My husband and I bought a house and it was the perfect time to reframe our Ketubah and another fine art piece. The frames that they came in were quite bad, so now ay was I going to hang them up on our walls as we decorate. Originally we went somewhere else, but it took them 3 weeks to figure out a frame we wanted was out of stock and they just didn't seem that professional or knowledgeable in what they suggested, so we went here instead. I spent plenty of time on Fillmore street and came in before to buy some picture frames and liked the store, it had a great selection of a wide range of frames and they handle real art, so fear not if you have expensive paintings they will be handled with care. So we brought both pieces in and spent about an hour figuring out the frames. The owner was there and spent time helping us and giving great suggestions but not pushing anything we didn't need. The other place tried to get us to buy museum glass which is really pricey and not necessary, she told us flat out it's not going to make a difference for us since there is not direct sun or glare on the piece. The selection was great, lots of wood frames, lots of textures and styles for everyone and definitely quality and elegance in everything. We love love love our finished products, it's like we have new art in the house! While the price was slightly higher than the first place we went, it's well worth it for your nice art pieces and things that make a statement. read more

Nicholas, you are awesome!! This review is long overdue. Nicholas, his wife and team are amazing. Their customer service is impeccable! Last month my company (SF based) tasked me with a last minute framing project for our Board of Directors. The project was pretty straight forward BUT I do not reside in CA. I had a link to a picture that needed to be printed on high quality paper before it could be framed. Nicholas stated he did not print but referred me to a printing company located a couple of blocks from his business. He personally offered to pick up the prints (WHO DOES THAT). I was under a tight timeline. He worked his professional magic and completed the project in a week! Another over and beyond favor he did for me is he packed one picture and took it to Federal Express to be shipped to NYC. He was sensitive to my desperateness and assured me I had nothing to worry about. He is professional and one of the kindest people I've never met. :-) read more

Wow, I'm really surprised about the other review. I had a really good experience here. I generally only review food, but I'm making this one exception. They just delivered my piece to me for free and it's 4 days early, I'm blown away! I hadn't had very many things professionaly framed in the past so I wasn't sure what the process was like. The person that worked with me was helpful in offering suggestions and I learned more than I ever cared to know about "conservation" framing. I wasn't sure how much it would cost and it isn't cheap, but nice things rarely are. I think i've picked up another expensive habit. damn. read more

If you have art you need to get educated about how to handle it and how to keep it/frame it. A simple visit to Walter Adams did that for me. Thank goodness for Nicholas! We have just moved from Atlanta to SF. The job I asked him to do was complex. We have an extensive art collection. Big pieces. Small pieces. High walls. I had been Helping raise money for the Washington Lakewood Police Dept Fallen 4 families in 2009 and 2010. I also had a Law enforcement Memorial license plate that said LPD-4 . It was my plate for my motorcycle which I used to honor the Four fallen Officers 11-29-2009. One year ago I decided the plate should go to the Dept. So not being a very creative person the somehow present my plate to the Chief this year 11-29-2012. I was introduced to Walter Adams Framing. It was amazing what they did with my simple little plate, gorgouse matting, a plaque custom done with the officers names on it and a beautiful frame. Came to find out the company owners wanted to do thier part for the Lakewood Police Dept and they graciously did it as a donation to the Dept. I cannot say enough to that, it is so proffessionally done and they went all out. I understand thier framers are long time pros and they have a man that makes each frame for them, wow! I had a fantastic experience with this business. I spoke to Nicholas when I called, who was very helpful in giving me an estimate and quote. He knew I needed help as soon as possible, so he made an appointment for Memorial Day! On top of that, he came right on time and was great to work with. He's respectful of your home and goes about doing his work efficiently/swiftly, stress-free and great attitude. I wanted his expert opinion, but he'd always ask me first and work with me to find a spot (he worked on a collage,) so that I liked it too. He prorated the bill since it didn't take as long as I anticipated, which I thought was kind and unusual now a days. He hung 21 paintings in 75 minutes! I anticipate another round of art hangings and would call him first! This is something that would've taken me 3x as long, with a lot of frustration--he made everything seem so effortless and easy! read more

I have been pleased with the service from the moment I walked in to the shop. Nicholas was friendly and helpful, and we had a good long chat. I got the pictures today, delivered by Nicholas himself (and he gave me a lift back to the shop so I could settle the bill). I am very very happy with them. I had six photos I have taken in various parts of the world printed poster-sized (from Snapfish) framed with a smart black frame, and a smaller photo in a different frame, and they are all immaculately done. My summary statement: bargain basement quality for boutique prices. This place chaps my ass for so many reasons. Let me elaborate and hopefully save you a similar fate: I took a 16x20 B&W photo in for framing 2 months ago. My initial impression of the customer service was quite good. The owner of the shop was professional, patient and very helpful in helping me pick out a frame that I really liked. I choked down the $345 bill (3x the value of the actual photograph) and chalked it up to a "nice splurge." My photo was going to look really, really great once it was professionally framed, right? Three weeks later, I excitedly hurry in to pick up my framed photo and my jaw drops upon seeing it. No, not because it looked so breathtakingly beautiful in its $345 frame but because the frame color is many shades darker than what I had picked out!!! I chose a nice espresso walnut stained wood and the frame on my photo looks BLACK!! If I wanted black, I would've chosen black. The clerk (someone else than who had originally helped me) looks at me blankly and can't seem to understand why I'm unhappy. I hmmmm and hahhhhh and finally decide that at least I'll take the damn thing home and put it up on the wall to give it a fair shake. Perhaps it'll look lighter in my sun-flooded living room. I throw the thing under my arm and schlep it home 5 blocks, put it up on the wall and.......sweet Jesus! There sitting smack dab in the middle of the beautiful deep black sky of my photo is a piece of glass glinting back at me. So now I'm REALLY pissed, throw the thing back under my arm and storm back up to Fillmore Street. The clueless clerk apologizes half-heartedly and tells me she can "put a rush on it" and get it back to me in 3 days. This doesn't even take into account the fact that frame is the wrong color. One would think that for $345, this place could get it right. Nope. Guess again. So, I go and talk to the owner a few days later. The glass has been removed and he offers to send it back to the mysterious off-site warehouse to have it reframed with wood that actually matches the sample I had picked out. Fine. What's another 3 weeks? They call me 3 weeks later, but not a single thing has been done to my photo. They simply want me to come into the shop to verify that the frame sample "looks okay" before they send it back out. Why couldn't they have done this 3 weeks ago? I go in and the sample looks identical to the wood that is already on my photo---too dark!!! What's the point in sending it back if it'll look exactly the same? As I'm holding on to the frame to make sure that there are no more shards of glass wedged underneath the glass, I notice that the photo and mat now seem to shift around within the frame and there's this huge gap between the mat and the photo. The clerk (a third person now) dismisses my concern and snootily tells me, "There's supposed to be extra space within the frame. The photo shouldn't be flush against the mat." Huhhh???? My next move: seeking a full refund for this incredibly shoddy job. How can these people charge an arm and a leg for such crappy, unprofessional work?! Save yourself the hassle and the $$$ and go to Cheap Pete's. I wish I had. read more

Walter Adams Framing came to my rescue when I was looking at a 50 pound framed mirror and trying to figure out how I was going to get it hung up on the wall. Fortunately I saved myself hours of time and potential medical bills by calling Nicolas, who came over same-day and at an after-hours time to hang it for me. We wanted a mirror for the top of our fireplace. I took the dimensions of the area to the store and talked to them. The place where we wanted to install the mirror was recessed. They listened carefully to what we wanted and offered a few frame options based on our taste and budget requirements. We selected the frame and they gave us a price. What impressed us the most was that they really paid attention to the space where the mirror was going to be positioned. Fortunately they identified an issue with the installation and they came up with a simple solution. Had they not seen this we would have been for a big bad surprise after the finished project. We were very happy with the overall job and the interaction. It was done on time and the mirror looked beautiful after we installed it. read more

2 hours after the Nicholas put the painting on the the wall, IT FELL OFF MY WALL. The $1700 frame was damaged, the frame left marks on the wall, AND there was a hole left in my wall. I don't get how a professional picture hanger could make a mistake this badly. Go some where else. read more

My significant other and I went into this store today to get several pictures reframed. The woman assisting us was clearly uncomfortable that we had our 2 kids with us, and she spent very little time discussing the matting and frames we wanted. After becoming very concerned as to where one child was (she was with my husband in the bathroom that the salesperson directed them to) and commenting that she was afraid a drawer would somehow fly out and hit my other child on the head (who was simply sitting on a stool in front of the drawer), we picked up our stuff and walked out. On top of that, their prices were quite a bit higher than other places we checked. I like to support local businesses, but I expect service that at a minimum isn't rude. read more

Three years after hiring Nicolas to hang pictures (see previous review), I moved and needed him again. As before, he was prompt and worked efficiently while maintaining the highest quality. His experience and artistic eye made him quick to see how paintings should be grouped and where they should be placed in a room. He uses a technique so that not only are the pictures perfectly straight, but they do not budge if you dust them.
