Freedom Pools, Fresno: 2023 Mar to Sep (2.10) Putting in a swimming pool is a huge project. It took us several years of discussion before we finally took this BIG step. Just like purchasing a house, we went through several different emotions; anxiety, confusion, excitement, fear, nervousness, and absolutely stressed-out. After going over the beginning to the end of this six-month long project, I decided to break the work done by the pool company's in-house crew and average the points for this review. Our 31' X 10' swimming pool took 6-months to complete. The entire six months were filled with stress and anxiety, and we nearly called off the built. Our pool is now completed - in time for the cold season. Update from my previously negative review and poor customer service: After months of work to solve our problems left by Freedom pools, we discovered they did not plumb the new lines correctly! Our spa return line was CAPPED OFF and the booster pump inlet was incorrectly plumbed causing our spa to drain every time it was used. Now they are being fixed by a reputable company, and we are finally looking forward to enjoying our pool and spa issue-free. First off all I continued to complain of all the problems I was having with the pool such as cracked concrete, loose rocks on the pool as well as the wrong controller. The company may have saw my controller as an upgrade but for someone that lives in a rural area internet is costly and now I have to have it for my pool. I only had it for my kids during covid but if I could I would have cancelled by now since our phones have internet. To top it off 2 years later and they never once came by to fill the coffee they took off to get to my power. I would never recommend them. The pool came out beautiful. Freedom Pools were the only ones to follow through with the exact measurements and design that I gave them. Covid did add some delays as expected but John kept his word through the entire project. In the end John made sure I had the best equipment and that every minor detail was addressed and if there were any problems John took care of it right away. A small example of that is I didn't like the steps to my spa I thought it came out a little crooked and John had his guys demolish the steps and completely redo it so that it was perfect. He does warranty his work and back his pools so I will keep this review updated on the customer service I receive from them but so far I have no complaints and John The owner is always available to me if I have a question even after he has received his Final payment. When you make this kind of investment you don't want to deal with managers and secretaries, John makes himself available to his customers which I appreciate. Highly recommend ! read more

Do not use this company, especially not for remodels. It may seem like their pricing is good and their contract is legit but they hire second rate subcontractors. We originally went with them because their original quote looked amazing but bait and switch is more like what it was. I had gotten quotes from concrete and pool plaster separately and that is what we should have done. We would have had better quality work done. Instead we trusted this company and their subcontractors and father/son management team are awful. They had to redo their work multiple times putting tile in the wrong places and every time they had to do one thing it would take a month or so before they would return. Took them over 5 months to do what others quoted as a 2 month job. Their concrete subcontractor is the worst though. They broke brand new sprinkler lines, then covered them with concrete and claim that it's on us to fix them which we can't do without redoing the concrete. There is also a large crack in the concrete that we noticed before anyone even stepped foot on the deck a week later. The concrete is also not the color we picked throughout and they missed stamping entire sections right by the pool. If you're remodeling like we did your best bet would be to go with a company known for excellent work like New Image for your pool and a concrete contractor like Ernie Coppo 298-8664 for your deck. He is incredibly knowledgeable especially when laying concrete around pvc piping. We had a landscaper come out and he sees and does concrete work also and said this is some of the worst work he's seen and because of the way it was poured the only way for me to have a green lawn and a working sprinkler system that I just had put in, is to completely rip up the concrete. Hindsight is 20/20 but I hope this helps people to not make the same mistake we did. The owner DID not fix the crack in the concrete as we had discussed. He is dishonest. I also need to add that their electrician did NOT reconnect our hot tub heater correctly so now it also does not work. When asked to fix it, they came out acknowledged their mistake and have since done absolutely nothing to fix it. Also when you hit a hammer into pvc pipe, you know you did it and instead of pouring concrete over it, you should allow the home owner to have it fixed. You need to communicate with your workers and customers as I did agree to a "minor repair" of the crack which the concrete guy said he would "fix tomorrow" about 50 days ago. So yes. I was ok with a minor repair, it never happened, then I realized there were major issues. read more

The reason for giving this business rating of 1 is because 0 (zero) option was not available. Worst ever! They are very nice until you sign the contact and they dig a big hole in your back yard. The 60 days job as indicated by contact has taken over six month and it is NOT done yet. Delay, after delay, excuse after excuse. Every time you call they lie and give a date to come and finish the job and never do. John Stevens, the owner is worst among them. They broke our mail box, damaged our patio, left piles of dirt all over the back yard, Didn't grade the dirt as the suppose to, have not repaired a chipped corner of the pool. They fail to let you know at contract signing how many pools they are behind from the previous year, which then leads to your pool being delayed. Everything started out quick and fast, however, that quickly changed. We would have still been waiting for the pool if we weren't constantly calling and I was finally told they were switching equipment brands and if we wanted to do the switch. Deck has yellow colored steps leading up the spa and the raised wall has a crack that John the owner indicated he will be out to fill and has yet to do so. He says cracks will not get any bigger within time, he clearly didn't know who he was talking to as ALL cracks eventually get bigger within time. Clean up was horrible, they left pallets, bags full of trash, wiring, the list goes on and the ladies in the office are horrible to deal with. I kept getting "I don't know what you are talking about" and was advised that the clean up crew were out already. I eventually sent them pictures of the mess they left. Rebar was exposed pretty much every couple of feet on the other side of the raised wall leading down to the spa and again I got the "I don't know what you are talking about" and AGAIN sent pictures. The owners son came out and cleaned up the mess along with cutting down the rebar after a constant battle with them. Let me just say, for being the owners son you would think he would want to represent the company well, however, he was so rude! He made comments of the yellow colored steps to my husband clearly seeing how ugly the deck pour was, he also kicked some dirt over some pipes that were exposed and said "there it's covered". The neighbor's fence is leaning and is putting pressure on his door which is hard to close and he indicated he won't be fixing it. He clearly doesn't know how to be professional and if I were there he would of been kicked off my property and be told not so nice things. Electrical was another thing, they said they plugged everything and one gentleman came over and realized it hadn't been. The raised wall had holes and exposed piping and when I called the office in regards to someone coming out and filling that in or make it flush they contacted the stone people so when I got a phone call from the mason guys I had to let them know their job was fine and was not sure why they called them to come out and fix something if I didn't complain about the stone work. Once again, there I was calling the office and letting them know and was told oh you can call them and set it up. I was quickly loosing my patience and advised the office staff I will not be doing so as that is why I am paying them and they should be doing such reaching out. Between the office staff to owner there is clearly no communication when it comes to things not being done properly. Expect to receive a letter from the concrete company who poured the deck advising you of a possible lean on your house as the pool company didn't pay the bill. Another thing I had to keep calling the concrete and pool company about as it took well over a month for them to pay. The price of the pool is reasonable, however, do yourself a favor and save yourself from a huge headache and go with another company. No one should have to deal with something like this. I definitely DO NOT recommend this pool company to anybody. It's sort of like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. read more

The contract said the build would be 60 days. But these morons overbooked so the build was 6mos. Being lied to every step of the way. (Salesman said it would be done, when we made the contract) And the last step was to put the power line for the pump, which required cutting my cement. I asked if they were going to be back to fix it (because of other messes left by them) I was guaranteed that they would be back to fix it "good as new" It's been a year (still waiting). They were glad to take our money but treated us as if they were doing us a favor, because it was only a 40,000-dollar pool. They have been in business for thirty years. Next month they may finish their first pool. (sarcasm) So now we still have torn up cement. And the rail they sold us never got installed. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER People ask us who did our pool, And I always tell them find someone who doesn't lie to them. Honesty goes a long way. We didn't like how long it took. But they used covid as an excuse. It's done. But I am still here with a torn-up sidewalk making it hard to even get my trash to the curb. This is a bad pool company:. They take a very long time to finish. If one does not call all the time to ask: nothings gets schedule or done. When one calls most of the staff has no idea of what one is talking about. It is very frustrating. During our pool construction that took over 5 months. They kept a lot of dirt and garbage in the pool and yard including plastic bottles, pieces of plastic tubes, construction debris and boxes for the longest time. They had cleaned the inside of the pool to move forward but the yard they only cleaned at the end, after the pool was already filled with water!! and after I was calling all the time to ask for this. Lastly, there was a particular staff in the office that raised her voice to me and was pretty much rambling , did not let me speak and was quiet rude. They need to work a lot on their customer service skills for sure. read more

I completely, 100% understand the delays in construction due to the pandemic. What I DO NOT understand is the horrible customer service we received. We pay a lot of money for our pool, we are not asking for anything free! Our side entrance looks horrible, our fence has nails sticking out, our neighbors side door doesn't open correctly, we have dirt all over our landscaping, and when I text, call, or email they say to look at our contract that they are not responsible. Although after reading the response to reviews, owner states that it will look back to what it did. This has not happened. Our pool plaster has chipped pieces, our filter system keeps kicking our breaker, making our house loose power every time it turns on. One day in our garage fridge all our food went bad. This should have been done correctly the fist time! This company has caused so much headache and stress. I was told when there is water in the pool the job is done. I just want our pool PROJECT to be complete with everything they ruined fixed and instead we have to pay out of pocket. Extremely unsatisfied with this company and absolutely not recommended. Freedom pools is now facing consequences for their lack of craftsmanship. Freedom pools took me to court because I would not pay the last portion of the contract because John S. never had grotto engineered plans when he started the build. I had to go to the city and then John had to get grotto plans after the build was complete. We never settled in court because this has taken so long and caused our family so much stress we decided to not take them to court. BEWARE of freedom pools CONTRACTS. Freedom pools has a clause in there contract that states when the pool is full of water they are done. So I had to pay the contract and cost of lawyer fees. No one wants to deal with a guy like this BEWARE. John built our pool with no grotto plans and no safety concerns. Our pool sweep has never worked and the plumbing is under concrete so it will take a lot of money to fix it. From getting our permit to construction, everything was right on time and the communication was great. Thank you to John in construction, our sales guy Ron, and our Superintendent John! Very disappointed with the fi ish on our pool. The quartz finish has shoe prints in it, and the umbrella that was installed in the pool is terriblly crooked. We asked for John hn the owner to come and look to fix these issues, and he said nothing could be done. Why pay a small fortune for bad finishes and quality? Our pool was installed in the late summer/early fall of 2016. We were quoted 8 weeks for completion once the permit was approved and the pool was finished in 9. We paid more than other companies quoted us, but the process was so easy and not nearly the headache I had expected after hearing horror stories from friends building pools through other companies. When we were falling a little behind schedule, John was out finishing the rebar to get us back on track. Today, nearly two years later, John came out to check on/fix an issue I had with the lighting. I am not very impressed nor am I satisfied with the lack of communication and customer relation skills that this business owner has practiced while building my pool. This is a large home improvement project that has already been costly and yet the owner of this company and the designer failed to inform me of the nessesities that my previously existing noncompliant rv and pedestrian gates would need to have our pool pass the cities safety inspection. When my pool was being planned and measured for its design, My RV and pedestrian gates were in poor shape and I informed the surveyor / designer that I was intending to have new gates built before the pool was completed. My gates were in the construction process during several of the pool contractors visits. It was not until the gates were completed and not in compliance with the city codes that the pool contractor thought about informing me of the City gate regulations for having a swimming pool. He then passes the fault and tells me my fence contractor should of known the cities swimming pool codes and that he can't help to make my gate compliant. He insted informs me that he has a friend who does that work. I am now at a loss of the fences cost and a days business due to poor communication and negligence. In my previous construction experiences, I would not to hold a professional of one trade accountable to inform me of a different businesses rules and regulations that he does not practice. In the sense I would not hold auto oil changers accountable to tell me the clean air smog laws just because they work on cars. I would expect that information to be provided by a smog technician. Please be careful if you choose to employ this company and do not expect full disclosure up front . Ask every question possible. read more

We are currently having them build our pool. We are beyond impressed with them. From the initial meeting to design to customer service. Rita in the office is on it. I called about the water pooling from the rain, they were out within a day to pump it out. Again with the rain, they were out to pump it out the following business day. We have made some changes, and every request is handled within a few hours. They have really bent over backwards for us. They can not control the rain, but they are making this process as painless as they can. Every crew member that has been here has been great, very nice and is willing to answer all my 50,000 questions. This company in my opinion has a high standard for customer service, which is lacking in society these days. Now on to the most important part, the price, can't be beat. I got 6 bids for the pool. I don't know how they do it but, they were the only company to actually LISTEN to what we wanted and come in upwards of 18,000 cheaper! They have made this very unpleasant time bearable with their attention. Thank you freedom pools Update: pool was completed in April! It is seamless! Not one issue. We could not be happier. I meant to update this sooner but simply forgot. What brings it to my attention was a form from the county assessor, 5 almost 6 months after completion. Anyway, I call Ms. Rita, she asked me to send it to her and she would take care of it. Not surprised, it is all dealt with. From start to 6 months after completion, they are still there and on it. Over 1 year later, I think the small earthquake we experienced recently caused a small gas leak in line going to spa. I called John and he sent someone out to fix it, rather quickly. Again another example of a contractor going out of his way to fix something that he could have easily deferred since it was not leaking when inspected. We have spent more time in our backyard this past year than we have the previous 14 years in this house. I hated my old pool, it was ugly to look at and I hated spending so much money on chemicals and PGE. Now every morning when the spa overflow is running I enjoy listening to the water and relaxing in my backyard. I just wish I would've added some tiles to the steps to make them stand out better. I was trying to save as much as possible and didn't think to do that. My old pool had them and they are worth it. So if you are thinking of doing something to your pool when planning go for it otherwise you will regret it a year later. read more

Worst company! Freedom Pools was installing a pool next door to me. They broke my fence and did a half fast job repairing it. Dirt and plaster mixed into my grass, flower beds and rock. I would come home from work every day to find trash thrown over my fence. I've contacted Freedom pools to talk to someone and was told that they would look into it. My wife also contacted them but was ignored. I don't know about the quality of the pool but there employes are slobs! Also the pool took about a month longer to complete. read more

I am writing this review after having my pool built over a year ago by John and his team.I hardly ever write reviews but I feel a necessity to do so now. John built my pool and it came out just fine , it was a standard pool with a back wall and some sheers it looks nice.But the reason I feel a need to write a review is because of his after the pool is built service John gives.I have never owned a pool before so I have called John over a half dozen times in the 15 months for various reasons and he always answers my calls happily. He always sends his guys over to take a look at my issues. One time my gardener chipped my concrete and damaged my pool decking drain, John sent a guy out and repaired it for free. Another time after cleaning my pool filters I ( being a new pool owner ) put the basket it wrong disrupting the flow of water to the pump and it was making a terrible noise. I called John and he had me put the pump in service mode and his right hand man Corey and his partner Terry came out and explained what I did wrong. Seeing my backyard also had a lot of leaves they recommended I use a leave filter and it has work wonders. Today what prompted me to write was I woke up to my pump making noise and and my pool sweep not working properly and I called John. He answered the phone. It was 7:10 am on Sunday. He told me to put my pump back in service mode and Corey will check on it tomorrow . I don't know what the problem is but I know John will treat me fairly. read more

My neighbor has contracted Freedom pools to install their new pool. Their workers or subcontracted workers have broken the fence and killed and damaged plants in a border plot between our driveways. They showed up at 6:30 am to loudly discuss and start the gunite process- in the meantime, they block my driveway. My neighbor assures me that they will fix the fence. It's been 3 weeks since it was broken, so we shall see if they do repair the damages they have made. I'm definitely not happy nor impressed with them. read more

They were great to get my business in the beginning. From the pool designing to coming out and talking to us. Took them almost a month longer than what they had told us. When they were done and paid, there was a leak. It was obvious from the wetness where the pipes are leading towards the pump. I called many times, spoke to John himself. When I finally got a hold of him (after no call backs) he said he'll come out personally to check on it that Saturday morning. Sure enough, he never showed. I called him many times and left messages, no call back, no show. We called back after about trying for 3 weeks to getting in touch with the office and John, we finally got to talk to John, told him about how disappointed we were and that we trusted their company to build our pool. He cut us off and told us that it wasn't his problem, to call the office and get the number to the contractor he contracted with and hung up on us. The contractor was way much better to talk to. He even told us that this wasn't a few hundred dollar investment and sent his people over the following week to replaster the pool. You would have thought that freedom pool was the one you paid and if they contracted out, they would apologize for the problem and assure you that they'll contact the plaster place but no such thing. They cut off a pipe and never fixed it after reminding them many times. And every time there was an excuse, it was never fixed. The cement they poured buy the power box cracked. It was only 2 inch wide and about a yard long. I took a picture and sent it to John. Of course he ignored it. He only responds to you as he sees fit. Once he gets your money, they're not interested in you and the problems they created. I would never ever recommend them to anyone. Don't be fooled by the pretty computer graphics design of the pool and the promises Freedom Pool pitch to you. read more

I had a pool put in my backyard. Freedom pools had it finished within 5 weeks.By the time I had called them and had it set up they weren't able to get started until the first week of June. I was so worried my family would be able to use it that summer, we were swimming by the 4th of July! They were fast, efficient, dependable and considerate. John Stephens, the owner is one of the nicest, friendly, honest people I have ever met in my life. His foreman Dave and his sales rep. Brian were professional and kind. My pool was one of the best decisions I ever made. It's been 2 years since they did the work and I've called all 3 of them many times.They always answered or returned my calls immediately and assisted and helped me with any questions or concerns that ever came up. My pool turned out beautiful and has added months of enjoyment for my family and friends and added value to our home.
