When you consider having someone cut into your eyeballs for cataract surgery, you have to consider…read moreVERY carefully who that someone will be.  Once my optometrist determined that my cataracts were ready to be surgically removed, she provided me two names of qualified surgeons and having reviewed each surgeon's background & qualifications, I chose to go with Sherri Rowen, MD (NVision) in Newport Beach.  To say I was supremely nervous is understating how I felt, and Dr. Rowen calmly answered (more than once, and more than twice) my questions about types of lens implants, the pros and cons of each, and what to realistically expect from each type of lens.  Dr. Rowen even responded to my voicemail on a Sunday (which happened to be a serious holiday) and prior to my first surgery reviewed once again the pros and cons of each type of lens.  More positive input is that NVision timely communicated with me regarding various aspects and medications (eyedrops) for each of my surgeries/procedures, and even more positive input is that the surgery center where the procedures took place was very easy to find, clean & well organized, with excellent staff who helped make the process much easier than I thought it would be.  Post-surgery checks with NVision and my optometrist went well, and post-surgical LASIK touch-ups and YAG procedures with Dr. Rowen went very well.  I truly encourage you to consider the well-known phrase, "You get what you pay for," and I'm truly grateful for Dr. Rowen's knowledge, skills, experience, patience, and care.

Before seeing Dr. Kohan I looked up the disorder on the internet and became very worried and concerned. I was a nervous wreck until I saw this doctor. She has an aura about her of calmness and caring. She told me that narrow angle is a very rare disorder but that if I did have it that it is easily remedied. She immediately made me feel comfortable and quickly explained how she could help me if I did in fact have this disorder. She gave me a very thorough exam and reassured me that I in fact did NOT have this disorder. When she dilated my eyes she even let me stay in the exam room and not have to go into the waiting room since she saw how nervous I was. She did caution me that one of my eyes had a slightly elevated pressure and I need to return in six month to monitor the possibility of glaucoma development. I have never had a doctor who I so immediately felt comfortable with and I am hoping she will be someone that I can see for all my future eye appointments. Sincerely Elaine Baker

This is the same staff who had informed me that their computer problem could not be addressed since the doctor was on vacation and computer issues would not be addressed until his return. The doctor seemed to lose patients with me when I had pointed out a problem occurring near my eyes. An incompetent doctor informed me that an M.D. "would not go anywhere near my eyes". I shared this with Dr. Noguchi who became incensed that he was asked to check the problem. Upon completion he stated, "well now you can't return until the beginning of 2026." I am now have to search for another doctor.

He refused to do Lasik on me because he said that I had too many eye problems for Lasik/similar eye procedures. He told me to never let anyone talk me into Lasik because I was too high risk. This is after spending his office time/free tests in preparation for the Lasik consult. I don't know if Dr.May still does free Lasik consult, but if he does, you should totally meet him to see if he is the right Lasik surgeon for you. Price is important, but then again, so are your eyes.

The procedure was performed at USC hospital, where Dr. May is a professor. This is a good sign, in my opinion, since he is obviously an expert in his field. Also, since he performs the procedures at the hospital, he does not have to try to "recruit" patients to amortize an expensive Lasik machine. Therefore, he is able to be selective with his patients, and only perform Lasik or similar eye procedures on suitable candidates. I am very happy with him! And I am so happy with the result. My vision was so poor, and now, these many years later, it is still perfect due to Dr. May.

After several consults, we settled on a price that was reasonable for the surgery. All the sudden on the final consult before scheduling the surgery, the surgeon complains that the price is too low for the amount of work he needs to do on my eye and that he would have to make incisions on my eyelids (causes scarring and is extremely painful). He has never made that comment before until now. Apparently it will make the work "easier" for him for how much it will cost and that other lasik doctors would do the same. I went and consulted with two other surgeons (most likely more reputable than him) and mentioned that. None of them said they would need to do that for my eye. Dr. Lee here is a liar! He acts like he is the only eye surgeon who performs lasik around here and criticizes others. He states he does not care about money but has the nerve to tell me that the amount he would be getting from me is all the sudden too cheap. He also says he is a humble guy but during every single consult he spends the entire time talking about himself. This guy even admitted he "experiments" without our consent. He told me the story of how he placed alcohol in the eyes of one of his clients because she developed an infection. He said it's not fda approved but did it anyways. I don't know about you, but I personally don't want to be an experiment to anyone. Avoid this doctor at all costs. There are plenty of other lasik surgeons out there who do much better jobs and are honest.

The waits are long (30+ min with appt), and I've had my appointments changed from the Artesia location to Ktown LA the day before multiple times. - My eyes regressed within a year about ~1.00 and I had to do an enhancement. I went in for my surgery and he did only one eye before telling me to come back another day to do the other. Apparently, I'm very difficult, even though I have no history of anxiety? He made me feel terrible. Of course there were no available appointments for a whole month. I was seeing clear in one eye and extremely blurry in the other for a month. Cue headaches. - Post enhancement, I'm still not seeing clearly in one eye. Pros: - Price for surgeries here are half the cost of most western offices. - Medical assistants and other doctors who assist with check-ups are super sweet and professional.
