I called him up on a random day and asked for the hours, thinking I would get a robot or an answering machine, and he said, "Come on over, I'm ready whenever you are!" I gathered my knives and brought them over, and not only did he sharpen them while I waited. We had a very lovely chat about life. Frank was knowledgeable and taught me things about my knives. Was great meeting Frank at his home shop. He's moved from the White Avenue address to 8221 Carrbridge Ct. Towson, MD. He entertained my 10 year old with magic tricks and jokes while we waited. Taught us the history of his family in the Baltimore area going back to his grandfather driving a horse drawn cart with sharpening wheel on the back catering to the locals sharpening needs in old Baltimore city in 1903. Incredibly friendly, will definitely go back when my knives are in need of sharpening. Give him a call first to make sure he's available, he will get you in and out quickly if he's there. He's at 8221 Carrbridge Court in Towson, MD now--check the picture of his current business card on here if there's a photo, he's been having trouble updating the online listings: Went a few weeks back to Frank for the first time, after having found several highly rated knife/tool sharpening pros online for my area, but none were that close, and had odd hours to the point of being impractical. I had multiple knives/tools that needed to be sharpened and had been for years, even in some cases after at-home sharpening systems couldn't do the job. So I finally resolved to find a good sharpener closer to me, and not stop till I did: luckily I found Frank's. I came in with a machete that unfortunately had some rough wear on it after a run in with some buried bricks on my property from the previous owner as I was clearing brush, and a drawknife that the manufacturer over-coated and left jagged and unsharpened (I'd have demanded a refund but it was an online order and you can barely find a place that sells drawknives around here, so I thought I'd wait and see if a pro could fix it). I didn't have high hopes for the drawknife especially, but Frank quickly refurbished both blades into useable and accurate tools: having to actually create an even edge and de-coat the drawknife in the process--and for a good price. Going back today for a long carving knife, and can't wait to see if back in the right condition. read more

I was lucky to find Frank to get my knives in shape for Thanksgiving. I called and he told me to come in same day. Prices are incredibly reasonable and I was able to sit and watch as he did my knives. This guy is a true craftsman. Awesome conversation as he kept me laughing the whole time he worked. My kitchen knives were getting dull and it was time to get them sharpen again. I used to do this myself with a whetstone, but it would take me about 30 mins per knife. I decided that to just use a local service to save time. I went online and Frank's Cutlery Service seems to have to best reviews. I called him up and it turns out he is doing his business out of his basement now which is fine too. He just have you wait in the drive way while he sharpens your knife. I brought a set of kitchen knives (paring, serrated, chef, and butcher) for him to sharpen. It cost me $13 for about 10 mins of time. He also showed me some tips on how to keep the knives sharp for a longer time and general maintenance tips. Very nice guy and I would highly recommend him again. I am someone that cooks a lot so it is essential that my knives are sharp and ready to go when I have to go. I brought them home and they were able to pass the tomato test, but not the paper test. I will still be okay with that given the cost and time it took for him to take care of me. read more

Great knife sharpening service. Frank sharpens knives for restaurants all across town. He's a 3rd generation sharpener and knows what he's doing. He's usually only open Tuesday/Thursdays, but you can call and set up a time as well. You may have to go find him in the back on his homemade boccie court. I think we brought ~8 knifes, big and small, and the cost was ~$27. He sharpened them while we waited, probably took ~15 minutes. You'll leave with some sharp knives. Also make sure to go watch a couple of rounds of boccie with the old italian guys in the back. read more

Great Guy!!! I called Frank Friday morning just to find out if he would be able to take care of a couple of knives before Turkey Day. He told me to come over that morning and took care of the knives in a matter of minutes. This was my first job but definitely not the last. FANTASTIC. We had a set of kitchen knifes totally redone by Frank. My wife has said that the next meal I do, I must use a recipe from the classes I took at the Italian Cultural Center! My review of Frank's Cutlery Service, posted to Google - "Well, Frank was very friendly and he is my former neighbor. I had been referred to him as he is in walking distance. I was making arrangements to have him sharpen my scythe blade and he gave me his new address but we discussed that I may be able to drop off the blade at his old home. I just decided to ask him why he relocated, as it seemed neighborly. He had some bad experiences, including it sounded like he was assaulted in the '70s, since a few decades ago. But I heard him use terminology such as "the darks" moved in and I believe, "it (the neighborhood) turned to pepper" - I asked him to repeat himself. He repeated the pepper phrase. He clarified that the darks meant "you know" Black people. I then informed Frank that I am Black. He called me "m'aam"; I told him to have a good day & may GOD bless you. I decided to show mercy and terminated the call w/ only that warning - that I am Black. I had a man call me me nigger to my face about apprx 25 yrs ago; I was apprx 8-10 yrs old. Since then I have never had anyone make the mistake of calling me out of my name again to me directly. Funny, here I am a Black woman, professional, homeowner, chose to patronize my neighbor and obviously keep my lawn decent because I needed my scythe sharpened. People are entitled to believe what they want and I am entitled to take my money elsewhere to a place that people won't dare call me out of my name or be wise to not talk that way to a me, as a potential customer.
