I hired David to teach salsa at a private event at my home. He did a great job explaining what the evening would entail, and promptly sent out an invoice to reserve the date. I called and texted a few times with additional questions, and he always responded in a timely manner. The night of the event, he showed up on time and ready to teach. Some of the guests were shy, some reticent to dance, but he made it a very relaxed and fun evening for us all. It impressed me that he went slowly and made sure we got all the basic steps down before moving on to the next step. And then he took the time to move from one couple to another and advise on our movements. Several couples in the group approached him after to continue salsa dancing lessons. Last week I would have given 5 stars because I was enjoying my salsa classes a lot. I always liked Dave and Dani. Until last night..during a turn, I fell hard and sprained my foot to the point where I could barely walk. I was left to walk to my chair alone, to my car alone no ice pack provided or aid of any kind. A place where people have the potential to get injured needs to have provisions for that. I've been going to Dance North County for a few months now, and really this place is terrific to pick up west coast swing dancing. It's not a huge studio, but has enough room for 10-15 couples in a class, and is easy to get to off of I-5. The lead instructor Dave and his co-instructor Dani are friendly and are very good teachers when it comes to just starting out with west coast swing, as well as once you move up to more intermediate moves. They cover the fundamentals at a comfortable pace, but they also key in on the more subtle moves for leads and follows to make with their partners. You aren't required to show up with a partner since partners are rotated during class, which also leads to helping one another out on newly-learned moves. The atmosphere is casual and fun, with attendees of all ages, and a great way to meet fellow North County residents. The weekly classes are affordable and conveniently scheduled in the evenings. It's also a deceptively great form of exercise :) Overall, I've been having a great time due to the instructors and the fun vibe. Definitely recommend checking it out. read more

I moved from Utah to So Cal and was looking for an Argentina Tango dance studio as I had been dancing for about 4 years in Utah. Argentina Tango is a wonderful dance and when taught correctly anyone can do it no matter who their partner is. The classes(beginning and advance) at north county dance are taught in away that will not allow the students to experience a Milonga, other partners or other dance parties out side of the students in these particular classes and have fun at the same time. The students are taught a series of steps rather than how to actually lead/follow which is the HEART of Argentina Tango. It was a very sad experience to watch and participate in, regretfully I did it for about a month. If you are looking to get into tango and want to see what it could be this would be the place. But if you would like to actually learn to dance the Tango - Go somewhere else - there are plenty of places out there. read more

This is a smallish dance studio, compared to, say, Champion Ballroom, but it seems to have it's heart in the right place. The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly, and there is a good selection of classes. I did not get the feeling that students are pressured in signing up for private lesson packages, like some studios are known to. This studio features three dance rooms, each with enough sound insulation to allow for three simultaneous soundtracks. There are numerous dance parties each week, organized both by studios and off site groups. The overall atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. read more

I began taking Salsa Dance lessons just a bit over a month ago and I must say, I'm VERY impressed at how much I've learned already! I took a month of beginner lessons and am taking the class over again to perfect my steps and at the same time taking the intermediate to continue learning. The classes I'm taking are through Dave, the owner and may I just say, he is a FANTASTIC instructor! I have also taken a private lesson with him which makes a world of a difference......I plan to purchase a bundle of lessons to really refine my skills and move forward quickly into the Salsa Dance World. I've taken lessons at another facility but the experience at Dance North County has superceded in many ways. The material, the professionalism and of course, the fun. The instructor has been dancing his entire life and it shows! He's passionate about making sure everyone learns the proper and correct way so you can take your lessons out onto the dance floor with confidence. From just one private lesson so far, I can see this is going to make all the difference in my learning. Classes teach one to dance but private lessons perfect every single step and body positioning. I absolutely love this dance studio because it is founded simply for the love of dance. It's such a cute down to earth studio with 4 dance rooms to choose from. It's definitely older and outdated but it has a lot of charm. It's right off Encinitas Blvd off the 5 freeway and is very convenient to get to. I take belly dancing there on Mondays and Wednesdays and love it! They have a wide variety of dance classes to choose from and they are all taught by passionate fun instructors. The greatest part is that's it really affordable to take a class or rent a room there which I love. read more

I've taken Dave's class before and I wanted a refresher, so I took the beginner class again. The first class went very well, but during the second class several of the single guys who take the intermediate class immediately after the beginner session showed up early and jumped into the beginner class, mostly to dance with several attractive ladies who were taking it. I was essentially pushed out of my own class by these guys (they took all the partners) and Dave let them get away with it. I don't think Dave realized what was happening. I think he is a good teacher; however, I feel it is his responsibility to maintain control of the class, and I really don't think he did a very good job that night. We beginners (women AND men) pay good money to take the class and we shouldn't have to compete with interlopers from another class for partners! read more

My boyfriend and I just started dance lessons at this place. Our instructor is Daniel and he is super friendly and patient. We've done some West Coast Swing and now we are trying some Latin. They have classes most evenings, which is really convenient for us 9-5 folks. The cost is affordable, $11 per class if you are willing to pay for 10 classes up front. I started the group salsa lessons in April and have gone almost every week since and have learned a ton. I am able to go out dancing with confidence and have fun because I know what I'm doing. I just started tango and I am really enjoying the classes. The instructor was detailed with each person considering there were 12 people in the class. The people in the classes are fun too! I went to a set of 3 intermediate salsa dance classes. The people taking the classes were nice, as was the instructor, however I was hoping for something a little more advanced. Also, I felt the instructor could have been firmer at controlling the class - making sure people hear him and understand when they are supposed to rotate to the next partner, etc. I had a lot of time standing around waiting for the people ahead of me to rotate. read more

I have lived in Carlsbad for 2 years now. I found Dance North County through a website search for salsa class after 3 months of being in the area. My husband was not interested in dancing so I was a little nervous about joining a dance class by myself but was tired of waiting around for him.. I instantly liked David, owner of dance north county and enjoyed taking the beginner salsa class and am currently at the intermediate level. The class is made of couples and singles who are there for the sole purpose of learning how to salsa. The class has great energy and a good workout at the same time. I enjoyed the class so much I signed up for the argentine tango class. I have progressed to the intermediate tango class and love it!! This class also consists of people who are interested and enjoy tango. It is a difficult dance but an exhilarating dance at the same time. David is very passionate and knowledgeable about teaching the fundamental of the dance and a wonderful instructor. I have also been taking private lessons with David for about 6 months. This lessons give me the opportunity to learn the dance technique in a more advanced way through individual attention to posture, balance and alignment.
