Further - they now charge you upfront money beyond your co-pay prior to submitting to your insurance. they are profiteers. You have been warned. Note: this is the second bad office experience I've had with them and the first time ever I've had an issue at a doctor's office in 45 years. I was reluctant to undergo a procedure on the eyes, and although I knew how safe it was, I couldn't help but worry. Furthermore, upon consultation it turned out I required two different procedures: a LASIK on one eye and a PRK on the other. It doesn't happen often, but Dr. Christian delighted me with his bedside manner and, at the same time, gave me confidence in his expertise and ability to perform the surgery right, which definitely balanced out my anxiety about the surgery. The office staff was helpful guiding and preparing me for the procedure and I want to send them a special "thank you". Now, 4 weeks post-surgery I have no regrets and I am infinitely grateful to Dr. Christian for fixing my sight and making the whole process seamless and worry-free.

I was given paperwork discussing the differences between the standard approach and laser and how it was a choice. The risks and benefits or both approaches are equivalent - google that with the Assn of Opthalmologists. And that's why medicare doesn't cover laser though they cover cataract surgery. But when it came to the day prior to surgery, Dr. Elander said he only does the laser procedure. He is pleasant although very short on answering questions. His front staff made several mistakes including giving me a sample glaucoma drops instead of artificial tears! No, I don't have glaucoma. Despite my issues, I have no doubt that Dr. Elander is an excellent surgeon and my cataract surgery went perfectly.

AMAZING! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!…read more 6 months ago I had a LASIK performed by Dr. Khodabakhsh and that has been the best money I have ever spent in my life. After calling around looking for the surgeon that I would trust, I was recommended Dr.Khodabakhsh by a friend. I called and had the sweetest front desk lady explain me everything in detail, answer all my questions and book a consultation. I went to the consultation (which is free) and instantly felt that I was in a right place. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly, professional and helpful. Dr. Khodabakhsh is very knowledgeable and makes you feel important and taken care of as a patient. I never felt rushed or pushed into anything. I decided to go through with the surgery and asked the Doctor to do it as soon as possible. My consultation was on Monday and on that following Wednesday I was already scheduled in for LASIK. Surgery went with no problems and I was done with the whole experience in less than 30 minutes. Doctor provided me with all the medication I would need for after surgery. Next day I woke up and could see! It was a bit blurry but already amazing. The procedure included 4 additional check-ups, during which Doctor made sure that I completely understand where in the process of healing I am. 6 months later, my eyes are amazing. My vision is perfect and I am so happy I went for it, especially with such an amazing Doctor. Realistically, my vision has been amazing ever since 2nd day post surgery and I was able to go back to work 1st day after surgery. Doctor is so great that I will keep coming for yearly check ups regularly.

I regret trusting Dr. Khodabakhsh, who performed a femtolaser assisted cataract surgery on my left…read moreeye using a light adjustable lens (LAL) last year. He's supposed to be the best, but his treatment led to months of misery both for my vision and time wasted trying to get reimbursed for procedures that ended up being covered by insurance and being double billed for the lens. While my treated eye is functional, it's not optimal nor what he promised. If you see Dr. K., do not trust him that everything is out of pocket, ask him to submit insurance claims for everything even if he tells you no insurance will ever cover it (it's up to the insurance to determine that) and get a written quote for anything out of pocket. If you end up prepaying for supposedly "noncovered services," make him put in the contract that he will reimburse you the excess should insurance cover the procedure. Pay close attention to your insurance claims so you do not get double billed by Dr. K and the Surgery Center. Also, do not let Dr. K.'s office use your credit card to pay the referring optometrist. Details are as follows: 1) He convinced me to get an expensive LAL lens that would allow him to adjust my vision post-surgery if his prediction of the lens power was off pre-surgery. He did not disclose that he would be making me so farsighted after the surgery that I could not read my phone without holding it 2 feet away! He assumed I knew so he could "fix" the power later. This caused a huge problem between my normal untreated eye and the surgical eye; I ended up getting a needle stick at work a week after the surgery-Dr. K. did not care when I told him. This is not proper informed consent. He also misled me when he said I would not need glasses if I picked the LAL lens; I ended up compromising far vision to get reasonable near vision without reading glasses 2) He told me that the LAL lens, the femtolaser (instead of a traditional scalpel) and the laser treatments to adjust the lens power were not covered by insurance, quoting me $9000 (later discounted to $8000). My research showed that this was about double what others were charging. I decided to proceed since this was for my eye and he was supposed to be the "best." 3) After the surgery, I found out that my insurance covered all of what Dr. K said was out of pocket. My insurance allotted $2100 to the Surgery Center (of which Dr. K is a part owner) for my lens! That meant that I had paid for the lens twice-first to Dr. K. for the lens package before the surgery and then again as part of my coinsurance to the Surgery Center. The Surgery Center eventually gave me back the coinsurance for the lens, but Dr. K.'s office refused to submit an insurance claim for the lens and tried to prevent me from submitting my own claim by saying it would be "medical fraud" for me to claim the lens using Dr. K's tax ID #; since Dr. K did not purchase the lens directly from the manufacturer (he bought the lens from the Surgery Center), he was not allowed to bill insurance for it (but he billed me!). Fortunately, my insurance company helped me get Dr. K's tax ID # (he refused to provide it) and file the claim; insurance approved all the procedure codes (with allowable contracted amounts-about 50% of the out of pocket charge); but Dr. K never gave me back the excess out of pocket charge. 4) He has a suspicious deal with my optometrist. His surgical coordinator called me to charge my credit card $8000 the day before the surgery, but then charged $1000 on my card to my optometrist and $7000 to Dr. K's office. It made it look like I was the one paying the optometrist willingly with my credit card, circumventing the appearance of Dr. K. paying the optometrist for my referral. Dr. K's coordinator kept on trying to get me to see my optometrist for the post-op visits, but I never did. I insisted on following up with Dr. K, but his office blocked that and scheduled me with an optometrist working for Dr. K. However, even if I did see the referring optometrist post-op, he would not have been entitled to the out of pocket payment. Aftercare within 90 days post cataract surgery is covered by the insurance payment for the surgery even if it is provided by an optometrist. Seeing me for a vision check without providing laser treatment on the lens would only allow the optometrist to get paid out of the cataract surgery insurance payment, not a portion of my out of pocket payment. I confronted the referring optometrist who first tried to claim that the yearly routine vision screening paid for by my vision insurance was the "pre-op" for the cataract surgery, but then eventually gave me back the $1000 as he had not participated in the surgery/aftercare. However, he made me sign something saying it was a "system error" as his office does a lot of business/referrals with Dr. K's office. Overall, the most horrid medical experience I have ever had. Stay away unless you want to be deceived, overcharged and disregarded!

But just like most places there was no personal comfort and care like a place like the Vision Institute. After much research and second opinion after 3rd or more I made a visit to this place months ago. Right away I was seen, cared for like no other. The first lady I dealt with asked me so many valuable questions, and assured my presence there was important as it should be. I felt safe and comfortable right away. I met Dr. Hura for the first time that day and I was relieved to know he also was extremely helpful and amazing to answer my questions and share the right information to make me feel at home. The 2nd visit was to dilatate, do measurements, and get me ready for a possible surgery. That day was even better, being cared for and treated like a human being would want felt great. My worries of eye vision lost or any other things was going down. The Surgery Day at Specialty Surgical Center was even better, the Nurses, the Anesthesia specialist, the O.R. Nurse, Surgical tech, and the Recovery Nurse were all patient with me, and made me feel at home again. Made me feel safe and communicated with me always. Surgery was completed and I did not feel any pain or discomfort. Just a little anxiety on my end. Went home rested, for the first 2 days I stayed home and just relaxed and could tell my vision get better every day. Eye drops, and just rest made it hard to do as an active person I am. But day 3 I went back to work with ease and now after about a week and a half. My vision is on the last 3rd base with a homerun in the horizon! He authored in entirety a textbook on cataract surgery which has gone through 5 editions, he has patented 20 tools for cataract surgery, and he is a professor. At no time did he push surgery, and he even mentioned other surgeons who could also do a good job. In addition to telling me about the intra ocular lens that he recommends for me at this time (i.e. the Symfony), he also told me that I might want to wait for the PureSee iol which will be available late in 2026. Also he told me that I have an eye tearing deficiency that merits being addressed. No other cataract surgeon (of the other 3 that I visited) detected this issue. I found him to be calm, detailed, and very friendly and helpful. The rest of his staff is the same.

Dr. Nakagawa has been an absolute saint. My son has been dealing with a horrible eye trauma. He…read morecouldn't see, the eye was supremely red and irritated, to the point where the only relief he could find was being in a totally dark room with sunglasses on. We went to see Dr. Nakagawa and were immediately given hope. He took a look as best he could since my son was in so much pain he could barely stand to open his eye. He felt fairly certain that my son had something called iritis - which is where the actual iris of the eye becomes swollen and inflamed. It's not a very common condition but my oldest son has it too. He prescribed drops and patiently explained his findings to us and asked to see him again the following week. Things have literally been looking better and better for my son under Dr. Nakagawa's care, and we have been doing weekly follow-ups until his ey completely returns to normal. The Dr. explained that it is a chronic condition with genetic markers that my son will probably have to deal with for his entire life, but that it can be managed with different eyedrops. Every time we visit, he is kind, compassionate and patient, and takes the time to thoroughly explain everything. Grateful to have found this wonderful doctor!
