We highly recommend Fred Astaire Studios in Oceanside! We signed up for wedding dance lessons. The scheduler at the office, Tina, was responsive, nice, and informative. The choreographer, Kage, was wonderful. From the get-go, he discussed details and topics we hadn't even considered when planning out our wedding dance. We had no experience with dancing, but Kage worked with us to feel comfortable and confident with the moves for our song. The studio was clean and in a convenient location. We signed up for the 3-lesson package which allowed us to break the dance into parts where we could focus on fine tuning the steps. Awesome environment to learn! With our wedding six months away I asked my fiance if she would take dance lessons with me, I really wanted to be able to dance for our first dance not just waddle back and forth. We originally booked through groupon to give this place a try and were met with top notch coaching and a welcoming fun environment. After only a couple of months of taking lessons here from Kylie, my fiance and I are already much more confident in our abilities to dance together and often do so at home to practice and have some fun. Speaking for a majority of guys in the world dancing may not come as natural to us and when that is the case it can be extremely intimidating to expose yourself to trying to learn it and face those fears in front of other people but the studio here in Oceanside is like a safe zone for beginners. The amount of beginners group classes offered throughout the month are extensive, but at the same time truly catered to those with little knowledge. I felt very out of my element showing up to the first group class even after having a few private lessons just because I thought I would now be left hung out to dry in front of the other participants, but it was quite the opposite experience, the instructors easily break down the dances into bite size chunks that build on each other and get even a guy like me confident and moving. The value you get from taking even one private lessons here is really remarkable because you are offered the ability to go to any of the group classes they host daily and all the fun events and dance parties they have throughout the year. At the end of the day a studio can provide great instruction at a competitive value, but without a good environment the good can be lost, this is where the studio truly excels. Kage and the other instructors have cultivated a fun judgement free place where as soon as you walk in the doors you are greeted like you've been dancing there for years. I can't say enough good things about this studio. My husband and I wanted to take some dance lessons and maybe do a choreographed dance for our wedding. The atmosphere at the studio is fantastic. The incredible owner, Kage Hart, calls the people at the studio family, and he cultivates such a warm, friendly and fun atmosphere that it's impossible not to have a good time. Let me tell you about our wedding dance. We worked with the amazing teacher Kyla, and she worked with our song to choreograph a fun and thoughtful routine that looked amazing! Everyone at the wedding said it was the highlight of the night, and I can tell you that this dance is my most treasured memory of our wedding. And that was all because of the people at the studio. When I realized that my dress was too long to manage some of the moves, they recommended that I come in for a dress rehearsal (minus the husband!) and we figured out how to hold the dress so I could do the dance. This was even outside of lesson time, just extra help that they wanted to provide so I could have the best possible time dancing at my wedding. From one of the group classes that we attended, we fell in love with Argentine Tango and ended up doing a second surprise wedding dance! We worked with both Kyla and Joseph on this one and it was another fantastic moment in the wedding. Yes, dance lessons are expensive and it can be frustrating when you first start (and even long after you start!), but the combination of exercise, social connection, concentration and joy of movement really cannot be matched by many other activities. Long story short, it's been 2 years since our first lesson, and we're still coming to the studio multiple times a week for classes or lessons. We even moved down to San Diego and make the commute up there just because the atmosphere at this studio is so special. I never thought I would fall in love with ballroom dancing, and especially that my husband would as well, but now it's a special part of our marriage and a hobby that we will enjoy together for the rest of our lives. My boyfriend has never taken a dance class and he enjoyed himself and already has some moves, lol. I can't wait to take more classes. Great atmosphere with super nice helpful instructors.
