this place was pretty empty on a weekday probably due to the high prices, but i was honestly quite happy with the food. i got the fettucine al filetto di pomodoro which was the cheapest pasta on their menu but still $23. the fettucine was made very well and the tomato sauce tasted fresh with surprisingly strong basil flavor. i also enjoyed the chickpeas and breadsticks even though im usually not huge on them. service was great. i would definitely return for the food if it werent so pricey but as it is, probably only a place to go for special occasions. read more

Pasta Pasta has been in the neighborhood for years - I remember as a kid walking down Williamsbridge Rd and seeing its sign colored like the Italian flag popping out from its neighboring businesses. Despite this, I have seldom dined here besides the occasional holiday meal. That's what bought me to my latest dining experience, when my family decided to grab dinner here for Easter. Pasta Pasta is situated in a small strip mall on Williamsbridge Rd, but since it's in the corner unit it has a decent entryway and a good amount of space on the inside. It's not the largest restaurant but they have an open dining area with a small private room to the side. The decor is a bit dated and tired, but there are huge windows that line the front of the restaurant that makes the entire space bright. The menu is typical of other neighborhood Italian restaurants, though they have a pretty big selection which was nice to see. For the Easter holiday they had a number of specials in addition to giving us the option to order from the menu. We started with some hot and cold antipasto, fried calamari, and fried zucchini. Everything was pretty good - it wasn't the best antipasto I've had, but I did enjoy the fried calamari; I applaud them for having rings *and* legs. For my main I had the lasagna. The dish looked substantial and amazing, but unfortunately the flavor fell short for me. The meat and sauce were a little bland, and the pasta was over-cooked. Service was good, holidays are rough but they were super attentive. Overall, I feel that Pasta Pasta kind of suffers from being a warm body - it's been around for many years and it doesn't seem like much has changed. This restaurant looks like a place out of kitchen nightmares. Everything is dated and it kind of looks like you are walking into a funeral parlor. The chairs had to be bought from a flea market or the local banquet hall. There wasn't a soul in there for lunch too. The location is kind of hidden in a little strip mall so not many people probably know about it. Now when you walk in and sit down they bring over an easel with the specials which is old school. I felt like I was in the 80's. The whole set up needs to get a spruce up. With that being said the Eggplant parm was actually pretty good which surprised me honestly. The Bread they bring to the table was also fresh. They also bring this chick pea salad with the breas that is good. I have never seen something like that at an italian place but I loved it. My coworker ordered a pasta dish and she liked it. I don't think the pasta is homemade but I didn't expect that from a place like this. The tomato sauce was flavorful though and that is a good sign. Aside from the decor everything was good. Looks like they need to put the same care into the decor as they do with the food. The service was good and the people were nice. With a little updating this place has a chance. I have it at 3.5 stars. read more

Delicious appetizers, entrees, salads, soups, and dessert. Truly had a wonderful experience at this restaurant didn't give it the five star because the delivery wasn't up to par. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't as good as eating it in the restaurant. So if you can eat in don't order out. My opinion but I love them. Pasta pasta is a favorite. I was in town for my nephews graduation from college and many members of my family have eaten at this restaurant before, and some even live in the Bronx. We made a reservation because there were 8 of us and had a perfect table. Service is perfect. Everyone is welcoming and lovely. We started with a number of appetizers - the beet salad with goat cheese, walnuts, arugula, lovely balsamic dressing, baked baby clams, calamari and lots of great bread and breadsticks. For dinner, two of us had the special rib eye, also the pasta Bolognese, fettucine alfredo and the rigatoni segreta - I tasted it and was amazing. For dessert, we did cappuccinos all around, cannoli's and tiramisu. And of course plenty of wine - which were great pours. Service was attentive...but there again there were only 4 other occupied tables during the mid-week prime dinner hour. Here's what we ordered: -calamari fritti ($11.95): not too breaded, served with cocktail sauce. Average. -chicken cardinale ($17.95): daily special. 2 pieces of chicken which were topped with cheese. Great food with big portion. The bread is one of the best bread I had. HOWEVER, the waitress was very rude. We asked for 9 appetizers to share within a big group, she served 1. When we asked where are the rest, she said we didn't order it CLEARLY. Excuse me? First it's common sense to confirm the order with the customer; Second if you are confused who ordered what, write it down; Third, if you missed a dish, it doesn't help to blame on the customer? This review is for a takeout order. I've eaten in Pasta Pasta many (too many,lol) times in the past and it was always good. As time has passed the quality of the food has gotten worse and I stopped going there. Today, on a whim we decided to get and eggplant parm and a side of meatball delivered to the house. The delivery was prompt. I'm giving it two stars because the delivery was quick and the meatballs where very good. On to the eggplant. It was horrid to put it gently. A large round tin filled with a good 2.5 lbs of watery, tough as shoe leather eggplant. The eggplant was not breaded and fried it was layers upon layers of what seemed like semi raw eggplant with no cheese between the layers just some melted on top. The middle was lukewarm. I took one bite and threw it in the trash. Honest to god. It was a soupy watery mess. One of the top 5 worst things I have ever eaten. I wish I would have taken a picture of it before I chucked in the garbage. read more

I live in Manhattan, but I travel to Bronx for great Italian food at Pasta-Pasta. The chef must be complimented. Though everything is tasty, I would have to say their eggplant parm is outstanding & delicious.(I get it to go-and I prefer it without cheese) In most restaurants eggplant is tough and hard. But the eggplant here is tender and the tomato sauce is fantastic. Nobody makes eggplant like Pasta-Pasta! I also LOVE their potato croquettes. Never coming here again. Save your money, not worth it at all. The servers are extremely pushy, which is annoying.. I'm already here so the restaurant is going to make money. Don't push me. Secondly, I ordered a salad which was $7 on the menu. Then the waiter asks if I want anything with that like chicken or shrimp, I said no but then was like ok shrimp. I thought okay it'll be maybe 6-8$ extra as normally in other local spots. The food was average, not bad nor good. Just average. Then he offers dessert or coffee, which my mom says yes to coffee and no to anything else. 2 mins later he comes with the dessert cart showing us all the desserts, like what? We said no. Respect that. Lastly, we get the bill. My salad was 22.95$. What the... I was livid, I've never been charged so much in a local spot and for something that was worth half the price. He should've mentioned that 4 additional shrimps to my salad was going to cost $15. Not only did we pay substantially more than what the entire experience and food was worth, I left with an extremely bitter taste. However, I did voice my complaints and was done the "favor" of getting my bill reduced my two whole dollars. I guess half of one of the shrimps was free? On first impressions I was a tad bit disappointed, the outside looked like a chain restaurant. Inside it got better, I loved the walls with decorated shutters and painted motif of windows overlooking sprawling gardens in Italy! It's not top notch fine dining decor but I felt comfortable right away! What's a restaurant without a great staff, that's where "Paco" and his assistant comes in. We were well taken care of in their care! Down to why we are all here, the food!! They have a very large menu plus a specials board. Usually this is not a good sign! I ordered straight from the specials starting with their Spinach and white bean soup with crumbled hot sausage in a hearty broth!! I LOVED this soup!! If I could have licked the bowl real lady like I would have!! The entree was huge and colorful and delicious! It was the Penne Paisano with penne, broccoli rabe, sun dried tomatoes in a garlicky oil, and I asked them to throw in some of that nice, hot sausage!!! This was three meals for me! I had to pack most of it up, but this dish was a winner!! My hubby's dish unfortunately was not a winner. He had the penne Alla Vodka with a very watery, weak tasting sauce. Oh well! Excellent Italian food at moderate prices. This is a true neighborhood place, with traditional Italian meals. Their pasta is outstanding, their steak pizzaiola is just delish and they make a terrific chicken francese, which is my meal of choice when I eat there! Usually a nice selection of desserts, though I tend to go with the tartufo! They have a small room for parties, and from my own personal experience, I can tell you that they do a wonderful family gathering. I must disagree with previous reviews who comment on the service here. An elderly man waited on us, and he made absolutely sure we got everything we need when we needed it. Water? Bam, got it. Parmesean cheese? Bam, got it. Bread? Bam, got it. Oh, more cheese? Bam, got it. the menu was in mostly italian, so we asked our elderly waiter to explain many of the items to us. He was patient with our ignorance. I've lived near this restaurant for almost a year now and hadn't tried it until a few months ago. A couple of friends and I decided to eat there because we were in the mood for Italian. I thought it was just going to be like any other neighborhood Italian restaurant, but I was in for a surprise. The Italian was pretty authentic. The menu was in Italian, but they had their daily specials in English. I had to use all the bits of Italian I learned during my study-abroad in Europe to try to interpret the menu. The service was good. The staff is always smiling and paying attention, ready to refill glasses of water and to ask if you are enjoying the meal. The food comes in fairly large portions, so you're likely taking food home. I went with my fiance and a friend and we didn't have room left for dessert. We had to take cheesecake to go! The food is above average, full of flavor and very satisfying. My fiance had the chicken parm, which was deliciously cheesy (I love cheese) and the chicken was tender and crunchy. The neighborhood is still great and this restaurant exemplifies good old-fashioned Bronx Italian cooking. The ambiance is great and its a good spot to take a significant other for lunch or dinner. Parking however, can be an issue but they do have valet. Went here for lunch after a business meeting yesterday and was given on the house, a small chickpea salad and some Fresh Arthur Ave bread. So, a nice start. I ordered the eggplant parm. The eggplant parm was made fresh to order. However, I would not rate it up there with the likes of Tino's Deli or Mike's Deli on Arthur ave. For me, I feel that Eggplant parm needs to sit, for a few hours at least before serving. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty and tender, but for those who have experienced top of the line eggplant, the dish needs time to rest. The portion was very big. I had to take half of it home. I was going to rate this experience 3 stars because of that, but when I reheated my food when I got home, the eggplant was much better. I probably didn't order their strongest dish, as diners around me were loving their meals. I will definitely be back to try another dish and update this review. This is a very nice little place in the Morris Park section of the Bronx. It's cozy and has friendly waiters. I sat down and ordered an Italian beer that I had never heard of before, Menabrea. I didn't think much about it and the waiter was nice enough to bring me my usual Heineken and not charge me for the Menabrea. That was nice of him. They brought over a complimentary basket of warm bread and breadsticks and a dish of bean (fagioli) salad. Then I ordered my meal. I chose one of the daily chef specials they were offering. It was the baked chicken breast with mushrooms and pancetta au gratin. It came with a side order. I chose the potato crochette and a half portion of spaghetti carbonara. When my order arrived, I was surprised that the pasta order was so large. I think they brought me out a whole pasta order and not the half! The pasta was very good, loaded with chunks of pancetta. The potato crochette was a nice sized portion and was very soft, with a thin crispy crust and not oily at all. The 2 chicken breasts were moist and tender. they were prepared with fontina cheese (I think), a slice of escarole on top of that and smothered with big pieces of mushrooms, then melted grated cheese. It was tasty and too big of a portion for me to finish I took home the leftover chicken and pasta. I had a slice of Italian cheesecake before I left. This was ok. The entire meal bill came out to $42. The prices are very reasonable. I could have skipped the pasta and the cheescake and saved a decent amount of money ($15) and not had any leftovers.
