I have started shopping at this Fred's location more regularly now, and not just when I am heading back into town after visiting Potter Marsh, for example. Even though I live in Anchorage's awesome eastside, I take the drive to this store since the Fred's on Muldoon has become increasingly disappointing these past several months. This store on Abbott Road (found easily via Elmore Drive) is well organized, bright and decently stocked. I especially appreciate the fine job done in the produce department and in women's apparel. And get this- I about fell over when an employee came up to me at the self scanners as I was ringing up my good stuff, and asked me if I had found everything alright. I actually stopped for a moment, rather stunned, because there ain't no way anyone would hear such a thing at the Muldoon store. So, I told him- yes! I found everything I was looking for, then added in my two cents sharing what a nice store this is, especially compared to the Muldoon store. Seeing the smile on his face helped to make my visit all the more worthwhile.

This is a solid grocery store, as a tourist from out of state it was a nice reliable place to visit where the locals shop and pay non-tourist prices for basic items, including some souvenirs too. This is a super market, I think part of the same ownership of Ralphs (here in So Cal), so the pricing is fair and competitive to their peers with good deals when you know what to look for.

I come here a few times a month because I need to get from A to B in a vehicular transport. Place usually has water and a sponge thing to wash windows, room in the trash bins(a plus), and enough room to get in and out when it's busy. There is a retail section to buy oil, window washing fluid, smelly trees, etc... Sometimes there will be firewood during the summer. Recently, I refilled my little propane tank for the grill and had to get it from the person manning the little island check-out kiosk. It was really busy at the time, so it was a bit of a wait, which is unfortunate for the person since they had to leave to fill it up and other people waiting weren't as patient as they could have been.

Been out of Brown Cow for over a MONTH, other than this chocolate flavor. Whoever does the organic dairy really needs to get on it.

The jewelry manager is one of the best business people I've ever had the opportunity to work with. Thanks again!

Less expensive than most of the stations around town and if you're a regular FM shopper you can get occasional great discounts

I was truly grateful. This took place around lunchtime on April 26th. I look forward to shopping at this store again in the future.

That's the price if you don't have the loyalty card and, thus, don't get the discount. The sticker then went on to show the "price with card," i.e., the discounted price, i.e. the 20% off price. And that unit price showed as $20.69/lb. That's a discount, yes, but it's not a 20% discount. To simplify, let's say the un-discounted unit price was $25/lb (a penny more than the actual un-discounted price). What's 20% of $25? Five dollars. So the discounted price with loyalty card should have been $20/lb. Another sign at the kiosk advertised 20% off Murray's Aged Manchego. Same problem: Fred's system didn't calculate the 20% correctly. The un-discounted unit price was $26.99/lb., but the same sticker showed the price with card to be $23.59/lb. Twenty percent off $26.99 is $21.59, not $23.59. So, I was being charged $2 more per pound than the advertised price on the sign right there at the kiosk. The nice young woman at the cheese kiosk seemed to understand what I explained to her in person, but she said she couldn't change the pricing; all the cheese sales staff does is weigh the portions and their system spits out a label. So I spoke in person to the man at the customer service counter, who also told me he couldn't change the pricing system and he didn't think anyone else in the store could, either. He noted that the PLU number on the sign didn't match the PLU on the sticker affixed to the hunk of cheese. I phoned and spoke with a grocery manager who did not listen, tried to say I misunderstood, then hung up on me. Then I phoned the 800 number and, once I got past the automated answering system and spoke to a person, she listened, seemed to understand, and said she'd pursue it. Bottom line for you, other Freddie's patrons, is: Check the math on the advertised discount. Make sure that the discount shown on the label agrees with the advertised discount.

Dudes. This is not a sale price. I can go to Franz and get 3 loaves for this price. What the actual F?

Both of these required me more documentation than to get a drivers license, contain a photo and DOB and are approved by the State of Alaska for buying alcohol, not to mention multiple deployments and my family being separated etc. Not at Carrs, although they did say they would accept active duty identification for buying alcohol, but no active duty spouse, Veteran, or Veteran spouse. This is really insane because my husband served 30 years in the military and ID cards are made the exact same way in the exact same place and I've never had a problem anywhere else in town. Now that my husband is a Vet, I just wanted to make others aware, this entity does not support the veteran ID cards and Certificate of Indian Blood, very discriminatory when the law says otherwise. I was told, "We can't sell you alcohol with a Tribal ID." BTW, CIB and Tribal ID and not the same thing. After I waited for some time, spoke to Manager and got the same response at Carrs, I went to Winehouse and was immediately told that I get a service discount with my veteran spouse ID for the same bottle. I'd recommend going to "Winehouse" less than a block away. No hassle. Thank you, Winehouse!
