I have been to this restaurant at least 12-15 times. It's my go to place on Arthur Avenue. I have brought friends and family to lunch and dinner, and I had a reunion there for 12 people. I have given this place excellent reviews in the past. But unfortunately, I was very disappointed yesterday. My friend and I went for lunch as we do whenever we shop at Arthur Ave. We ordered one appetizer, one entre and a carafe of wine and our bill came to $168.00. The Eggplant rollatini appetizer was $25 and the small piece of salmon with vegetables was $35. Wine $40. A 20% tip was automatically added to our check, and the tip was computed on the total including tax. What restaurant adds 20% tip on a table for 2??? Service was poor and I had to go into the main restaurant twice to ask for red pepper and cheese and eventually the check. There was one other table of 2 when we got there which left before we finished and another table of 2 came in while we were still eating. It wasn't crowded. My friend ordered a shot of lemoncello and I asked for a small side of pasta to go with our entre, we were charged $12 each for these items. I eat out often and know that everything has become very expensive BUT $168.00 for one app and one entre and wine??? If we ordered 2 apps and 2 entrees the bill would have been $230-$250 We usually get 2 limoncellos comped after dinner. I'm not looking for anything free but good regular customers should be treated better than this. I will say that the food is excellent and we enjoyed it. I am offering these comments as constructive criticism to Moishe. He did refund the $12 for limoncello when I told him I was disappointed. read more

The food & service were amazing. My waiter was George and he was fantastic. I had the Cacio y Pepe with shrimp and it was super good. They make their pasta fresh & the shrimp was fresh also. You can taste the quality in their food. My favorite thing was definitely their roasted peppers sauce with bread, there's magic in that sauce. Starting with the positive, the service was welcoming, casual, and timely. We didn't wait long for anything, and our needs were well attended to. The ambiance is also very casual, with cheap but comfortable enough chairs, poorly painted and dark walls, and awful pop-Italian music playing. I don't care too much about the atmosphere, as it wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest had the food been better. Unfortunately the food was nearly awful. We should have guessed, as a table next to us sent back three of their five dishes hardly touched. We were already eating our arancini (which was palatable enough) when this occurred, so we hoped maybe they were just incredibly picky. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli, and my partner ordered the red tagliatelle salmon limoncello, a special today. The most flavorful thing about the butternut squash was the shredded cheese they brought to the table with it. It was bland, wet, with very little color and even less flavor. My partner fared a little better, saying his pasta was alright but the salmon was very bland. After a morning at the New York Botanical Garden, we always go to try a new restaurant on Arthur Ave and Gerbasi Ristorante is where I wanted to go. It's a small cozy place and the kitchen is tiny by proportion. They open at 11:30 on Sunday and we walked in just before noon and had the whole place to ourselves for the whole time. Many of the restaurants on the block don't open until at least 12 or 1pm. We sat at the front table inside because it was a hot 90° outside, but otherwise I would have wanted to sit in the backyard patio. Since we were the only customers, we had the undivided attention of the staff, so our water was always filled and the food came out in record time. You start with some crusty Italian bread with their signature Sun-dried tomato and EVOO sauce, which is incredible. I wish they would bottle that stuff up. They have a whole board of Specials of the Day, so definitely check those out. For appetizers for our group of 6, we shared the Clams Oreganata, Fried Calamari & Artichokes, Fried Meatballs and a Caesar Salad. The calamari was awesome with very lightly battered coating fried to a crisp that didn't separate and the fried artichoke was a perfect complement, not filler. The fried meatballs looked really dark but tasty and came in a minty cream sauce that worked well in the taste dept. Somehow, as a group we decided without conferring to order double of 3 different specials because they sounded so good. The double portions of Soft Shell Crab Francese, Rigatoni al Forno and Pappardelle in Osso Buco Ragu came out really fast and were all really good. The lemony sauteed crab came over linguini was a little on the fishy side though. You could tell the pappardelle pasta was made really fresh from the chew of the first bite. The flavors of the sauces have a unique southern Italian flavor with other Mediterranean influences, which is also shown by all the fresh seafood they have on the menu. Even though we like to try all the great restaurants along Arthur Ave, we might have to double back for another taste! read more

Classic. Classic. Yummy. Came here after an evening at the orchid show at the Botanical Gardens. It was pretty late in the evening so the place wasn't packed. Perfect. Ironically the decor here included a sprinkling of orchids. Talk about a perfect theme. Oh my goodness. Here we go. The food was spectacular. Specifically the Pork Ragu with beautiful homemade pappardelle pasta. Singular best pasta I have had in months. The gnocchi was also amazing. Sometimes it can be tough without the pillowy bounce. This was not the case. Stunning as well. This restaurant doesn't pop up towards the top of yelp but don't be fooled. The food is ridiculously good. read more

They handed me an APEROL made with Cheap Moscato.... And when I asked for a refund they said they didn't know how. I was reasonable, and I asked for another. I walked the bartender thru how to make it. My pizza arrives and I ask if I could get the drink in a plastic cup to go since I live close. This picture is what I was handed. Absolutely would give 0 stars if I could. My parents loved this restaurant when it was Gerbasi's and wanted to take my husband and I. We went and there was one other table. It started out fine - they took our order and we got our appetizer in a reasonable time. But it went downhill after that. The other table got there after us and had more people and somehow got their dinners before us (they got appetizers too - so they had their appetizers and very quickly got their dinner). Over thirty minutes passed between our appetizers being taken away and still no food. And we finally said something and they....hadnt been making it. They just forgot about half of their restaurant. When the food came out it was terrible. My husband's raviolis, the special, were so salty he could barely eat them. I ordered spaghetti carbonara and I have no idea what they brought me but it absolutely was not carbonara. My dad's meatballs were burned. They barely apologized and while they gave us an overpriced bottle of cheap wine for free, we just wanted to leave. No meal was taken off and no sincere apologies. They said they were missing a waiter; but again there were two tables. We got there at 4 and didn't get our (terrible) food until 5:30. read more

I Love Gerbasi. I randomly ran into this restaurant in 2021 during the pandemic. At the time dining in was not an option so i never truly got to see the inside of the restaurant. They had a table set up as soon as you walked in and someone would ask if you were there for pick up, confirm your order and hand off the food. NOW that the world is finally getting back to normal, i decided that i needed to visit Gerbasi. I went on a sunday for lunch with my husband and daughter. We made no reservations. We were greeted immediately at the door. We were not asked for vaccination cards either. The restaurant is beautiful, simple and clean. They have wall paper with a map of italy on one of the walls. They also have a picture of the Mona Lisa hanging on the wall. The bar was beautiful. So neat. So clean. All of the bottles beautiful lined it. The menu i received had crumbs in it, that was the only dirty item i came in contact with. I cannot give enough credit to the SERVICE. George was our waiter and he was such a gem. He immediately let us know that they were short staffed but he promised to get to us as much as possible. I respected that and loved the heads up. He came back with a white dry erase board that listed all of the specials. He told us he would be back and he did. George went through every single item on the specials menu. He gave details about what ingredients were in the dishes and how they were prepared. I have NEVER had a waiter go into such details. The bartender was also very helpful. He came to our table and refilled our drinks, asked if we wanted additional drinks and removed plates and cups from our table. My husband is the most complicated man when it comes to drinks and i was so happy that the bartender was able to make him something he loved. Everyone was so friendly and had great smiles pn their faces. I loved it. My daughter ordered a Margarita pizza. It came with pizza sauce, plum tomatoes, basil and Mozzarella cheese. She loved it. I also tasted it and it was great. The dough is fluffy and chewy. I ordered one of the specials of the day. It was ravioli stuffed with sausage and mushrooms with a sage butter garlic sauce. It was good. The edges of the pasta were too hard. It either needed to be boiled longer or possibly needed thinner pasta. The filling was really good. This wasn't a kill for me because the ravioli was so huge, i was able to take the corners off and the middle was a big round pillow of deliciousness. My husband ordered the carbonara pasta dish. He did not like it. They used what tasted like smoked ham hocks instead of bacon or prosciutto. The smoke flavor was very overwhelming even when you didnt eat a piece of the meat. There were so many pieces of smoked meat, it was too much. We also ordered appetizers. We had the fried calamari and artichokes. It was really good and seasoned perfectly. I have also ordered that appetizer for take out and it's exactly the same. So its nice to know that the food is consistent from take out to dine in quality. We also ordered one of the appetizers that were on the specials menu. It was mussels in a garlic tequila sauce. Soooo good. I would have that again. The last thing we had was the limoncello cake. I would of never ordered it SO i am beyond happy that George recommended it. The service with the food was above and beyond. Dishes came out in a timely fashion. Everything was HOT when it was out. Since my husband wasn't too happy about his dish, the waiter accommodation it immediately. He was understanding and very sweet about it. I have ordered take out from here multiple times. I can't even tell you how many times but between my husband and i, maybe 10+ times. We normally order the same exact things. My husband gets the spaghetti bologese all of the time. He loves it. I also find it to be really good. I usually order penne a la vodka with or without shrimp. We also usually get the fried calamari and artichokes, a favorite of ours. I have also ordered the squash ravioli which is sooooo good. I recommend it. Its sweet and buttery and savory all at the same time. The hints of sage are amazing. I've ordered that about 3x's and each time it was amazing. I have also gotten the grilled octopus which is good. Its mixed with onions and peppers and seasoned with oil and vinegar. Not sure what happened tonight. Been here several times and food was always good - solid Italian fare. Tonight was a disaster. First - they are not doing indoor seating because that would require they check all guests for proof of vaccination, which the waiter said they didn't want to do, so everyone had to sit in their back patio, which in October without heaters, was quite chilly, but they didn't say anything when we made a reservation. that might have changed our decision. second, the lasagna was nearly inedible. It was burnt on 2 sides (Like black burnt), dry, and had hardly any pasta Layers - just tons of cheese. third, our waiter took our order and then forgot to input our appetizers (?!?! How does that even happen?!). 45 min after ordering when I asked if our appetizers would be coming out soon, he sheepishly admitted he forgot to put them in, and hardly offered an apology. Terrible pizza. We were told to be patient cause it takes 15 minutes to make a pizza, cause it's made from scratch. We didn't mind waiting. The pizza came on a premade crust, which was very doughy, very thick and under cooked. For roughly $18 an individual pizza it was awful. A supermarket pizza had more flavor. We were terribly disappointed. We told them when we were leaving and they nodded their heads and said thanks for telling them. I have to say the service was exception. Service was outstanding, we were served by at least five different people all very nice and helpful. The food was excellent with a remarkable variety. Our Waiter, George i believe was terrrific and they had special of a stuffed veal rollade , serverd with a meatball and home made cavetelli. Sinply delicious, served with their own home made bread and red sauce. We then had their homemade lemon cake , extrementy light and tastefull. My husband and I went to pick up delivery from Gerbasi as we were unsure if there would be enough seating in the restaurant. When he picked up the food he asked if we would be able to sit in if he found parking so we could order drinks with our food. The waiter stated, "No, you should go to this place (points at other restaurant) that good for drinks & dessert." Meanwhile, there was a full shelf bar in the back along with one family dining in. Plenty of space. When we got home, we unpacked our food (pasta) and burrata. The pasta was dry and the burrata did not taste fresh. We ate a few bites and threw the burrata-rotta in the Gerbasi. Gerbasi's is a great place to have a delicious meal with friends, family or your partner. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Our waiter George was a delight and very attentive despite having to also attend tk a larger private party in the back.(which, by the way. Is a very nice eating area on those summer days/nights). He came to our table and we had great a conversation...and he wasn't overbearing or annoying. The chef is great and has a great memory(he remembered us from the first time we went there and even where we sat and ordered..and that was 6 months ago!!) Having heard so much about Arthur Ave and we were in the area, we parked the car and strolled up and down the four blocks on this street. When we passed this restaurant, there was a man inviting us in and we said we may come back, which we did. Considering it was actually late afternoon on Saturday, this place had quite a few occupied tables. Very good customer service.
