A wonderful and quick turnaround for a frame on a piece that although inexpensive, was very meaningful to me and intended to hang right at the entrance of my condo. Came out even better than I imagined. read more

So happy I found Frames on 3rd. Rob and Luis made something out of nothing and stayed within my budget to say the least! What I asked for was being quoted at 4x times the price at any other shop, most frame places actually decline jerseys because of the meticulous work it deems. I purchased a University of Illinois frame MOUNT on accident and it came with this huge ugly tv backing on it. If we did what the instructions said it would have came out tacky. Rob and Luis took the plexiglass that said "Illinois" (which was most important) off the mount and created something so perfect and sentimental to this gift for my boyfriend. The stitching was so clean and aligned perfect. 10/10!! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. We had a wooden board with calligraphy on it from our wedding last year that we wanted framed. John helped us with it, and we could not be any happier with the end result. When we walked in without an appointment or phone call in advance on a Saturday afternoon, John helped us right away by pulling sample frames and mats off the walls for us. He listened to our vague requirements, gave us recommendations on how to match the frame color, and stood by patiently while we debated every which combination. I was nervous leaving such a sentimental piece with him, but it turned out fantastic. We were told that it would take a week to complete the custom framing. John completed the work in 4 days. Under promise, over deliver -- check! We love the look of our piece and can't wait to get it hung up. I would highly recommend Frames on 3rd for any custom framing needs and will definitely return in the future. read more

For several years we have engaged Frames on 3rd to frame our artwork. Robb has a great eye for color and suggestions with framing artwork whether it is "real" art, or a fun magazine cover for our den. His work is top notch and pricing is reasonable. We highly recommend Frames On 3rd! Thank you, Robb! read more

Just wanted to update this. I took a painting in to be framed last week. Earlier in the day, I had been to Michael's, the arts and crafts chain store, for an estimate on framing that same painting. With some moderate help from Michael's, I picked out a frame I liked -- and they priced it at $270 including tax (23x35" painting). But, I like Frames on 3rd, and I definitely try to purchase local before going to a chain. So I went back to Frames on 3rd. For starters, they had much better cheap options than Michael's. But I wasn't only concerned about price -- I wanted a great frame. So the staff spent 15-20 minutes walking me through different options and throwing out suggestions. Much better than Michael's. Finally, we picked the perfect frame, and it came out to $300, including tax. For a 10 percent premium, I got to support local business and get a much higher quality product and better service. read more

This has to be the best frame shop in the city! I been coming here for a few years now after getting an extrondinary high quote at another shop for a large piece of art work. They do an amazing job, fast and cost effectively. And they are full of great tips on how to make the work out stand out to its best. Additionally, they are incredibly awesome and gave me awesome tips for what to check out in the neighborhood :o) read more

I've been a customer of "Frames on 3rd" for going on 6 years now. Rob and his partner are Awesome with a capital "A". Great work every time. Quality and attention to detail are top priorities when it comes to custom framing. If you have an heirloom, archival, cherished, invaluable, any 2D work you care about getting framed, do not hesitate using this great framing shop. In this world, you get what you pay for and if you value what's behind that UV Plex, then Frames on 3rd delivers consistently. A small San Francisco business that's run and done right. Big thumbs up. :-D read more

Frames on 3rd Rocks. I had my YSL poster from the de Young exhibit framed here and I found the perfect frame within moments of walking into the shop. The guy who helped me out was friendly and gave me a price breakdown so I knew exactly how much my framing options cost. I got my framed poster back promptly and I have a feeling it's going to be around for a long time! read more

I had a gorgeous print made for my man's Birthday last year. I had been stashing until the right moment. I am lucky to live right around the corner from this GEM! Rob did a fabulous job framing the work, and got it done WAY QUICKER then what he told me... I think almost a week early! Quite well priced. Go for it. read more

Great, very efficient business. Very happy to receive a quote over the phone that was accurate and honored. The piece I brought in was probably a bit annoying to work with because it has mirrored 2" gallery wrap borders, but nothing extra beyond those 2 inches for wrapping -- what a pain! But they totally nailed lining the edges up just right on the frame. Cheaper than the few other places I checked, and bonus points for being so close to home. Would happily recommend this place to any friend needing art framed/stretched. I will definitely come back. read more

I always figured I couldn't call myself a real adult until I had my first custom-framed piece of art. Needless to say, I had no idea what I was doing. With Robb's help, patience and expertise I landed on the perfect frame/mat/glass combo. Today, at long last, I'm a real man. read more

I feel welcomed once I walked into the store. John was very enthusiastic and took his time to help me with the mat and frame selection. He even gave me a first time discount without me asking. The custom framing is reasonably priced and looks great! Thank you! read more

They have done numerous frame jobs for pieces featured in an annual charity auction we do and they are a pleasure to work with every year. Completely professional and the art always looks great. In fact, I totally trust their judgement over mine with respect to what looks good and doesn't - they just have a knack for it. They're also great guys. Definitely worth your dime! read more

It's possible that one of these four stars comes from the fact that this place is within spitting distance of my apartment. Another star might come from the fact that I feel like a real live grown up now that I've actually got posters _in frames_ that one day or another I'll hang up in my apartment. The other stars are for the massive selection of frame options and the extremely kind and friendly frame dudes. I can't give Frames on 3rd a full five stars because the prices seemed really steep. Next time I'll call before I go to get an estimate and attempt to drive a hard(er) bargain. read more

Excellent, friendly service. I brought in an already-framed photograph, which I wanted to swap out the frame on. When Rob measured the frame he pointed out that it's a standard size, and I could probably get a ready-made frame somewhere else that would be less expensive than his custom frame. I appreciated his effort to save me some money, but I was totally happy to pay for the custom work and get exactly what I wanted--and I'm so glad I did, the frame looks terrific. Extensive selection of frames, and helpful professionals. read more

I've had at least 20 pieces of art framed here, and I have been extremely happy with each piece. I just drop off my art and let them do their thing (pick the frame, setting, etc.). I have been working with Rob for years taking care of their lighting and when I finally had a framing need, I brought it in. Rob was fantastic. Very patient, he made great suggestions (wow are there a bunch of choices) and when something didn't quite work out he make an exuctive decision that really made the piece pop. Very easy to work with and much more reasonable than just about any frame shop I have been to for what you get. I will return. read more

Provided helpful advice without any noticeable "upsell." They did what I wanted them to do, at a price that was reasonable (within the inexplicably expensive world of framing). I think the best praise one can give is "will do business again," and I will. read more

I've had three fabrics framed here. End results are beautiful, price is very reasonable and the timelines to complete the work are fairly fast. However, the service I have received has been somewhat questionable, and they apparently simply cannot get the completed work protected for transportation. I have cleaned up smudges from the fabrics now twice. This last time I specifically asked to have the fabric protected, and I was promised it will take place. It didn't. When I called about it, I was told that I must have spoken with another person, this person did not know about it, he is sorry and have a good day. I plan to frame another fabric and apparently need to look into other providers to do it for me, since something this obvious doesn't get done the right way. read more

How often is there a Yelp average of 5 stars for any business? This one deserves it! We've been going here for a couple of years, since our old shop on Valencia jacked up the prices. Rob is so cool it's hard to believe! We always just bring the art and ask him for his suggestions. He's never steered us wrong, and has a real flair for the work. Prices are way less than other shops we've tried, very fair and all work beautifully done. Thanks! read more

I'm not a big review writer on Yelp, but these guys warranted at least a review. I just bought a house and acquired some art work that was worthy of spending some money on to frame correctly. Frames on 3rd did FANTASTIC work. When they opened up the butcher paper to show me what they had done, "wow" was all I could say. Framing and presentation was fantastic, quality work. And it was across a variety of formats and presentations-- not just sticking a photo in a frame. And good turn around time as well. I cannot praise their workmanship enough. Incredibly happy with what they did and I would go back again and would recommend them to anyone looking to get something framed and framed right. Especially in the City, even outside of the City. read more

Very friendly and excellent workmanship. Parking is tough, but otherwise highly recommended.

Nice job, at the lowest price I could find. There's a personal element to this business, by Rob. Good local business.

So, I haven't had any work done here, yet but I will be going to them in the future. I called because I have a project with a quick turnaround time, Rob was very polite but told me they could not meet my 24hr turn around time. He then proceeded to give me names of the all the stores near us that could. Great customer service when he knew he would not be benefiting. I will for sure use them for my future framing needs. read more
