AMAZING BAR AND SERVICE!!!! We were going to the Barclays Center for an event, and googled bars near the Barclays Center to get a quick bite and some drinks, out of all the recommendations Freddy's Bar stood out, not to mention the raving reviews. From the moment we walked in we knew we had made the right choice. Bartender was very warm and friendly, atmosphere was relaxed, and the tv screens played trippy videos which I thought was awesome. Drinks were cheap, and good, they have some signature cocktails. I tried the Grumpy Old man and 007, which were good and strong. Food was above standard for bar grub. We has a cheeseburger with tots, burger was juicy and tots were crunchy, not those soggy tots you get everywhere else, the chipotle mayo the cook recommended for the tots was delicious! Thanks! I'd never been to the old Freddy's, but I keep hearing about it, and I got into a conversation with the bartender about it at the new Freddy's on 5th Ave. Apparently they pulled the bar out of the old place and set it up anew to keep the vibe intact. This place has a dive bar feel, with some extra oomph. If i recall, the walls are wood paneled, which gives a kind of hunting cabin feel to the place, but these are matched with the obligatory brooklyny, hippstery (for lack of a better word) paraphernalia.. The bartenders are friendly and cool, pretty much, there is a lot of space to hang out it, and it does get busy. No food, unfortunately. read more

Good spot. Found this on my walk around Brooklyn. There is nothing fancy about this place, but the atmosphere is great. Very chill, with an awesome vibe that something great is going to happen. Love the old movie clips playing on the TV. Food here is great as well. Went for the Ruben. A slight bit salty, but I believe that was the bread which from what I read on the menu is locally sourced, so could have been just the loaf it came from. That was my only constructive piece. Aside from that everything was great. They do have live music which was in the process of setting up as I left. I gather that is a popular activity there are the bar certainly started to pick up as the band was setting up. read more

Dive bar, Brooklyn Style. One TV playing tongue-in-cheek 60's movies with shirtless surfer dudes winking at girls dressed like Wilma Flinstone; the other plays Mets/Yankee games. Police officers from the nearby station go for a drink after their shifts. You can smoke Camels freely. A lot of wood. Cheap beer. A jukebox. Get away from it all. Soon to be shut down to make room for condos and a Chipotle as part of the "revamping" of the area for the upcoming Brooklyn Nets monstrosity. read more

My friend and I just stopped in here when we were walking around and wanted a bite to eat. The menu was good for a bar; she got the two hot dogs with cole slaw and I got a cheeseburger with fries. My burger was nothing special, but it wasn't bad. The fries were very good. My friend said her hot dogs were very good - I'd like to return to try those! Everything was very reasonably-priced; our meals were $9 each. The downside: they don't take cards, and no one told us that until we had already ordered our food and went to pay. We had to walk to a nearby ATM which charged a fee. Just make sure you have cash if you come here. The live entertainment looked cool and I'd like to return soon in the evening for drinks! read more

Very cool local South Slope bar which also serves food. Check out the aquarium in the back of the bar. They have some crazy looking frogs swimming around. They serve food out of the kitchen window area. The food is good and open late. Pay for the food, get your ticket, and pick it up in a few mins. Sort of self service. Live music is great here also. read more

Run, don't walk, to 485 DEAN STREET and spend the night at Freddy's! Great beer on tap including Blue Point Toasted, which got me toasted last night. LOLOLOLOL!!!! Hang out in the back room to stare at a drum kit and upright bass played by nobody!! Great vibe, great people, tiny bathrooms. The lady's room is nicer as I accidententally learned. That's 485 DEAN STREET. Write that down. 485 DEAN STREET. I'm sure it'll be the place to go for hours to come!! ALso there are chains on the bar. Not sure why. read more

Really cool spot, has an old goth-type look to it and a nice setup. Lots of space to sit with a group or just do your normal bar thing standing. Theres a small room in the back for live music, some tables back there too so you can only fit about 20 people standing Drink prices are good, the outside of the place would make you think dive but it's not its a bit better inside IMHO. Solid overall spot to hang out, i like the old signs and newspaper clippings on the walls. The absolute best thing is the trippy old infomercials they keep on loop on some of the TV's! read more

This is an amazing dive bar! It's fun, busy, neigborhoody and amazingly decorated. They have comfortable booths and a good looking bar. They allow dogs inside! Also there is a fun backroom with music - fun! The bartenders were attentive and drinks were mean! Great spot! read more

Atmosphere: Dark, quiet, little spot with local bands playing some tunes and drinks that will warm you up in the winter. There is a tank with fish and frogs and let me tell you, those frogs are CREEPY. They don't move and just stare out at you for hours, but it makes for slightly tipsy amusement. Drinks: Had some cocktail with champagne and st. germain which was pretty on point. We bought shots for the birthday girl and the bartender was unsatisfied with how he made the shots, so he gave it to us on the house, even though we thought they were still bomb. Cheers to you, Mr. Nice Bartender! Food: I arrived sadly after everyone ate, but I am sure it is typical bar bites. Quesadillas, tater tot nachos, and other finger food fried snacks can be found on the menu. Overall: I recommend for a low key friday or saturday night if you want to catch up with some friends, eat something fried, drink something tasty, and chill with some immobile frogs. read more

Found this gem of a place on Yelp and was very impressed by the place. Nice bar and settings arrangements in the front and a even better down to earth back room with live karaoke, at least on this Thursday night. The only lackluster thing was that there's no waiter service and you gotta order the drinks and food at a seperate counters, otherwise it's is a nice atmosphere with very pleasant and friendly people. read more

GREAT bar for real! Atmosphere for days, friendly help, extensive offerings in the low-brow, middle-brow, and somewhat high-brow range. This is a bar like they just don't make 'em anymore. A bar with longtime regulars so loyal that they followed the move to the current location when the mighty Barclay's Center demanded the building they were housed in. To this day there are chains attached to the front of the bar where people handcuffed themselves in protest of their closing. Great video montages, great feel, great mood, great food, great live area (which I was blessed to play last summer). First off, I could never find a bar in brooklyn that carried Abita. I was super ecstatic when I learned that they did! Secondly, i can live off of their tater tots smothered in heaven. Yes. Yes, I can. Get the "Tots A' La Freddy", they are covered in love, aka: bacon, cheese, gravy and scallions. I have never had a bad experience at Freddy's. The bartenders are awesome, the food is fabulous, and live events occur basically every night here. You can be certain you'll have a great time when you arrive. read more

They charged me $3.00 for a seltzer and told me the charge was because I didn't order any alcohol. Never mind the fact that I ordered food. When I told them I couldn't drink because I'm pregnant they said they didn't care. Seriously never been made to feel so bad about myself by a bar tender. Such a shame because I came here with friends in the past and had a great time. Never coming back. Wouldn't recommend this place for pregnant women or alcoholics. read more

Visited Freddy's for a film screening in their back room. Staff was friendly, pointing me in the right direction and explaining the quirky food ordering system which entails ordering at the food window, paying at the bar, watching for your order number on small mounted TV screens and returning to the food window for pick up. Food is standard bar fare... no fireworks... but there is a great selection of beer including my new found favorite, Duval, a complex Belgian pale ale that hit the spot... a few times! Loved the quirky decor including the videos of vintage footage and the feline with an insatiable appetite for milk... and the armed swivel stools at the bar. There's ample seating and a small outdoor seating area in the back. Felt warmly welcomed and at home on my first visit. Will definitely keep Freddy's in mind when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I was booked to do stand up comedy at a show at your bar and I was unaware of the vaccination card requirement prior to my arrival because the producer of the show didn't share that information. Your bartender, I assume frustrated with the fact that people were showing up without vaccination cards became irate. Another group was trying to explain they were vaccinated and they forgot their card and he lost his temperament and began banging the bar cabinets and counters. As I was saying bye to the woman who was running the show he started yelling at me to "get the f**K out and say bye the f**k outside." I was infuriated that I was disrespected by your bartender consequently causing a scene in the whole bar. This was disturbing especially since I was leaving anyways to follow the rules. This man should be fired immediately seeing as that is how he handles a stressful day and decides to project his frustrations on strangers. read more

Went here for live music. The music was good. It's in a back room which is hard to find. It's nice that the music is separate, but they have bizarre doors and it gets really crowded. There are also bizarre images projected on a screen. For me the location isn't super convenient, you have to walk way down 5th. read more

So the first review I read is from David K. who wants to be a complete scum bag (made me laugh) and here I am, one of those annoying married couple people writing a review so I hope I don't really ruin it for him... We arranged a 50th birthday party for our friend in Freddy's back room. We were a bunch of amateur musicians and people who like to sing (some of us, quite badly). Freddy's has a bunch of equipment and they helped to set up and break down after the party. My friend's husband ordered food and I was prepared for pretty crappy stuff and was thrilled with the sandwiches (kielbasa and veggie) and quesadillas (chicken and veggie) and guac and salad. Most importantly, the Guinness was good. They were completely accommodating and helpful, we were noisy and as raucous as a bunch of late 40s/50 somethings can be. When the door to the back room was closed, you couldn't hear a bit of our caterwauling in the front - which I'm sure was a relief to the others in the bar. I was really impressed with the staff and the set up and will come back for nights out without my kid. Or maybe I'll annoy David K. and bring my son. ;-) And, for those who love animals, I just learned this: July 18th at 5pm/6pm 5th Ave will be closed to traffic and Freddy's is having a Doggy Fashion Show in the Street, casual but with prizes (furnished by Petland Discounts) and Free Doggy swag (+ Beer Specials), Live Music by the Jug Addicts, Comic Hosts (Comedy Central) + Gowanus Circus...a portion of beer sales to go to Brklyn No-Kill Shelter. So bring your doggies on down in their best outfits. read more

I came here about a week ago just to do something with my girlfriend I was so pleasantly surprised The bar is clean and nicely done. The staff seemed friendly enough. But I had the most fun listening to the hilarious line up. There were about 7-8 comedians. No cover no minimum drink and so many laughs. Usually when you attend something like this you hope to catch a couple of laughs but here we got a load. We laughed about it after and the next day. The room is a bit small but it wasn't packed. They serve some food like basics wings and fries stuff like that. I would definitely come back here. read more

LOVE this place! Came here with a group on Sat. night for our friends going away party. Our "soon to be a resident of Atlanta" friend had never been to Freddy's and on my suggestion we came here. They let us bring in a stack of pizzas and set up a little station in back on a couple tables. My buddy who is leaving and the two others in our party who hadn't been to Freddy's yet, must have spent 20 minutes or so just walking around the place looking at all the stuff on the walls and ceilings. This place has a million things to look at and wonder about. There was a music festival called Beefstock going on in their performance space in back with like 10 bands playing all night. There was no cover, so every half hour or so, my friends and I would wander back there and check out a few tunes. Some of the stuff was really good! The bartenders in the bar room were really cool and one of them bought my friend a shot for having to leave this great city of ours. He had one with us too. They played really good music all night and let our musician friend play the piano they have in the bar. A few more drinks each then "LET THE DANCING COMMENCE"!!! Bartenders entertained our need to dance by putting on Rick James, Prince, Daft Punk, old funk jams, and a glorious block of Michael Jackson!!! I believe a young lady, who we did not know, was also dancing on the bar. We stayed way later than we thought we would. Dear Freddy's, Thank you for making my friend's last night in the city one he'll not soon forget. Thank you for the bartenders who are helpful and friendly and without the hipster attitude. Don't go to Park Slope that often but when I do, this is my "go to" place. Low priced draft beers with about ten of them always ready to be served. IPA's, Guinness and lagers. Free franks-1 per beer, nice atmosphere, divey but nice and clean, and great collection of foods as they have a separate grill. Dark lighting makes it a intimate setting. You must bring friends as you may not get anyone to converse. Bartenders do play favorites here although they will serve beer, wine and shots but not always conversations. Lots of seats and booths. Call ahead about when they have live music but they have a good collection of canned music. Weird videos playing on their tv, with parts of campy horror movies, screaming women and guys dressed up in rubber monster suits with Godzilla playing a bit part. Kind of hypnotic though so don't drink too much or you will be stomping on Japan too and like Godzilla, no one will be taking you home. read more
