I wasn't able to find my favorite Japanese sketch book by Trystrams at Maido Japantown. Maido did not have a restock date. The notebook is thin, Japanese paper quality amazing and I genuinely cannot find a substitute for this one. Topdrawer, all Japanese merchandise supplier notified me they only carry their proprietary brand. The sales rep however did recommend The Wishing Well workshop. I arrived, the owner looked for the notebook and realized they were sold out. He immediately placed an order and took my contact info to notify me once the order arrives. I can't recommend this place enough, so happy I found it! read more

My friends recommended this store to add a logo to my clothing. I'm a locksmith by profession, and I needed clothing with my logo and advertisement. I'm very happy with the result--they provided me with two T-shirts and caps, quickly helped me with the design, and got the job done. Now I'm a stylish locksmith :) By the way, there was a really cute dog in the store, and we became friends. This was an exceptional experience with even better service. I cannot thank you enough! Jake was so responsive and accommodating! My partner and I made very very last minute plans to fly cross country to attend the Eras concert. First thing I do the next day, is call up Wishing Well Workshop to get matching shirts for the concert. Within minutes, we had picked out the colors and designs for the shirts (I had done some quick Google search to find what would be the best for the shirts), and Jake executed this perfectly. This was Monday, by Thursday early afternoon, I was picking up the shirts for the concert Saturday (we left Friday). All to say is that attending this concert wouldn't be complete without the shirts and Jake / Wishing Well helped make this dream come true. Thank you! Next time I need a shirt made (or any print job), this is hands down my first and only stop!! UPDATE: went to the concert with matching shirts. They were an absolute hit. The Inner Richmond part of Clement St. lacked any sort of hobby shop that offers unique and high quality art supplies, but now with the Wishing Well Workshop, there's a spot to quickly and easily get whatever you need! Also, the Wishing Well offers really cool screen-print designs on all sorts of things! The owner makes super cool designs revolving around the neighborhood, SF and California as a whole, as well as SF sports teams! You can pick up an awesome sweatshirt, or tshirt that make great gifts (I've already gifted a few things from here with great feedback). This shop is just so quaint and adorable! It's a gem in the local neighborhood, and while they don't have an extensive stationery / pens/brushes collection, you'll find your above standard supplies here. The staff is also so lovely and passionate! They're always really eager to have conversations & answer any questions. The Wishing Well also does screen printing and DTG printing for a more affordable price point (& in smaller batches) if that's something of interest. read more

Ugh I wish I found out about this place sooner but at least I did just in time to make an amazing shirt for my boyfriend's birthday!:) - The store itself carries an array of nice art supplies from paper, notebooks, pens, pencils and brushes. ----- [ The inquiry ] ----- - I went on their website and shot them a email regarding my inquiry on what I wanted to do. Though I ended up calling and speaking with Jake about my request afterwards. Then I sent him my artwork and came in the day after! - Jake was amazing!! He gave me options for my art and worked with me on what I wanted. After discussing, he said it would be about 15 minutes so I left and came back and it was done! - IT LOOKED SO GOOD!! I've never had any of my art screen printed so seeing it on a thing was so cool!! - I got one large black shirt and it was $42.32! ---------- Would I come back again? HELL YES! When one finds a treasure like Wishing Well Workshop, you have two choices: keep it a secret so that only you have the intel on such a well-run, responsive, good-vibes resource that delivers creative excellence --OR-- shout it loud and proud on yelp so that others can take advantage of such a jewel of a shop. I chose the latter... which is all the more remarkable since I have, like, no time. They are just so good, I'm making the time. TWICE now, I have proposed impossible, 'Hail Mary'-like projects with unreasonable deadlines and TWICE they have come through with amazing quality shirts and tote bags and extraordinary good cheer. I am so grateful for Jake and his team... it was their good game and "we got this" attitude that makes writing this review a pleasure. I always love supporting small businesses. I walk by this little store every week and it always makes me happy to see small business art stores like this still alive. I recently had some digital art that I needed printed and figured it would be better to try here than at a big chain office supply store. I am so glad I did because the service was amazing. Jake was so helpful in converting my RGB PNG into CMYK formatting and it was ready by the next day. The quality was great and the price was affordable. I flew into town for a spur-of-the-moment video shoot and needed three very random T-shirts printed up with virtually no advance notice. Wishing Well not only accommodated the request, but dealt with several frantic phone calls from me trying to coordinate everything in time for the shoot. So places like this really warm my heart because it's really hard for artists to thrive in a city like SF and the Wishing Well seems to be thriving due to their amazing customer service and because of the owner (Jake)'s passion. In addition, it also carries 3D / 2D stickers, classic Japanese art prints, noshi envelopes, handcrafted pressed-flower cards, adult anime T-shirts, coloring / origami books, socks, stationery, fabrics for furoshiki, etc. There is also a sign stating "Beware of the Dog" with Moira (a 2-year old Irish Wolfhound) hanging out at the store. [Conclusion]: I am not sure if this shop is worth driving out of the way just to check it out unless you are a passionate origami enthusiast, but it is worth stopping by if you are already in San Francisco's Japantown. P.S. - Paper Tree used to have a sister store in Berkeley called Miki's Paper which focused on paper gallery and Japanese papers, but the shop closed after COVID.

I have not seen any changes to my web site at all. Since then, I have not been able to get a commitment from Jason or his team. Jason has sent me messages saying he was out of town, medical emergencies, etc which I can totally understand and was willing to wait for him. I had called his office and Tom had responded to look into it, but I have now been ignored by Tom as well. As of 2/1/2024 (one year later!!), I have sent an email to Jason and Tom to just close the project. They can refund me some portion of my 100% paid job, but they have not responded. I have changed the password to my web hosting as a precaution. I am willing to call this a loss and mark it as a lesson learned working with design companies. The water colors are special they have really good opacity and sit well on top of the paper. They might not have as nice of translucency as other brands. However they are really expensive and there are other products that are available for cheaper and comparable quality on the market. However, the staff can be aloof and rude within the store. The teachers are generally sweet and supportive and classes are affordable. After multiple positive class experiences, I had inquired about teaching as I have been doing art for a while and really wanted to give back to my community and share what I know I'm good at. The application to get involved process was odd, they were slow to respond, but also rude and unprofessional. It upfront on their goals and processes. I was not notified that there was a already an established class nearly identical to my proposal prior to filling out a lengthy application. I was also told they didn't want to move forward because I lacked an established creative arts background (while not inquiring directly about a CV), which was later amended to they were unable to move forward due to scheduling and volume of inquiries (while only offering 3 in person classes that month instead of the standard dozen). I have no issue with being rejected, it's all about fit anyways, but was saddened to have my creative experience being belittled and the lack of professionalism. It was just a very odd and condescending experience that I would not want any artist that puts their heart and soul into a proposal to have to experience.
