He took the time to explain each step of the exam and regularly checked in to see if I had any questions. Can't recommend him enough. They have a wide selection of frames at varying price points, and the opticians/sales staff were equally friendly and helpful without being pushy. The main area has plenty to browse while waiting for your exam. My only real drawback was the pricing compared to similar glasses I've purchased elsewhere. Even with insurance, the lenses and frames were pretty expensive, depending on the combinations you select but it is nice to support an independent local business vs a large optical chain.

So, when a friend of mine recommended I go to Dr. Mascioli for an eye exam and contacts, I was skeptical. However, I had no reason to fear. Dr. Mascioli has been practicing for over 31 years. It pains me to write this review- because I understand what a bad review can do to a small…read morebusiness. But this was my experience and the truth of it. My review is not meant to deter anyone from going here, but to inform so that people can be prepared and aware. The first issue was with scheduling. I made my appointment through the website Zoc Doc. At around 11:45 AM- I chose a 1:45 PM slot for the same day. All the slots were available, so I figured this place wasn't too busy. A few minutes after making the appointment, I got a call from a very nice lady there. She asked if I could come at another time because the doctor "goes out" from 1-3 PM and he won't be there. Due to the timing of transportation and other errands I had to do- we agreed to change the appointment to 1 PM. I hustled out of my house and made it there at 12:45 PM. When I arrived- the same nice lady said "Oh good, he was just about to leave." ... I'm sorry what? He would leave when a patient is still on their way? And I made it there early! I chalked it up to making a same day appointment. However- they really need to block out what times are unavailable on the Zoc Doc website. Both the nice counter lady and doctor made comments on my eye color, asking if they were real and complimenting them. Now don't get me wrong- compliments are great- but you don't expect it from a doctor/nurse. It's like going in and being told your arms or spleen is beautiful. Although appreciated, it made me uncomfortable. Settings matter- a compliment like that in say, a makeup store- wouldn't faze me. But it did here. I wear contacts- and when I told the doctor I was a customer of Hubble- he then spent the entire exam ranting about how Hubble is bad, how they make cheap lenses, and so on and so on. I wouldn't have minded if this rant lasted a few minutes. It's his professional opinion which I respect. But the entire exam I was made to feel like I was making the worst decision of my life. The equipment used is severely outdated. The first part of the exam where you look at a hot air balloon and they blow air in your eye was standard. The second part of the exam where you read off letters has not been updated since the 90s- maybe even older. I was asked to read letters off a sheet (made of plastic or paper) on an opposite wall. Because this sheet is printed and is not digital- the letters don't change. Changing letters help me really think about what I can or can't see well. I found myself repeating what I knew was there, based on reading it the first time. In addition, the back rooms where this exam took place was not well lit- which added to my uneasy feeling. I found the exam to be quick. Good? Maybe. I'm sure he was in a rush because of the aforementioned scheduling issue. I got no information about my eyes and whether my prescription changed because he was literally still ranting about Hubble. He gave me a trial pack of contacts by Acuvue which I was very grateful for. I noticed one box was opened already with a contact missing- but I figured beggars can't be choosers- so I accepted it. After a week of using the lenses, I noticed my eyes were burning. I thought it was lack of sleep. Fixed that, still burned. So on the 6th day I finally thought to look at the expiration dates. No, the opened one was not expired- but the other box was by 2 years!! I called the store to let them know they might have more expired stock on their hands. I was told to stop using the expired contacts and to go back to them (the store) when I was ready to order. They did apologize once, but that was it. No offer of a new trial box. Nothing. Granted I had already decided to not go back there- but it didn't seem like a big deal to them. I would have given 1 star based on my experiences, but the glasses I ordered from them I love and were made really fast. I think they were ready by the next day. Old fashioned is the best words I can use to describe this place- in both mindset and equipment.

They get 4 stars for customer service. I walked in to get glasses and an exam for my daughter. It was busy, but the manager addressed me quickly and scheduled an appointment. On the appointment date, we had to wait maybe 20 minutes, but it was 5 or 5:30 on a weekday, a peak time. The doctor was super friendly and helpful for my daughter. He gets 5 stars. I actually l love this guy and wish I needed glasses so I could see him more. Super nice. Glasses get 5 stars. They had a large selection and quality stuff. I ordered top of the line frames and lenses, and wasn't looking for a bargain. The glasses were expensive, but I expected that. I did not comparison shop, so I can't say whether their prices are competitive, but they were not outrageous. I was super happy with the glasses - attractive, durable, and my daughter wanted to wear them. My only complaint, and the reason I give them 4 stars is because it took a long time for the glasses to be ready, like over a week. When they didn't call for a long time, I stopped in to see if everything was OK. They called a few days later. I was not expecting glasses to take a long time, my daughter doesn't have severe vision problems and so many places these days can produce glasses in an hour.
