    The ceiling is soo cool!

Stopped in for a quick glass of wine! First time here, Maria was so sweet and amazing! Great server, super surprised there aren't more people here in a Friday during happy hour! Will come back another time!

I had a dinner with a girlfriend at Grana back in late October. It was my first time there, but my friend is a regular & wine club member. We arrived for our 6pm patio reservation right on time to find out they had just given our table away. After unraveling what had been done on their end, they scrambled to find us space. It wasn't an ideal first impression. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We caught the patio on a perfect Chico evening - not too hot, not yet cold - and it was a really aesthetically pleasant space. Dog friendly, too![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since my friend is a wine club member, we started with a tasting. Hers ended up being complimentary, while mine was not. I don't know of another wine club that doesn't include tastings for the member + 1-3 guests. It was odd, at minimum. Our server was attentive and kind, and overall the food was good. The wedge salad was crunchy & fresh, and composed in a thoughtful & artistic way. The sausage & pepper pizza was also good, just enough to split with my friend. I'm not sure it earned a $27 price tag, though (size, ingredients, flavor, etc). Bodega Slice Shop is putting out better pies at a fraction of the price. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All in all, the Grana patio was pretty ideal in terms of ambiance for a girls night with an old friend.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The wine & food was good, but pricey for the value, so it'll probably take another invite from her to bring me back.

I was in the Chico area and decided to try Grana after it's showing on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server, Annika, was tremendous and even laughed at my stupid sense of humor. 5 stars on service We tried their Braised Pork Ragu that was featured on the show (5 stars) and a Margherita pizza (3 stars). The Braised Pork Ragu was full of flavor and super tender. The house made pasta was delicious although a little too Al dente. Still a wonderful dish over all. The Margherita pizza was just average. It need a little more cheese and a firmer bottom crust. Maybe a another minute in the wood fired oven would have helped. My biggest issue with Grana is the cost. I know food costs are continuously rising, but value is important these days as well. While delicious, the Pork Ragu was not a $26 dish. The portion size was great for 1 person, however, that's a little pricey for a lunch item. The Margherita pizza, priced at $22 should have been closer to $15. It was more of a personal pizza than a dish that was meant to share. Over all, this is a wonderful restaurant with great food. A little more reasonable pricing lifts this to a 5 star rating.

Had to come back and update since it had been so long ago that I reviewed. Grana has impressed me over the years and there's always something to make me happy. Love the farm to table freshness that Grana prides itself on. Food is always delicious. Service is kind, with great recommendations. Desserts are worth it, so save some room! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the patio on warm spring nights.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Meat, spinach, muffaletta sandwich

Took my mom here for a nice lunch a couple of days ago. Good- addition to the Chico food scene (which is kinda sad tbh). Food: Very nice. Seemed pretty healthy. -Gazpacho - nice, chunky style - they put croutons in it which I thought was odd for gazpacho but it worked. Not a huge portion but enough. -Puttanesca - I failed to read the fine print - I expected spaghetti, and it was zucchini noodles. Also, didn't really taste like a typical puttanesca. It was zucchini noodles with smashed tomatoes, kalamata olives, and bread crumbs. I felt very healthy and righteous eating it even though it wasn't what I wanted. The portion was fine, but a little pricy for what it was. IMO, this would make a better side dish. -Sandwich - I forget what it was called but my mom ordered a sandwich with some kind of meat, muffuletta, spinach. She loved it and she's picky as hell. They don't serve espresso which seems odd for an Italian-focused menu. Just get a Nespresso machine, people! Ambiance - not a ton of seating inside; kind of garage-like and loud. It used to be a garage so there's that. The outside patio was ok. It was about 90 degrees and as it was shady, we were able to sit out there. Will be too hot when it gets over 100 for sure. They had plenty of heaters for when it's chilly. Service - the waiter was good. attentive, friendly. I wish he would have called out that the Puttanesca wasn't actual pasta - I had asked him for a recommendation. The host was friendly and sociable once he deigned to acknowledge us - kind of like a doctor in that regard. We did stand there for a good 7 minutes before being acknowledged while he cleaned tables and sat the people in front of us. Price for value - a little high by Chico standards. One sandwich, one soup, one plate of vegetables, one prosecco, and two iced teas = $80. Overall, the menu choices were very good, service and food felt upscale. I'll come back next time I'm in town and try some of their other items.

Not sure what all was on this pizza!! No meat but just fresh herds and some Lemmon!!

My favorite place to eat when I come down to Chico!! The cauliflower is excellent along with everything else!! This is the best place in Chico!!

They have absolutely NAILED their Pana Cotta. Normally, I wouldn't be a huge fan of pana cottas as it has come across to gelatin-y in the past, but I get it every time. The service is amazing. It is clear they are aiming to offer an elevated experience. That being said, it is on the longer side of a meal, and I find it much more enjoyable when I accept the leisurely pace and order an appetizer. When I do order an appetizer, the meal seems perfectly paced. Without it, it could seem a bit slow. I've loved the zucchini blossoms, calamari, and Caesar salad. (I do really like the burrata ones as well, but it's just so easy to make on your own from Trader Joes at a much lower premium.) I also love that they offer complementary focaccia, which used to be made in house. I don't believe it is now, but it is still very good. My fave dishes to get are anything with their droolworthy polenta like their chicken or veal saltimbocca (I prefer the chicken) for dinner or their chicken marsala for lunch. The chicken marsala probably is my absolute favorite, which means I HAVE to come here for their lunch sometimes, which are only Thursday and Friday. Really lovely atmosphere. I have and love to sit on their porch but no longer do because of the traffic noise. Chico designed Bruce with the traffic light right there and it's so bad - basically a raceway for meatheads in their loud trucks and motorcycles when the light turns green. Mosquitos absolutely become a problem so while I love that they sometimes put up the garage style doors/windows when the weather is nice to create a lovely indoor/outdoor experience, if you're a mosquito magnet like me, that is not the time for you to come in without mosquito protection. (One time was so bad that even though they closed it, I left with - I kid you not, I counted - no less that 18 mosquito bites on my calf.

We were promptly seated, and given a great spot near the wall-sized indoor fountain which was nice. We started with cocktails and appetizers, and they all came out quickly. We started with bread, which was excellent. We moved on to the grilled artichokes, which were also pretty special. The jalapeno aioli added to the smokiness of the grilled artichokes. We loved them. The bib salad was also a treat - nice chop, and the lardons were perfectly cooked little flavor bombs that stood up nicely to the blue cheese. We had the lobseter ravioli, and the single-layer crispy lasagne for our meals. The lobster ravioli was delicious, and the freshly made sundried tomatoes added a little extra structure to balance the plate. The single layer lasagne was really interesting. Wasn't sure what to expect, and the server said it was a little controversial, so I tried it. It came out as a large sheet - fresh spinach pasta sheets, layered with a delicious bolognese sauce, and topped with pesto and bechamel. Unconventional? Yes. Delicious? YES! I'm so glad I was feeling experimental - it was an innovative dish. Overall, we loved it. Service was very solid - attentive, without being intrusive. Perfect evening! Previous review: Dropped in here just to check it out. We came early on Thursday, and it was jumping! Not bad enough to complain but really weren't up to standard based on price and description. We ordered the Special which was a pile of angel hair pasta mixed with pesto in the middle (very dry), and around that it was supposed to have chicken, asparagus, roasted garlic and heirloom tomatoes. I can't remember what else. I only found two small bites of chicken. Not worth $34. The other dish was the Chicken Picatta and the sauce was very thick, not the lighter thin sauce with capers we've become used to and green bell peppers were one of the veggies they added to the pasta. Those are so over powering to the other flavors of artichoke hearts and mushrooms. The balance of ingredients was just off for how much money they now charge. The carpet in particular is somewhat outdated and very dreary. We were seated right away with an evening reservation. Our server was the most delightful, helpful as well as professional person. She definitely made for an enjoyable experience. The menu is nicely broad with some very good and interesting selections. For an appetizer I selected the Alsatian Tarte Flambe. With the description of a "tarte" plus "puffed pastry" I was somewhat surprised when what looked like a flatbread arrived. Although somewhat true to the description I expected something like a cup shaped pastry. It was delicious enough so no complaints over the ingredients and flavor. If anything it tasted a bit top heavy with vinegar, yet still enjoyable. I washed it down with a Schramsberg Prosecco which was a perfect accompaniment. For an entree I choose the Grilled 6oz Petit Tender (medium rare) with asparagus and scalloped potatoes topped by a red wine and berry sauce. It was excellent, flavorful with the meat very tender. I was very pleased. It was an abundant portion so I was quite full after consuming it. My dining companion had the grilled meatloaf with ground filet mignon and pork sausage. It is baked and then grilled. I tried some and it is EPIC. It has to be one of the best meatloaf preparation I ever tasted. Bravo on this dish! We shared a bottle of Tempranillo to accompany it which was perfect. For dessert we shared a nice and refreshing mint chocolate chip ice cream which was generously comped as we were there for a special occasion. Thank you! I would definitely return and try other dishes, although the meatloaf is a must standout. Overall a very good experience.
