Very terrible and slow service. Waited over an hour for 1 slice while people behind me ordered a whole damn box. I asked the Steph curry lookin guy where my slice was and he said "my bad I gave it to those other people don't worry a free slice on me just give me 2mins" I agreed waited 10mins asked again for my slice and the free one he had promised and he told me " I never said you can have a free slice" I decided to leave completely wasted my time and money, thank you. I am extremely disappointed with Franky's. We were in Chico last night enjoying my brother graduating from college and we decided to get some pizza everybody raved about Franky's pizza. I called Franky's around 845 asking if we could order two large pizzas, the first girl said yes of course give me 1 second, a second girl then came on the phone and said "actually our kitchen is closed you are going to have to order pizza outside at our to go by the slice"... It said online that the place closes at 2am which could be just the outside pizza by the slice is closed by 2am. Also if your kitchen actually closes at 9 I called at 845 trying to get service, and you were unwilling to help out. Walked up and was immediately judged as a "college drunk" purely because I was having a good time with my girls. I understand the concern for limiting underage drinking (I'm 26 and writing this on the spot) and am a huge supporter of being safe about alcohol limits, but please don't exclude people so dramatically based on your biased opinion. Love franky's! Not only do I utilize the pizza window, but I often stop in for a meal (which are always delicious). The waiters are very friendly and the food comes out promptly after ordering! Definitely my favorite bar to come to, as well. read more

If you don't care about having crappy service - then I suggest trying out Franky's because the food is pretty darn good! However, always been super unimpressed with the service - especially when you need a meal to go. Tonight we ordered pizza at 5:20 and were told 15-20 minutes. No problem. We arrived at 5:45 and checked out with the bartender. She charged us then didn't say a word - didn't ask anyone to check on the pizza or anything. We proceeded to hang out by the bar for 30 minutes and not one person asked us if they could help. Bar tender completed ignored us and wouldn't even come near us again! We even saw the owner walk by on several occasions and he also refused to make eye contact with us. I wish the 30 minute wait was an exaggeration! Finally we caught the attention of a different bartender and asked him to please get an update on our pizza. He sent someone back to check on it, and the employee came back 5 minutes later with a cold pizza. "Sorry for that little wait...." he says as he hands us the soggy box. I didn't know that a 55 minute wait was "little"! Super bummed with the service here and even more bummed that the owner didn't have enough sense to know that customers were clearly upset. read more

Franky's is consistently good Italian food. We come here a lot, so I definitely have to recommend them. It is located right in the middle of the college area, literally surrounded by homes and apartments that are occupied by 95% students. The restaurant and bar are fairly loud most of the time, but more in a lively way than an obnoxious way. I give them 4 stars because while their food is consistently good, it is not so exceptional that I give them 5 stars. Keep in mind, I do keep coming back! This is the only place I'd go for Italian food in Chico. I went with a friend on a Thursday night, and we ordered the special for the night, which was lobster ravioli, and we also ordered a vegetarian pizza. Before they brought out entrees, we split a side salad, and they brought out bread with olive oil/balsamic vinegar (which I probably would've kept eating if we didn't run out of bread right before our meal came). This is a heavy statement, but the lobster ravioli was the best I've ever had. The lobster wasn't overpowering or too subtle, and the cream sauce complemented the raviolis without being too thick or heavy. The pizza was also delicious - I would've eaten another slice or two or five if I could have. They have plenty of options for topping, and were extremely accommodating to me wanting to remove some items on half (most places mess that up completely). The service was outstanding here - our waitress was extremely attentive and helpful when we were overwhelmed with what to order. She was professional but still very personable, which I always like in waitresses. The atmosphere was relaxed but fun, they have a bunch of flat screens on the walls, and a train going around the top of the wall. They also have a full bar, in case you're into that kind of thing; being in Chico, and all. Overall, this was an outstanding dining experience and I can't wait to go back to try more of their authentic Italian menu. read more

I'm in Chico for a day on business. I didn't have many expectations for food in this small city of Chico, but I was very pleasantly surprised by Franky's. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan (which comes with the side of spaghetti). The amount of food they give you is impressive; the chicken itself was a nice size, and it was very moist inside. It came with a side salad and bread. Everything was very tasty. If I'm ever back in Chico, I'm coming back to Franky's. read more

Came here yesterday for my graduation luncheon on a professor's recommendation for a family-friendly resto. I had folks drive up from San Francisco, Hayward and Sac so you know folks appreciated we had a place reserved with no wait. Had to drop a $100 deposit down for a resevation of 10 a few weeks prior which was a lil different but whatevs. I was told deposit would go toward our bill. One guest backed out last minute so we ended up being a party of 9. First impressions: Friendly hostess as me and my sister arrived 15 minutes before reservation time and we're promptly seated. The bartender acknowledged my bff and I while she was making a bunch of drinks for another table and our server named Danielle was sweet and nice. As folks trickled in Danielle immediately asked folks what they wanted to drink. (Strike 1) My daughter asked for an iced tea but got a Dr. Pepper and waited a bit for her replacement as Danielle served other tables. It wasn't that crackin so there was no need to wait that long. We all decided on starters of calimari, mozzerella sticks, scooter prawns and bruchetta. All very delicious! My sister ordered the meat lasagne which she loved. My daughter ordered fettuccine alfredo which she loved and a small cheese pizza which (Strike 2) she never received during our sit down and we attempted to cancel as we were leaving. I'm grateful that Danielle offered to box one up and not charge us for it. My son ordered a small pepperoni which he devoured. (Strike 3) My brother ordered a calzone with 3 specific meat items that was not obviously not olives but got olives in his calzone. He hates olives lol! I ordered 3 linguine and clams for myself, my mom and my niece and what a huge disappointment! (Strike 4) They used CANNED CLAMS when we expected fresh clams on the shell (being the SF natives we are). I just looked at my bowl like WTF is this and the look on my mom's and niece's face said the same. For almost $20 you would think they would use fresh clams and real linguine, not chow meiny noodles in hella butter. It was dense af but I was hongry so took in a few bites. I had 3/4 left and told them to take it. And I never not take leftovers! One BFF ordered the chicken picatta which she said was just okay and the other BFF ordered a calamari app and bay shrimp linguine which she said was excellent. (Strike 5) The calamari app never showed up so we canceled it as we were ready to hit the road and drive our long ways home. I could tell Danielle was starting to get frazzled, maybe even annoyed as her smiles started to become less and less and she'd kind of stomp away with her ponytail swinging hard from side to side. I'd be mad at myself for leaving my customers with subpar service, too but I wouldn't let my customers see it. She took the blame for each slip up which I appreciated the accountability. I did customer service for years so I know what its like to mess up especially if you think you do your best but you can tell your customers are wanting more. Maybe it was the kitchen? Miscommunication? She mentioned the head chef was in the house but if that was the head chef, damn. Was this the best they could do? (Strike 6) Her service at the end of it all was okay until we were all at the lot saying our goodbyes and she literally runs out and accuses one of the bffs for taking the signed receipt. I watched the bff put the signed copy in the credit card holder as we were arguing about who was paying the bill. We still left an 18% tip regardless of the mess ups. We were all posted in the lot for a lengthy time. There was no need to yell out and cause a scene like we were about to drive off without signing the receipt. We were still standing and talking outside our cars! After bff proves she doesn't have the signed copy Danielle goes inside to ask whomever about the receipt comes back outside stating her colleague may have tossed the receipt so she stands with reprinted copies for the bff to sign which left a real bad taste in the bff's mouth for 1) the run up and accusation and 2) having to dig in her purse especially after we repeatedly told her it was in the holder. We will never go back based on this experience nor recommend. EVER. read more

Honestly, I love the pizza at the walk-up window here after a long night on the town. It is on the way home and one of the only things open. The only bummer is that on late Fri/early Sat. nights, the line gets so long that unless you get there early enough, you won't get a slice. A classic Chico late-night stop. read more

Went here last Wednesday night with my wife and daughter (who was moving into the dorms the next day). We ordered Caesar side salads and a large pizza with tomatoes, pepperoni, and black olives. The crust was very good and the sauce not overpowering. The tomatoes were nice big chunks. Overall a very good pizza. So, I really wanted to give Franky's a better review, but couldn't. We went on a Wednesday evening for dinner and I should have guessed something was wrong when I walked in and the only person who noticed me was the bartender. After about 10 minutes I finally got water and asked if I was waiting for someone else. My party arrived right after the water and the place was still empty. We ordered and the food came, the cheese wasn't even melted! If this was my first time here I would not go back, but I grew up in Chico and going to Franky's so I know it can be so much better. We dined at Franky's one evening with most of the family - about 17 people. Getting a reservation for that many folks can be challenging, and of course in a college town where most reviews cite this place as a good place for after-bar-hours pizza, I was a bit suspect before we arrived. I was wrong, plain and simple as that! The restaurant looked nice, just as soon as we walked in. The bar even looked impressive, and some of our family was already there, having a drink. Our table was ready, and it was in the middle of the room as opposed to be shoved off by the kitchen. So far, so good. We were seated right away, and our server came over promptly and started with drinks. A few of us had questions about the menu, and she was quick and efficient, although knowledgeable about the menu. Turns out that there was even a special on the pizza that night - buy one small topping pizza, get another one free. It took a while for everyone to order and get settled, however with a crowd this large (and a few different checks, which they were happy to do), that's understandable. I don't seem to recall that it took too long to get the food, and everyone did get their food at pretty much the same time. If anyone's food came out incorrectly, I didn't notice. I ordered a pizza, and dug right in. It was very good - better than what I had been expecting really. And I ate the whole thing... The separate bills were a bit challenging, and I expected that, however with just a little time, she got everything straightened out and off we went a few hours later. As far as I know, everyone ate well and I heard no complaints at all. I have absolutely no reservations about recommending Franky's as a place to stop while you are in Chico, and looking for some good Italian food. They did a fine job for our really large crew, and I'm sure any of us would be willing to go back again! read more

We gave it a try for the first time. It wasn't anything to write home about because I felt everything we ordered was just marginal. We both had Italian plates of ravioli. I had the cheese-filled with meat sauce and my partner had the meat-filled ravioli ones with the plain red sauce. The cheese-filled one was much better than the meat-filled Italian ravioli. I would order those for sure again. The bar is outdated because it has that old wet moldy smell to it after years of water dripping down to floors. It's time they take the whole bar out and rebuild it. You can order any kind of liquor you wanted it was that well-stocked. The house wine was very marginal. I didn't see a list of wines they offered. The menu is pretty much the same thing you see at most Italian restaurants. There was nothing on the menu that truly moved me to order than Ravs. The service was fine. I would try it one more time. The price of $19.00 for a plate of portions of ravioli was pricy I thought for this area. I am used to great places to eat in the Bay Area so I am spoiled. I compare what I used to eat to the places in Chico and so far it's been really a challenge to find a place that really rocks my socks off. My experience at Franky's bar was exceptional. Our bartender Rudy exemplified superior customer service. He was extremely helpfully with everything we needed! He was very knowledgeable of the menu and his drink special, "the rudester" was one of the most refreshing and satisfying drinks I've ever had at Frankie's thus far...highly recommend this drink. Well, there are really two Frankies in one restaurant: There is the slightly upscale Italian restaurant inside, and there is also a walk up window serving slices at lunch and at late night. There is a bell to ring for service during other times, too. The window service is cheap, quick and good! The slices are generous, the crust chewy and crispy and the sauce is sweeter than usual pizza. Some might not like that, but I think it's delish. If you are going to their walk up window at night, be prepared for hordes of college students, undoubtedly seeking a cure for the drunk munchies. Fifth and Ivy isn't exactly a low key place to be on a weekend night, but if you are at Franky's, you're probably part of the crowd. The real restaurant inside is a great date restaurant. They have a full bar, and a menu full of specialty drinks. I have been happy with every drink I've had there. The food is Italian-American and has the standard fare. It is worth the price, though not mind-blowing food. There are lots of yummy appetizers, as well. Everything is good, the atmosphere is comfortable and I have a good time when I am there. read more

A bunch of us went to Franky's the other day for lunch and somewhat enjoyed it. My wife and I had the pastrami and it was very dissapointing; it was drenched in some cheese sauce which hid the pastrami and killed its taste. Two others in our group (12 of us) were also dissapointed with their lunches. The other eight said it was good. Frankie's has always been a good time and good eatin in the restaurant, I do not recommend the take out option. I have NEVER so disappointed in a meal that I opened up back at home. The portions were tiny. Both salad and entree. The quality of my entree was obviously not expectable when I opened the container. And I called immediately. Terrible service. The food I got did not match the order, the staff was rude, and they don't care about costumers.

I had called in an order off there website, the price on their online menu was 6$ different than what they charged me. After thinking that over I went with it, I bet the Macon cheese will be worth it. I get there and tell them my name on my order and wait, then I go to pay at the bar and what I am supposed to get back is like 4$ and like 89 cents back. What I actually get back is 4$ and the bartender briskly walks away before I can say anything. Now I would've probably left the changed and a dollar as a tip, but you don't even offer the chance? Not cool. So basically they falsely advertised online, I went with it, but you don't even offer my change? Not cool, and the Mac n cheese wasn't good, it was powdery and cold and such a small portion for 16$! I will not be returning. This was just a horrible experience all around for an overpriced dissatisfying product and a rude staff. No thanks. read more

Franky's is my favorite bar to come to in Chico. The decor is dark and swanky, very reminiscent of another era. The drink list always has more fun drinks than I can possibly try. They really put effort and invention into creating their drinks. Its a great place to hang out with friends and linger over a good conversation and yummy drinks. read more
