For and Italian restaurant, I expected more flavor. My wife and I found our Valentine's Day dinner to be bland and yuck yuck.

Had lunch here for the first time in over 8 years. Didn't remember whether or not I liked it back then, but thought we'd give it a shot. Glad we did. Clam chowder on Friday was delicious! Food is awesome. Service is awesome. Only complaints are the price (and I can't believe I'm saying this but) it was too cold! There are a few "hidden charges" and for two of us the bill was almost eighty bucks. That's not terrible, but it just seemed like they charged for everything (replacements, veggies instead of pasta, Caesar salad, etc) I will still likely go back here because overall I really like the restaurant! read more

I have been going to this place for years just for the bar and pizza. We tried it today for lunch, and it was really good. Had the Basilico and caesar salad. The salad was good, crip and nice. I've been here for dinner twice in the past couple months and both times I've really enjoyed the experience. My boyfriend and I really like the calamari appetizer, and the Caesar and Garden salads are both really good. I tried something different each time I've been and unfortunately I haven't been blown away by either one, however my boyfriend has gotten the Chicken Parmesan and thinks it's the best he's found so far in town. Stopped in last night after driving our son back to Chico after a weekend home. The staff was friendly and welcoming. we decided on the family dinner, WOW what a lot of food. They start you off with warm toasty bread with dipping oils, salad or soup for 4, Spaghetti & a Large Pizza! Every item was more delicious than the last. Our waitress was so sweet and made us feel as if we were her only customer. On Friday, the special of the day at Franky's was eggplant parmesan. Chef Carlos, who I got a chance to meet, is a magician. I had the dish with marinara sauce. While I used a knife to cut it, that was mainly to control the melting cheese. The eggplant was crazy tender and delicious to the last bite. I'm a big fan of eggplant. We have cooked it at home and I've eaten it at a number of restaurants throughout California and Nevada. This was, the best. I was only visiting Chico so can't vouch for other Franky's dishes. But with Chef Carlos' touch, I presume they will all be delicious. It's always nice when traveling to find a local spot. Put Franky's on your list. read more

We had been wanting to try Frankys since they started the radio ads rebranding themselves as fine Italian food. When we got there, service was great. Our waitstaff was attentive and fast. I ordered the Chicken Marsala, a favorite dish of mine. However, what came out of the kitchen was some weird tomato chicken stir fry that was nothing like chicken Marsala. I have made it better. Just a 2 second google searched recipe would be 10x better than what was on my plate. Chicken Marsala is a cream sauce, not a red sauce. It did not smell or even look appetizing. The chicken tasted raw, or old, not prepared right. I ended up discreetly spitting it out. Definitely not worth $20, I wish I had stayed home and cooked. We can only afford to do a date night once a month and this just ruined it for me. When I brought the leftovers home, we even asked a roommate to guess where we had gone, or what I had ordered based on what I brought home. He thought we had gone to Chinese food. Thankfully my partner's dish was easy enough for them not to screw up, fettuccini Alfredo. Franky's should stick to pizzas, this was not Italian cuisine. Favorite bar and a place we were more than regulars at while we did our time in Chico. All the bartenders are awesome. All the employee's who have been there awhile are all aces in anyone who knows them's book. It sometimes loses its head a bit in that its just a bar in a grimey college downtown. We love eating at frankys! The food is fresh and affordable! Their gluten free options are minimal -but, I promise- you don't have to worry about cross contamination- their frozen mousse ice cream is delicious! Ordered the calamari extra crisp, which can be done without over cooking. High heat less time. But it was most likely cooked at the same heat but longer. We also asked for tarter sauce instead of cocktail and they didn't have any. That was surprising since they have a lot of seafood on their menu. The clam chowder flavor was good, but the potatoes in it were undercooked. I've had better. read more

This place has great pizza when you're hammered and it's 2am, however the dinner food is just alright. The prices are pretty reasonable though and you can get out of there with a good dinner for two with a round of drinks and tip for under $60 (less if you're a lousy tipper) plus the atmosphere is great! read more

If I could say two words about this place, it'd have to be...STRONG ISLAND. There is nothing better than late night at Franky's. The bar tenders are super fast and the drinks are well worth what you pay for them. Also, I see the staff around Chico daily and they always have time to say hi to me and my friends. The food is likewise as amazing. If you want some authentic italian, or maybe just a slice of pizza that you probably won't remember eating at 2AM from the front window...this place has you covered. This is definitely a community based bar. They support the local university and Chico economy and we, as students, give them our support back. I mean, realistically about 75% of us spent our 21st birthdays at this bar so it's the least we can do for putting them though all of our shenanigans! read more
