Aside from being really fun to eat in a train car, and look at the historical and fun displays, the food and service were great. I had a Joe's Special omelet - half portion, so glad!! It was So. Much. Food. Really well made, it contains seasoned beef, sausage, onion, spinach, and Parmesan cheese. Yum! Had some hash browns, very tasty, and since I didn't want bread, the waiter offered to sub a slice of bacon! Happily we ate here in between the breakfast and lunch rushes, because people were waiting around in the tiny lobby and outside in the gazebo, when we left. We sat at the bar which was fun to watch the chefs make breakfast (I would highly recommend this) really our only complaints were the gravy didn't taste like it was homemade it tasted like it was out of a can or a bag and the corn beef could've been better my husband had the corn beef and hash and I had the chicken fried steak. First time ever experience was amazing, granted there was a wait but completely worth it. I have a daughter that's 4 and a son that's 3 who were getting a little antsy and the manager noticed and offered us some waffles while we waited for a family booth. Above and beyond kind of service. I also wanted an ice coffee and even though it was not on the menu they made it happen. After looking on the GF app I found that the take allergies VERY seriously. They also have many options for allergen and other dietary needs like vegan and vegetarian. The portions are HUGE! And the food is fresh. The hash browns are to-die-for and you can get them with gravy (none for me) and or grilled onions (again none for me. I love onions but they do not love me). The train car is beautiful but we only had 5 of our 7 family members and a small booth with our 6'8 & 6'9 guys plus 5'8-5'10.5 youngest girls with myself on a chair in the aisle wasn't ideal. There's a larger table in the back not in the train car but it was occupied. I live that they had some 1/2 orders. We arrived about noon on the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) and were quickly escorted to a table for four (there were two of us, but this appeared to be the only table left). We were seated in the 1913 dining railcar. The menu had the typical diner items, but it has been voted the #1 place in Spokane for breakfast. I'm not a eat-breakfast-away-from-home person, so after quite a debate with myself over the FRESH roast turkey options (open face, dinner, or club sandwich), I ordered the fish and chips since I just had turkey the day prior. I tried squeezing lemon on the cod to start with, but that didn't bring out the flavor of the fish, and after asking for malt vinegar and pouring one-third of the bottle onto the fish (which usually brings out the flavor or kills it), I opted for the tarter sauce, which I usually hate. This tarter sauce, however, had a great pickle flavor and masked the taste of a rather boring piece of cod. The chips were thick, crispy on the outside and potato goodness on the inside. I was stuffed. You might be wondering why 5 stars then if the cod wasn't all that great? The service was so outstanding and every server was so friendly and caring that it made up for a boring piece of cod. Besides, I probably should have listened to my gut and ordered the roast turkey! Definitely a different dining experience. This establishment uses a train car, originally put into service in 1913, for all its diners, so there is not a lot of room for groups. You can choose to sit at the counter if you are lucky and there is a space there. This diner specializes in breakfast but they also do a pretty spectacular burger and their fries are superb. If you come for breakfast on a weekend or holiday day, expect to WAIT. It is quite probable that you will spend 45 minutes to an hour (or more) waiting for a table. However, the wait is worth it. We arrived after the breakfast crowd had dispersed and the tables were opening up for the lunch crowd. We were seated almost immediately and, as every seat is a great seat, it does not matter where you sit. You are in a train so there are not many choices (left or right?) If you come as a group larger than four, expect to be seated at different tables because there is no way to move tables (just imagine, you are on a train!) I had a spicy jalapeno and bacon burger (without the cheese) and it was very tasty and had a real BITE to it as the jalapenos were fresh and HOT (just the way they should be). The fries were full of flavor and there were just the right number. All in all a great lunch experience that needs to be repeated, next time for breakfast. read more

Upon arrival the door opened as we reached for it, a lovely young lady welcomed us with a warm smile. 5 stars. Of all things to order, I ended up with a remarkable Huckleberry Oatmeal with all the goodies! Excellent (skipped the dairy)! Second time I went there. This time I was with my father and a friend, they are both from out of town. My dad doesn't hear to well, especially in restaurants. I chose Franks and I am glad I did. The booth style reduced the normal noise so my dad could hear what we were saying, and the food was wonderful. It was on a Sunday so they were busy, but you wouldn't know it. I came back to Frank's North Side after a two year hold. I always have breakfast before a big event that I help out with and last Saturday was that event. Zoe took care of me and did so in top form. I had The Works omelet and it hit the spot. In fact, it was so good, I think I should have forgone the sourdough toast-had one piece. I even got my tomato juice as well. But I'm happy to say that I had 3 cups of coffee proving that I have not lost my taste for the beverage. I love every single thing about this place The ambience, the food, the staff. Our whole experience was positive. We came in around 8pm so it was pretty quiet the menu is a little overwhelming, so many delicious choices. I ended up going with the chicken and waffles, because well, duh. The chicken was moist, but crispy on the outside. The waffle was fluffy and wonderful. There were 3 of us in our party, and we did not order lightly, the total at the end was shockingly low considering the level of delicious. Well, Frank's diner is a little cramped, but you have to expect that seeing as how it's in an old railroad car. The chicken fried steak is delicious. The turkey, both sandwich, and complete dinner have always been very good. They used to, before COVID-19, cook the turkey fresh every day. I'm not sure if they're back to that or not. Other things that we've had there have all been good. The family loves to go there. The service is always provided by friendly waiters and waitresses. Nostalgic music plays in the dining car. It's in two locations in Spokane; one on the west side and the other on the east side on Highway 2. read more

Frank's has good diner food, but it's really tight in there and doesn't make for a pleasant experience. The wait staff is friendly, but you can tell most don't enjoy their job, and that makes me sad. You should enjoy what you do. We have been eaten there several times on different days and different times, usually ordering the same food but always with hash browns. I have two complaints: the hash browns are never cooked well - soggy in the middle and barely crisp (definitely not browned), and the coffee is sub par. I'm not planning another visit anytime soon. read more

Always phenomenal for any time of the day, but breakfast is our favorite! Coffee cup is never empty, and the food is never disappointing. Had biscuits and gravy done "Cloak and Dagger" style. ( never heard of this before) but basically it was two biscuits with white country gravy and two with brown gravy, both were excellent but I liked the brown gravy better. As always, the bacon was perfectly crisp as were the hash browns. The wife enjoyed her breakfast of sausage and eggs also. read more

Cute little train converted to a diner. It is really well decorated and restored so that was fun. Something different. Came in on a Friday afternoon around 1:30 for a late breakfast. Had the standard eggs and browns meal. Eggs were cooked well but the hash browns were definitely burned, not black but very dark brown and crunchy. The bacon was also very over cooked. Biscuits were fine. Spouse had the Florentine omelette which he said was good. His biscuit was dry but he said it was fine. Waitress was not too friendly, seemed a bit irritated about something. Apparently they were closing early for a wedding so seemed rushed. I was not impressed at all so will try another location. read more

Frank knows how to make some breakfast! And hire a great staff. Warmly greeted, seated promptly at the bar, and everything was efficient in getting my order and food, which by the way was fantastic. Had the corned beef hash and eggs, and it was spot on, one of the best I've had. The corned beef was perfectly made and lots of it. The hash with it was fresh and sautéed perfectly. Hash browns were nice and crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside. You can add gravy and/or sautéed onions, which I opted for the latter and they were fantastic - plump, caramelized, and the perfect pairing with the crispy hash browns. Eggs were cooked to a perfect over medium, just how I like'em. And they have nearly every kind of major hot sauce you desire. Bang up job Frank, from start to finish. Cool vibe too with being in the old train car and having the cooks right there in front of you. Has that classic diner feel, and old fashioned good service to go with it. This place is a traditional American breakfast diner. The food was so good, especially the hash brown was my favorite. We ordered a shake and surpassed by the portion. It was nice and filling. My favorite was their pancakes. Good size. I like eating them with butter and peanut butter (no syrup because I don't want a soggy pancake).
