    The ceiling is soo cool!

Stopped in for a quick glass of wine! First time here, Maria was so sweet and amazing! Great server, super surprised there aren't more people here in a Friday during happy hour! Will come back another time!

We loved Grana. All our dishes were amazing! Ambiance is nice, inside and outside seating. Service was prompt and nice. Note, they don't allow outside drinks.

I had a dinner with a girlfriend at Grana back in late October. It was my first time there, but my friend is a regular & wine club member. We arrived for our 6pm patio reservation right on time to find out they had just given our table away. After unraveling what had been done on their end, they scrambled to find us space. It wasn't an ideal first impression. We caught the patio on a perfect Chico evening - not too hot, not yet cold - and it was a really aesthetically pleasant space. Dog friendly, too! Since my friend is a wine club member, we started with a tasting. Hers ended up being complimentary, while mine was not. I don't know of another wine club that doesn't include tastings for the member + 1-3 guests. It was odd, at minimum. Our server was attentive and kind, and overall the food was good. The wedge salad was crunchy & fresh, and composed in a thoughtful & artistic way. The sausage & pepper pizza was also good, just enough to split with my friend. I'm not sure it earned a $27 price tag, though (size, ingredients, flavor, etc). Bodega Slice Shop is putting out better pies at a fraction of the price. All in all, the Grana patio was pretty ideal in terms of ambiance for a girls night with an old friend. The wine & food was good, but pricey for the value, so it'll probably take another invite from her to bring me back.

I was in the Chico area and decided to try Grana after it's showing on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. This is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding staff. Our server, Annika, was tremendous and even laughed at my stupid sense of humor. 5 stars on service We tried their Braised Pork Ragu that was featured on the show (5 stars) and a Margherita pizza (3 stars). The Braised Pork Ragu was full of flavor and super tender. The house made pasta was delicious although a little too Al dente. Still a wonderful dish over all. The Margherita pizza was just average. It need a little more cheese and a firmer bottom crust. Maybe a another minute in the wood fired oven would have helped. My biggest issue with Grana is the cost. I know food costs are continuously rising, but value is important these days as well. While delicious, the Pork Ragu was not a $26 dish. The portion size was great for 1 person, however, that's a little pricey for a lunch item. The Margherita pizza, priced at $22 should have been closer to $15. It was more of a personal pizza than a dish that was meant to share. Over all, this is a wonderful restaurant with great food. A little more reasonable pricing lifts this to a 5 star rating.

Had to come back and update since it had been so long ago that I reviewed. Grana has impressed me over the years and there's always something to make me happy. Love the farm to table freshness that Grana prides itself on. Food is always delicious. Service is kind, with great recommendations. Desserts are worth it, so save some room! I love the patio on warm spring nights.

    Meat, spinach, muffaletta sandwich

Took my mom here for a nice lunch a couple of days ago. Good- addition to the Chico food scene (which is kinda sad tbh). Food: Very nice. Seemed pretty healthy. -Gazpacho - nice, chunky style - they put croutons in it which I thought was odd for gazpacho but it worked. Not a huge portion but enough. -Puttanesca - I failed to read the fine print - I expected spaghetti, and it was zucchini noodles. Also, didn't really taste like a typical puttanesca. It was zucchini noodles with smashed tomatoes, kalamata olives, and bread crumbs. I felt very healthy and righteous eating it even though it wasn't what I wanted. The portion was fine, but a little pricy for what it was. IMO, this would make a better side dish. -Sandwich - I forget what it was called but my mom ordered a sandwich with some kind of meat, muffuletta, spinach. She loved it and she's picky as hell. They don't serve espresso which seems odd for an Italian-focused menu. Just get a Nespresso machine, people! Ambiance - not a ton of seating inside; kind of garage-like and loud. It used to be a garage so there's that. The outside patio was ok. It was about 90 degrees and as it was shady, we were able to sit out there. Will be too hot when it gets over 100 for sure. They had plenty of heaters for when it's chilly. Service - the waiter was good. attentive, friendly. I wish he would have called out that the Puttanesca wasn't actual pasta - I had asked him for a recommendation. The host was friendly and sociable once he deigned to acknowledge us - kind of like a doctor in that regard. We did stand there for a good 7 minutes before being acknowledged while he cleaned tables and sat the people in front of us. Price for value - a little high by Chico standards. One sandwich, one soup, one plate of vegetables, one prosecco, and two iced teas = $80. Overall, the menu choices were very good, service and food felt upscale. I'll come back next time I'm in town and try some of their other items.

Not sure what all was on this pizza!! No meat but just fresh herds and some Lemmon!!

Their special: shrimp and polenta cake

I absolutely love this place. I've been wanting to try it and finally had the chance. They were able to squeeze us into the bar for dinner and we had the absolute best time. Excellent service. Crostini appetizer: Absolutely delicious, I do wish the leaves had been more bit size or sliced into ribbons as the bigger leaves move around while trying to eat this. Their special was shrimp and polenta: the shrimp are tail on, which bothers me at any restaurant, the polenta was decent but I wish it had added cheese to be a little more flavorful. The red sauce was fine. They had added green onion to this that was sautéed in the red sauce, but since they were whole and not cut up or used as a garnish, left a little to be desired. Salmon entree: when I tell you this is the best salmon I've ever had. Absolute perfection, on a bed of mash potato paired with a caper sauce and broccolini. The salmon skin was crispy and divine. 10/10 recommend, go get this and please make it for me every day. Special butterscotch pudding desert with lemon shortbread and salted caramel: very tasty! Chocolate dessert thing: this was SO decadent. Perfect for two people, I was so full already it was hard to finish alone. Topped with gorgeous creme fresh and hazelnuts. Drinks: we both had The Grand, make sure to squeeze your lemon into it, it truly brings out the excellence in that drink!!

You step inside and head upstairs, and suddenly the outside world is forgotten. It's its own little realm holding court in the heart of Chico. It is warm, inviting, and has plenty of seating, with a full cast of attentive staff, and decor that doesn't shout "Italian!" from the rooftops, but is very hipster whispering with confidence. We opened with the lamb appetizer, and I'll admit this with measured humility... it rivaled my own. Tender, well-seasoned, and not a trace of that gamey nonsense. The Brussels sprouts followed suit, crisped just right, delivering that perfect bite between char and flavor. The bread and dipping combo? Let's just say restraint was not my strong suit. A few pizzas passed by like temptation itself, and every one of us took notice. Plans were made... our future visit in the works. For the mains, the birthday girl claimed the ribeye, and it arrived exactly as it should... cooked to perfection, with potatoes that could quietly steal the show if you weren't paying attention. Her boyfriend and I, in a moment of questionable maturity, settled our fate with Rochambeau. He emerged victorious and took the crispy chicken breast with gnocchi, a dish generous enough to test even a committed appetite. I went with the short rib ragu, rich and comforting, the kind of plate that doesn't need explaining. The drink selection holds its own, and the dessert menu read like a final act worth staying for... but we were defeated in the best possible way and bowed out early. Service never missed a beat. Present, attentive, and smooth from start to finish. Parking, as with most things in downtown Chico, requires a bit of patience and perhaps a small offering to the parking gods. But once inside, it's quickly forgotten. All told, a night well spent. Good food, good company, and a place that knows exactly what it's doing without needing to announce it. We'll be back... if only to answer the question those passing pizzas left behind.

We made reservations online due to the fact that it was graduation week for Chico State and the process was easy. We were seated immediately, the restaurant is a little bigger than expected because we were seated in the back section of the restaurant. But - definitely small at the same time because in the front of the restaurant is the bar and right next to the bar are the bathrooms; if there are people standing around the bar, there is no room to move around them. (When we were there those standing around the bar were are barely aware of their surroundings and didn't move for you to get through) Our server was vibrant and nice, he made sure to mention the new items for the week and hyped up each dish we chose to order; he even remembered that we were there for a birthday (as I added this comment in the reservation). However there were little mishaps, for example : my husband said no anchovies in his Cesar salad... when the salad was brought: anchovies. Our server took all my utensils when he cleared our table and left me with nothing; he noticed and said: "I will bring you an extra fork for your dinner." - welp , no fork was brought.. We both got pasta: I got the shrimp Alfredo, he got the Alfredo and added meatballs... I raised my hand to try to get our servers attention, but that didn't happen so my husband gave me his fork and he ate his pasta with a spoon. (Don't try it). I think our server was just a little frantic. When we got our food we agreed that the Alfredo sauce was a little watered down with not much flavor. (Had to add salt) but they did give big portions. At the end of the meal, we got brownies on the house for my birthday, which was nice. Overall, will we got back? Probably not. But- we did see a video online stating their calamari was the best thing on their menu, so MAYBE we will go back to try that.? Who knows.
