Soft Giant Pretzel
Lauren S.

Generally have a great time at franklin hall - bartenders are great, they have games you can take out, and so much seating! My main complaint is that we went on a Sunday, which was an all day happy hour, and they didn't have any food items for happy hour ( happy hour wasn't amazing either, $9 for a pretty weak wine pour). We did get a giant pretzel and french fries and they were great, lots of food! I also got a cocktail that was not on that happy hour menu and it was delicious (although pretty tiny)!

We hosted our holiday party here and it was such a nice time! They had awesome decor and allowed us to provide some live music. The buffet spread they put out was also really tasty, that was one of the best brownies I've had in a long time. And the Caesar salad was very filling!

Chili cheese dog

This review is purely just for this beast of a hotdog, OVER a foot in length, with chili and cheese, with tots or fries. It was insane and 48 hours later I'm still digesting it.

Dark and stormy for the trivia night

We were looking for places to play Trivia on Tuesday night and found this place online. I called them to confirm if they had it still going on. My husband and I went with a couple of our friends. Happy hour ends at 7 and trivia starts at 7. Great drink prices during their happy hour. It's a big place with various styles of seating arrangements for larger groups as well as smaller groups. They also have 3 nice pool tables and I heard that they host APA travel league here. There were many teams for the trivia night. Almost 40 teams. We came 18th. Not bad as I such at trivia. Absolutely looking forward to going back again.

2.5 The venue itself is pretty cool, huge inside with a modern rustic feel. There's a long bar against one side of the bar, with the food options across the way. I was there for a party and our group was occupying a back space in the hall. I was impressed with the beer selection and went with a delightful sour. I had a nice interaction with the bartender, so the 2.5 stars were for this. Once I had a drink in hand, I went in pursuit of food. I ordered the hotdogs, which came with fries, and the fried pickles. I was unhappy to find the hotdogs were already dressed with ketchup, mustard, and onions, when I collected my food. I don't like ketchup on hotdogs. So I had to scrape off most of that. The fries were ok when they were warm but absolutely useless if they cooled down at all. Fried pickles were decent. I rarely frequent DC, so it's unlikely I'll be visiting here again or often, but if I did, it would be to drink, not to eat.

Came here to watch an Arsenal game (Go Gunners!) and it did not disappoint! First I want to talk about the organization of the facility. I love how they have the bar where you can order but if you want food you can also order at a separate window. They also have buzzers for food and it makes things so much easier to manage. The environment was so fun! The drinks and food were good! And staff was always coming around collecting cups and trash so it was very clean. Will definitely be going back!

Grilled Chicken BBQ BLT and tater tots

This is a great bar to watch Sunday night football, tons of seating unlike some other places in the area. Food is also pretty tasty, lots of different dipping sauces available which I appreciate. They also have games available to "check out", just leave your ID with the bouncer. Ordered the grilled chicken BLT, with a side of Tater tots. Tater tots so good we got a couple side orders for the table! I have already been here a couple times and will continue to do so!

a real lively place, went for my friend's grad party and had a lovely time !! as far as beer halls go, this one is pretty standard, but much larger than you'd think. they have a rotating beer menu they keep updated via digital screen which is excellent and very clear (even categorized the beers, thank heavens). seems like a place ppl go to watch some kind of sports game, keep that in mind. just as a heads up, the restrooms are gender neutral and single stall !

Wings (8) Mozzarella Sticks
Vielka E.

Great sports bar. Many TVs and they have a pool table. The wings were baked, which aren't my favorite. The mozzarella sticks had a great cheesy pull. I'd come back here if I need to watch any sports games. Staff will turn on TVs for you.

This was a wonderful place to go with family (adults) after a wonderful dinner nearby. We wanted to frequent a lively place where we could also spend quality time together playing pool and having a few brews. We found it and we had a great time. Franklin Hall occupies the footprint of a previous huge commercial laundry facility that existed when I lived in DC back over a decade ago. As a result, the place is huge and they recently expanded. The two sides have their own full bar and the "old" part has the food service with dining tables and bar. The "new" side has a bar, pool tables, and a large sitting area. The place is just HUGE. We entered and they were having live music and an interview with locally famous people surrounded by a very friendly audience. We admired the beer menu, which contained a large selection of local microbrews as well as national brews. I had the Franklin Hall IPA that was shipped from Chicago. It was delightful. We then entered the next side with the pool tables. Although well frequented, it was spacious enough for conversation. Many groups, including sports teams, were having a great time, enjoying brews and having lively conversations. The salient feature of the venue - besides the brews - is just what a fun, and inclusive place it is. Every race, ethnicity and orientation was present. With a huge rainbow flag at one end. We had a superb time.

It's a basement bar with a bit of a dive vibe, but it's hard to ignore the nautical, blue crab theme throughout. Turns out that one of the owners is a Marylander, which is cool to see reflected in the decor in a place in dc, even though it is next door. They have a happy hour and they have a great variety of drinks in general. It's bring-your-own-food (BYOF) and there are a bunch of delicious looking Asian spots nearby, including upstairs. It didn't start getting crowded until closer to 10, which, as I said, is surprising for this part of town to me. Everywhere in Chinatown is not going to be packed and busy, and this place is here to remind you of that. Stop by if you're looking for a more chill vibe. Staff are pretty cool.

They are happy to recommend beer for your taste, and let you sample. It can be very busy and difficult to get a seat at the bar or get a table on a Friday or Saturday evening. We ordered food, and were expecting elevated bar food. The tater tots were a huge disappointment- they were very large squares , bland, and not crispy. The wings were okay. The cheeseburgers were the best- from the restaurant downstairs- mallard. Huge burger, done perfectly medium.

I understand not really putting crab, since most crab rangoons skimp on that (although it's disappointing for the cost), but to not put more than a tiny smear of cream cheese and to have hardly any sauce too? It was so dry, it really made me sad. Neither of those ingredients are expensive enough to justify being stingy. The concept alone should have made this a home run, but it was like if you bit into a crab rangoon and it was empty. I hope this was an off night because the amount they charged for what was basically just a slice of bread was shocking. It's spacious and seems like a fun place to hang out but I am really hesitating to order food here again despite adoring Mallard downstairs. The food quality is like night and day.

I ordered the SW Salad ($16.50) with a steak add on ($9.00) at medium temp. I also ordered a cup of Clam Chowder ($5.95) as an appetizer. Chowder came out pretty much right on top of my salad, but no big deal. Chowder was decent taste, but only found one clam. Ok whatever. Salad came out looking like a side salad on a large plate with five slices of rare, tough steak. It was so rare, that it was extremely hard to cut through, but again, who was I going to talk to about it. No wait staff would even look my way. I couldn't even get a refill on my water and there is no place in the app to order a glass of water...so that's that. Unfortunately it was just an extremely bad experience for $40. I'll be looking for dinner somewhere else tomorrow night.

Happy Hour here was such a pleasant surprise on our recent visit to the area…read more We wanted a place to grab a drink before dinner and my husband suggested The Sovereign. It seemed more of a craft beer place and did not strike my fancy at first for that reason, but I was game to give it a try. I'm glad I did! We arrived during their happy hour (from 5-6:30) and chose to sit in the cozier and quieter downstairs bar. Upstairs was a little more rowdy and like a sports bar - nothing wrong with that, just not our vibe that night. The bartender greeted us promptly, and we chose a few things from the happy hour menu: Getting Alsace-y with Everyone for our drink, then the fries and Belgian meatballs. The drink was refreshing and the food was very flavorful and balanced. All said and done, we agreed that this was our favorite place we visited that evening.
