I had no problem with the last doctor who's place it was before he retired. I came with my two young ones. Felt like the secretary had A grudge the minute she saw me/ us! She asked for my insurance card and I happened to not have . I've worked in the medical field many years I know that they have the card number as they needed to receive an authorization for us to be seen with the number on it. She intentionally wanted to give me a hard time and said no we don't look on papers or do anything to find your number you need your card. She basically told me to sit down and call my insurance or figure it out. They started bickering about my kids and the masks. They are kids , They play , they come off. This is a pediatric office and I told them they were very unprofessional, being pediatric you should be especially understanding . Rude sarcastic manager came out because the secretary clearly had a problem with me and complained, and told us they were canceling our appointment. We waited over 6 months I think longer actually. If the whole covid situation makes you mad,, if kids make you mad , if working and getting an ID number makes you mad , STAY HOME. I will be reporting further about my horrible experience here. Completely unprofessional

Dr. Sherif El-Harazi is both personable and efficient; things that should be noteworthy. And so…read morethey are. The rest of the staff however, while friendly enough, never seem to get things right in an acceptable range. They overbook quite often, squashing as many people as possible into the smallish waiting areas. If you have an appointment on these days expect to wait over an hour to see anyone. And they sometimes forget where they put you -- meaning you have to stick your head out of the room like a turtle, asking "Um, I've been put in here for almost 30 minutes?" and having staff gape and gasp at you because they'd lost you! Dr. Kay Park was my surgeon and I have to say she has a most excellent bedside manner. Kind, soft-voiced and extremely patient. She took good time to explain the procedure and on operation day was very encouraging. She even ordered me up a post-op muffin! I really have to say that I have no hard feelings over some of the minor incompetencies in their offices, because at the end of the day my cataracts were removed and I can see again. That almost makes up for everything, no?

DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT W/ DR. ZARATE. You are far better off going to a professional and…read morecompetent eye doctor in Glendale. Dr.Zarate does not care to update her practice in 2025 or take proactive steps to rectify her practice's wrong and ensure other patients don't fall victim to her negligence. Dr. Zarate is listed as a provider under my insurance. The receptionist booked an appointment for me ONE MONTH out and said Dr. Zarate took my insurance. The receptionist called to confirm my appointment the day prior. I went to my appointment after requesting time off work in advance and they said she doesn't take my insurance. I told them that contradicts what your receptionist who booked this appointment said. Dr. Zarate is listed as a provider in the provider list my insurance had physically mailed me along with my insurance card and that she is currently listed as a provider on the insurance website. They said she use to take that insurance but not anymore. Knowing this was the only day I could take time off work to go see an eye doctor and knowing that all I required from this appointment is for the doctor to simply sign off on the same eye contact prescription that I have had for 14 years, I said how much can I pay out of pocket to get her to sign a new prescription so I can buy my yearly contacts (which was the entire point of my appointment) she said $250 :) These people did not want to work with me on fixing THEIR mistake, nor did they sense the urgency in my visit or even bother to apologize. Did they say they would fix this with the insurance, so that it wouldn't happen to another patient? Absolutely not, because they don't care if it happens again. This practice is stuck in the dark ages along with the archaic and filthy waiting room chairs. To finish off the rude and unprofessional interaction the woman told me I had to pay $2 for validation. How insane do you have to be to bring someone to your practice to not see them and at the end ask them to pay for parking for THEM wasting your time and money. Avoid going here.

The receptionist calls me over and informs me that I will not be able to be seen today because my insurance only covers the other doctor at that clinic and not it does not cover Dr. Zarate. I really don't understand why they did not check my insurance when I made my appointment over a month ago, when they called me yesterday for an appointment reminder, or when I first got to my appointment. Instead, they charge my copay and then wait 45 minutes to figure this, and then tell me I need to reschedule. After all that, they were not able to squeeze me in for an earlier appointment, instead they give me an appointment an entire month out. I'm extremely disappointed and wasted a lot of time for no reason.

I've been to Sunset Optometric Center for two annual eye exams now. I had switched over from…read moreanother optometry office simply because it was further away and there are plenty of optometric care providers in LA that you shouldn't necessarily have to travel all that far. For me, I feel like eye care is something I'm less in tune with. It's different from seeing your primary care physician, or even a dentist. For me and many others, it often feels like a means to an end to get your yearly supply of contacts, and I was always unsatisfied with that type of experience. Your eyes need just as much care as other parts of your body and you should take ownership over seeking out optometric care that educates you about your eye health and how your eyes are progressing. After having contacts for 20 years, I felt like I should know more than I did! So I was looking for that education and care in Sunset Optometric Center when I think the default for many is to just get your yearly eye exam, get your contacts, and not think about it for another year. During my most recent appointment, I needed some emergency contacts for a trip to Germany the day before my flight. I ended up just using that opportunity to have my yearly eye exam with Dr. Canlas. During this appointment, I finally felt like everything clicked with my eye care. Dr. Canlas, I feel, is totally on my speed. She didn't spare any explanations for what was going on with my eye health, what I could expect in the future, and maybe what I should start thinking about doing in regards to new contacts, lasik, etc. Because she was so open about educating me about my eyes, I felt more comfortable to ask her all the questions I had on my mind. I think that is the #1 most important thing any healthcare provider can foster in their office - that patients feel comfortable asking all of their (sometimes uneducated!) questions. I left my visit feeling much more knowledgeable about my eye health. I also felt more comfortable switching to daily contacts, which optometrists have been trying to get me to do for ages. Dr. Canlas helped me pull that trigger! Anyone and everyone should go to Sunset Optometric Center!!!

I came in hoping to switch from glasses to multifocal contacts for more flexibility in daily life…read more I was fitted with Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocals, but unfortunately, the lenses haven't worked well for me. Indoors or in low lighting, my vision is sharp and comfortable. But the moment I step outside into bright daylight, everything goes noticeably blurry -- to the point where I question whether wearing them is even worth it. After doing some research and testing things on my own, I suspect the issue has to do with how my pupils respond to light. In bright conditions, they constrict, and that seems to interfere with how the multifocal zones line up. It's frustrating that this wasn't explained or factored into the fitting process. To make things worse, my mild astigmatism wasn't accounted for. Between that and the blurry daytime vision, these lenses just don't deliver what I was hoping for. I already purchased a three-month supply, so now I'm stuck trying to manage until I can reorder. The doctor repeatedly said, "Multifocals are a compromise," which in hindsight felt like code for "we don't really expect these to work well in all situations." I wish that trade-off had been made clearer upfront. The office itself was professional and clean, and the staff were courteous -- but the fitting didn't feel personalized, and that really matters when it comes to something as sensitive and specific as vision. I'd recommend asking a lot of questions and making sure your unique needs are being considered before committing to a full supply.
