    Cacio E Pepe

Came here on a random day and there was no one. the spicy rigatoni is fantastic i totally recommend it. really top tier pasta. i wasn't a fan of the cacio pepe at all it was heavily drenched in grease. the pizza tri color was pretty good and a staple dish of theirs. ambiance is a romantic italian restaurant vibe. best spicy rigatoni in the area for sure. there's a discrepancy with the menu price and bill price fyi. other than that, the service was good but that's probably because i was the only one there

I was here on Saturday after making reservations for my wedding anniversary dinner. My husband has been dying to come here for a while and it didn't disappoint. It was very busy on Saturday and i was so glad i made reservations. After checking in, we were seated right away. The owner Nick came and introduced himself and brought us a bottle to celebrate. We were given garlic knots as well and they were sooo good and fresh. We ordered Caesar salads, i had cacio e Pepe with shrimp and my husband had bolognese with meat sauce. Everything was made to perfection and fresh! We also ordered one of each dessert which were both phenomenal. There was a group of people that came in singing making the night more fun and romantic. They are a cash only restaurant which is important to keep in mind. We didn't know this and my husband had to take money out of their on-site atm but this is something to know ahead of time for sure. The restaurant is clean, the bathrooms were super clean! This is a small intimate location but well worth it! I already can't wait to come back and i thank the staff and owner for a great 10th anniversary dinner to remember !

Insanely good Gnocchi a la vodka

Visting Arthur Avenue and it was time for lunch. Surprisingly there were many NON-ITALIAN places...but luckily we found Frankies. Right away the atmosphere screams COZY ITALIAN RESTAURANT. The staff make you feel right at home and let you know they can customize anything and if they don't have it, they'll go get it on Arthur Avenue and make it for you special. Wow. Everything is sourced from Arthur Avenue. They make their own pasta in house as well. So before I've even LOOKED at the menu I'm feeling pretty good. Then comes a basket of amazing garlicky bread and some lovely oil... The menu isn't HUGE but has a lot to offer...I'm looking for simple...something that will tell me just how good this place really is. I settle for Gnocchi a la vodka and my wife goes for the Cacio e Pepe. Two simple dishes..no where to hide. Both were excellent. The gnocchi were perfectly cooked tender and pillowy, and the vodka sauce was rich and velvety. Now...when I order it next time...coz I will...I'll ask for a spicy version like their Penne...I thinking that might be even better. The Cacio e Pepe was PERFECT. Maybe the best cooked pasta I've eaten outside of Italy...flavor totally on point as well. Portions were generous and I left nothing behind. Looking forward to a return for dinner, and to enjoy a long meal with multiple courses.

It was Parents' Weekend at Fordham University, and our daughters made a reservation at Frankie's, as they had heard so many great things about the restaurant. And boy, did it deliver on all the recommendations! The food was fantastic and the service even better. We loved every minute of it; it had a cool ambiance, from the endless Frank Sinatra playlist (therefore, Frankie's!) to the delicious desserts. We will definitely make a reservation for our next trip to the Bronx.

They have a charming little bar up front and the tables are comfortably spaced, giving the place a nice relaxed feel. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. We started with the clams oreganata--perfectly seasoned--and a fresh, well-prepared burrata caprese salad. For my main, I had the sausage & broccoli rabe pasta, which was absolutely delicious. The spicy rigatoni vodka was also very flavorful. Great dish. They were unfortunately out of the chicken Milanese and several wines we asked about, leaving only the house red available, which was a bit surprising. That aside, everyone really enjoyed their meals and left happy.

A couple of months ago I reconnected with a friend who happened to be in the Bronx for the day and wanted to go to Little Italy. As a BX native I spent a lot of time in the area with my grandmother when I was younger. It seems that Little Italy has shrunk, but the staples are still thriving. We decided to grab Lunch at Frankie's, it was 2:15pm on Saturday. Only a couple tables including ours were occupied. Service was good but the food just was ok. We started with the Pear Salad w/o the feta. The salad was fresh, crisps and had a nice balance. I ordered Shrimp Scampi and a glass of white wine. As foodie I rarely mention or complain about price in my reviews. I feel that you pay for great food and good experiences. (We also all know that everything has increased) Needless to say my entrée of pasta and shrimp wasn't not as flavorful as I would have hoped, and my shrimps were overcooked. Disappointing at almost $40 bucks. (Full disclaimer it was $36). My friend order spaghetti and meatballs and also wasn't blown away. Both dishes are basics which I expected to be perfected and executed with ease at an Italian restaurant. Overall it was enjoyable to catch up with an old friend and take in a bit of nostalgia while walking down Arthur Ave. Just A Note: We enjoyed the pear salad and appreciated the service.

Stopped here on a Saturday night while in town and looking for Italian. This was a huge travel investment - staying in Manhattan and this being located near the Bronx Zoo. After using the subway and then a short uber (it was freezing out), we showed up for our reservation. We were sat in the dining room and placed a drink order. This is a dimly-lit place that is very intimate and isn't very big. I would recommend making a reservation. We started with a pizza to start as an appetizer - going with the trio sauce pizza. This has pesto, marinara, and vodka sauce on it - and was very good. Crust was great and the dough was fresh. I asked of I could do a half portion of the cacio e pepe with plans to get the chicken parmigiana - but was denied the request. So I got both. Cacio e pepe was standard, but nothing over the top exceptional. The chicken parm was good - a very large portion with several cutlets and a side of pasta. One thing I will say is the pasta here is prepared perfectly al dente. Which I really appreciate. The desserts didn't really grab us so we hopped in an uber and headed back to manhattan.

This place was a hidden gem! I don't give out 5 stars easily, but this spot absolutely deserves it. Conveniently located not far from the highway exit, with plenty of easy parking--even on a Monday evening. We arrived around 6:30 PM and were seated immediately. They started us off with complimentary garlic knots, and wow--so good! We ordered the pear salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken alla vodka. Every dish was excellent--flavorful, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, attentive, and our food came out quickly. I'd definitely come back again--highly recommend!

We are visiting from Hawaii and we're roaming around the area and came across this place right at opening for lunch. Nick was so nice to let us in to sit at the bar and wait for opening since we were there early. Super friendly and family feel atmosphere - it's a family run restaurant for at least 50 years or so. We ordered the shrimp scampi and the meatballs which were delicious! And the fresh baked bread knots too! Highly recommend this place! He gave us some tips for the neighborhood places to try too!

I am embarrassed to say I have worked out of New York for the last four years and haven't made it to what some call the "real" Little Italy. For those late to the party, many say Little Italy in the Bronx is much more authentic than the one in Manhattan. Another disclaimer: this was DoorDash delivery, but it was still GREAT! So it leads me to believe that in person would be amazing. I got: Cacio e pepe: spaghetti, pecorino Romano, fresh black pepper. Simple, no extra oil, not watery. This is the way this dish is supposed to be served. Superb. Spicy rigatoni alla vodka: tomato sauce, Calabrian chili, speck, shallots, cream. Definitely creamy. Perfect amount of kick/spice. Decadent. I also ordered a couple veggies: broccoli, which was cooked perfectly, and mushrooms, also cooked perfectly, with a little char. This place offers many classics: spaghetti and meatballs, bolognese, several renditions of linguine, carbonara, pesto, several chicken and seafood dishes. While I only experienced a limited sampling of their basic dishes, and through DoorDash, it reinforces the fact that I need to visit Arthur Avenue and the "Little Italy" of the Bronx.

The crispy octopus easily rivals anything I've had in Manhattan, super tender with just the right crisp. The cassava hash browns were so good I was almost annoyed by how simple they were. Paired with a rich, meaty sauce and a fresh fennel crunch, the whole dish was incredibly balanced. The wings were the most straightforward item on the menu (in the best way), lightly spiced, slightly sweet, and great for picky eaters. Someone needs to give the bartenders a raise. I ordered three drinks just to test consistency--every single one was balanced, spirit-forward, and not overly sweet. The presentation was different on each one and felt intentional without being gimmicky. I've seen some of the lower Yelp ratings and they mostly call out price, but this is very much a you get what you pay for situation. The quality of the food, the portion sizes (especially for this level of execution), and the overall intentionality behind the menu justify it in my opinion. Service was excellent. They squeezed me in last minute, and my waiter, Dionicio, handled my coconut allergy (not easy at a Dominican spot) with real care and ease. The space itself is worth mentioning - moody, mushroom/mossy interiors. Super cute, very well thought out, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.

They are made just right and it brings a lot! I ordered a lychee martini which I couldn't even finish after my meal, I forgot the name of the other drink I ordered but it was HUGE and delicious, I added a picture for reference.i ordered the oxtail samosas which were soooo goood, seafood on fire LITERALLY , and the coconut cod croquetas. For dessert I got the dulce de coco Enyucao which comes with vanilla ice cream on top, passion fruit caramel, cassava as the base and shredded coconut cake roll. The server then comes and pours a very delicious "sauce" all around it making it a beautiful experience by itself. This dessert is enough for 2/3 people. The ambiance is very cozy, trendy and refreshing. It doesn't feel like you're in the Bronx at all, it gives luxury vacation energy. The place is great for pictures. I recommend you take a cab because parking during the evening will be horrible, there's a lot of popular bars and restaurants around the area. I noticed they have changed the menu, they have taken some things out and they also change the presentation of the drinks so you might want to go directly to their website or to their Instagram to get more updated visuals of what they are currently offering. They had the option to choose fresh fish sitting in the ice or cooked food from the kitchen. I opted for grilled branzino, shrimp and veggies. My family ordered the fried options. Also relatively loud Spanish music playing the entire time. not an issue but I did have to ask her to lower the volume because it was only 5 pple in the entire restaurant and I couldn't hear our convo at the table over the music. The timing of when the food came out was interesting so fried food first. I was waiting for my grilled food for another 10 mins and the rest of the dishes came out separately within 5-10 mins of each other. The fried food was not fresh but frozen. When questioned, the waitress said everything was fresh we can tell it was not. To preface we eat seafood often so we can absolutely tell. It would've been fine but the shrimp itself was tasteless, soggy/moist under the batter and the batter was falling off because of it. I would dare say the shrimp was pre cooked and frozen before it was fried. No flavor and chewy. My mom and grandma said the fish was okay it had a very fish stick look to it but no real complaints about the fried fish. (Whiting and catfish) My grilled food was just okay. The vegetables were solid I ate that with no issues, onions, peppers and eggplant. The branzino was a good texture asked for it to be butterflied but no real flavor. I had to add salt and pepper for taste. The shrimp was also okay but nothing to write home about. I wasn't super impressed but it was okay.
