced if you have to pay for additional work. I will gladly recommend Service First to friends and co workers in San Antonio. Quick response, great service and a quick install when my HVAC unit broke down over a long holiday weekend, of course (they want your money, right?). After they have your money however, they completely fall apart. A list of issues that have popped up since they installed my new system: - They were to provide me with paperwork to receive a rather substantial CPS rebate. Never got it. - They installed the new unit so that it is impossible to replace the filters due to the proximity of the door frame the units sits in. An speaking of filters... - The new unit was supposed to come with a year's worth of free filter replacements, which never appeared. - The Wi-Fi thermostat they installed likes to turn itself off at random times due to improper installation, which we had a different HVAC company fix. Be careful with your money, folks. These people will over promise and under-deliver. I have been trying to contact Heydis, the office manager for three weeks now with no luck because they are constantly out of the office with what seems to be no set schedule, so I've given up and I'll find another HVAC company who doesn't seem to take so many shortcuts or make so many excuses for shoddy work. read more

Service First understands this. I called a couple other places that had high yelp ratings, but they were too busy to take my call, and another could not make it out until the next day, Service First took my call even after 8 pm and promised to have a tech out that night. Not only did Marco show up, but he is very friendly, knowledgable, hard working, and honest. He had our AC blowing cold, explained what needed to be done, and even told me that he would call our AC manufacturer the next day to see if he could get the part replaced under warranty. He called the next morning with good news-- it was under warranty and he made the phone calls to save me over $100 himself. That is going above and beyond what any customer could expect. Also, Sam called me every 30 minutes or so to update me on how long it would be before Marco could get there, and continued to reassure me that it would be done that same night. BUYER BEWARE!!!! I'd give negative stars if I could. I own rental property in SA and called for a potential repair. $85 service call I'm told my repair needed is probably minor and because the a/c is frozen, Rudy would have to return in the morning. When I do get contacted the next day I'm told it needs replacement. Oh god, I think, but send me the quote. I get a text of a generic description and price and of course it's pricey. I ask for it to be broken down - who wouldn't like to be able to check if they are getting normal prices or ripped off. I get attitude and more generic description of what is needed and told that NO company breaks prices down. Knowing I'm about to get ripped off - I call a different repair company who don't add a fee to check my property. They also explained thoroughly what was wrong, they also told me the full outside replacement wasn't needed, and they broke down the cost. And guess what?!? It's over $1500 cheaper. We needed an estimate on our A/C and our compressor, both of which were 30+ years old. I got a very good price on both pieces, plus duct repairs. When I asked them how soon could they start, they said immediately. This was at noon. Approximately 10 1/2 hours later I had a new system installed with zero issues. Our technician Joseph came out late at night to assist us. The AC was blowing out hot air in all the rooms, we have a damper system so this is a more difficult AC unit to deal with. Joesph left us his personal cell if we had any future issues. A week later the AC was blowing out hot air again after we got our previous thermostats reinstalled. We called Joseph and he was very diligent and knowledgeable about our thermostat. We sent him a picture of the wires and he knew exactly what the problem was. Called these guys this morning for a broken AC. The service technician came out and saw that the capacitor on our condenser was blown. He told me that the cost of the capacitor is $250. Not knowing any better I agree to pay this plus their $85 call out fee. Afterwards I did some research and found out that the cost of these capacitors range from $10-$30. Simple math tells me that they put a 1000% markup on their parts. When I phoned the office, the lady tells me that that is their price, take it or leave it and by signing the invoice I have agreed to pay their extortionist prices. I know I should've done my research before hand, but hopefully this will help out somebody else in the future. I will never do business with the ripoff artists again. read more

Customer BEWARE - the service started with a 'blown fuse' - it continued with a compressor blown - then a leak in the refrigerant - after many visits - it turns into having the outside unit and inside unit having to be replaced at an extremely large cost. The units were only 7 years old - they should last way beyond those years. - Doesn't this sound like 'mechanic' error along the way? I would say, get other opinions instead of calling the same people out - this was the worst experience with any mechanic - reported them to the BBB with no results except they did nothing wrong - hard to believe when it starts with something minor and results in replacing both units. read more

Big Big Mistake. I chose them because of good reviews from another city search page. even though against my better judgement as they were not a BBB member. Well like allot of the reviews I read before calling them they were on time and Jack the lead tech. was personable and knowledgeable. That were it ends. They took all day mush of it waiting for this or that. Bottom line they claimed it was a fan which after paying them 450.00 I find out today using a single ac tech person it was a fried circuit board that controls the air flow into the house itself allowing switching from ac to ac + fan. My fault for being nice and trusting as the fan looked good to me and although they said everything was good to go at around 5PM i still expressed concerns as to the fact the air coming from the vents although cold seemed very very faint. Their tech. Jessie said that's normal and that i needed to wait 10 minutes then they took off. I also was a jerk for signing the e paper to give them money as it really contained very very little information as to material and labor or really anything of useful value.After suffering to heat around 88 degrees I called them but got a wise guy saying well you really should have gotten riid of that old system but wouls see if they could send a tech. sometime in afternoon. Folks i now know there is a laser like pointing device that a tech could have used to check air flow coming out of vents. Folks the paper work should include parts and labor and warranty information and exactly what the heck they claimed to be the cause of the problem before the fixed it naming what they did to fix it. After a negative experience with another local AC company, I reached out to Service First Air Conditioning, and from the phone conversation to the service call, this company was and is a step above the rest. They came out to my residence last Thursday morning, provided a thorough evaluation and assessment of my unit (both internal and external), and then took the time to discuss my options. It was indeed time to retire my 21 year old unit, and, after being offered the option of 0% APR for 3 years, I went ahead with a new unit. They came the same day (within the hour) and began to disassemble my old unit, and install the new unit. The entire team, from the service technician Joseph and his apprentice Andres, to the sales representative Omar, to the installation team, Johnny and Javier, every aspect of this transaction was professional, pleasant, organized, thorough, detail oriented, and stellar. They all wore foot covers and were respectful of my home, paying attention to my furniture and carpet, to make sure that nothing was damaged during the installation. Or maybe if you do NOT expect a CPS rebate in the 6-8 weeks quoted to you at the time you signed the sales order for your $9,000 unit. Or maybe if you do NOT expect your rebate compensation within 10 MONTHS of the product instillation date. If these are not the things you look for in a service provider, you are looking in the right place. However, if you DO expect your carpet to not be ruined, or you DO expect not to be sweating the NIGHT you get your unit installed or you DO expect to get your rebate within the appropriate timeframe, you should keep looking for an available service provider. read more

Our air conditioning stopped cooling last week, just before the Easter weekend and we were having family in for the weekend. I stated to call different AC repair companies and the only company that could set an appointment for that day was Service First Air Conditioning, most of the other companies told us no one was available till Monday. I called there office around 3pm and by 4:30 there was a repairman knocking on our door. The repairman was very professional and even wore booties over his shoes while in our house. He checked out or system and replaced the converter, but told us that this was just a temporary fix that our unit was on its last leg. So he gave us some brochures about new units and prices and told us about the tax credits that are being offered from the government and CPS. If you value your property or your family's lives, do NOT rely on their installation. I purchased a new heating/ AC system from them and I am fortunate to have survived. The installation wasn't up to code, that the drain stem was left capped, I had a carbon monoxide leak from the flue pipe being installed incorrectly, ducts were not sealed, no start kit recommended by manufacturer, no drain sensor, and a host of other dangerous and system-threatening problems. It's no wonder that the system didn't result in any savings on my electric bill. I am fortunate that it was mild weather and I hadn't used the furnace during the 2 years following until I became suspicious and had another contractor check the system out. It could have easily been one of those fatal carbon monoxide poisonings you read about in the newspapers... I don't really mind paying the $2400 to the new contractor to fix the problems with Service First's installation when I consider the possible alternatives. Oh, and I have photos. read more

EXCELLENT SERVICE, EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE, CONSIDERATE and HARD WORKING TECHS We consider ourselves lucky to have come across Service First and our technician Joseph was the best. They came out initially to provide a 3rd opinion as I was receiving horrible service from other local companies and they did not pressure me to buy anything- instead took their time explaning the best cost efficient and smartest options for us. We called them back after about a month when our heater finally went out completely during one of the worse coldfronts we have had in San Antonio. To our surprise not only were they here within the half hour, they stayed to ensure that we would get our financing secured and only left to retrieve the system. While other companies would have returned the next day to do the install and left us in a cold house overnight- they started the install at 5pm that same day! Joseph and his tech worked tirelessly till 1am to ensure the system was installed correctly and completely. And to top it off Joseph was back early the next day to make sure we had the correct thermostat installed and everything was working ok! Best experience I've had from any service company EVER! I had an A/C leak in my attic and called them at 4pm on a Saturday. Joseph was awesome. They arrived that evening and after assessing the situation, they let me know that my problem was actually a much smaller fix than I was expecting. What?! Really appreciate the honesty and the quality of work from this company. I am a clean freak so I really appreciate that they were wearing shoe coverings when entering our home. The service guy showed us our filters and explained that they needed changing every 3 months.
